Filled with warmth and charm, this house is a home away from home in Provence

The Olive Garden is a “home away from home” in Provence. Comfortably accommodating 10 people, the house is full of charm and intimate spaces. Located in the foothills of the famous Mont Ventoux, it sits nestled at the end of an Impasse between the picturesque local village of Caromb and outstanding National Forest.

A large wooden door opens up into the enclosed garden and terraced area, with vines that cascade over a pergola and a host of olive trees, from which the house derives its name.

A side entrance door leads into the kitchen where windows create a 4th wall framing the garden beautifully, bringing light and a sense of the outdoors into the interior. This theme of light opening up into the house from the outside sits within all the rooms at The Olive Garden, with french doors and intimate terraces and balconies giving the house its magical quality.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a large gas range oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and of course, a coffee machine! Within the same open space is a dining table seating 10 people, enabling everyone to socialize together along side the chef.

The lounge leads off the kitchen with 3 sets of french doors leading out to the pool area and onto a secluded balcony terrace, strewn with roses and vines; an intimate setting for aperitifs or morning coffee. There is a beautiful wood burner in the fireplace for winter visits to Provence, very warm and cosy and atmospheric.

On the ground floor there is a double bedroom with large queen (140x 160cm) bed and french doors leading out to the pool area.

This bedroom has an en suite bathroom with walk in tiled shower, wash basin and w.c.

There is another ground floor double bedroom with king size (140x180cm) bed and double doors leading out into the main garden.

The central hallway houses an additional bathroom with walk in tiled shower, wash basin and w.c.

Upstairs is a bedroom with large queen (140x160cm) bed and beautiful Romeo and Juliet balcony overlooking the garden below. Anther intimate space to share and enjoy.

There are a further 2 bedrooms upstairs, one twin and one double and a family bathroom with a bath, W.C. and wash basin.

The pool area leads directly off the main lounge for easy access. It has pool lights to create an atmospheric effect at night. There is a BBQ area and abri for shade along with a fridge for storing additional drinks. There are several sun loungers with cushions and chairs and tables for eating alfresco.

A few steps down from the walled in pool area is the garden, fully enclosed and hosting a variety of fruit trees and olive trees. It is very safe and picturesque with another large eating terrace and BBQ.

The village of Caromb is a pleasant 10 minute walk down a quiet residential road. It is old and full of character, a medieval french town, with a central church and a winding labrynth of cobbled streets, archways and staircases to keep you guessing where the various bakeries are hidden. There is a fresh food market on a Tuesday, a variety of cafes and restaurants including a newly opened haute cuisine restaurant and trendy wine bar!

Caromb is one of a handful of beautiful hilltop villages that lie in the foothills of Mont Ventoux. It is an exquisite area of Provence, filled with character and charm. There are many walks that lead straight from the house into National Forest and the larger towns of Carpentras and Avignon are within easy reach.

About The Owner

Peter and Audrey bought The Olive Garden in 2005 as a business from their friends, Maddy and Richard Ford. The house already had the magic "Maddie touch" when we took it on, with beautiful limestone floors and large window doors to the outside. The house is very special owing to its incredible location and sense of light and space, creating intimate spaces and a warmth of character. We fell in love with it and have allowed other people to do the same from renting it out over many years, until finally deciding to live there ourselves between 2013 and 2016. In experiencing the house first hand we have spotted where its strengths and weaknesses lie, and now we have decided to move back to our original home in Provence, at The Apple Orchard in Le Thor, we have the perfect opportunity of making The Olive Garden a stunning rental property.

Why The Owner chose Caromb

Location, location, location is key and The Olive Garden shines above many other properties in this department. Backing on to National Forest, the house is nestled amongst stunning scenery with the back drop of the Ventoux right on its doorstep. Yet at the same time it is within easy walking distance of the local village of Caromb with all its exquisite foodie shops and amenities, cafe's and restaurants. Caromb is a very serviceable town, offering everything you need, including one of the best butcher's in the area and a trendy haute cuisine restaurant and wine bar!

What makes this house unique

Location again is superb for setting off on a road or mountain bike to experience the Ventoux or any numerous roads in one of the best cycling areas in the world. The Olive Garden is a Spoke Venue which means it caters perfectly for cyclists looking to rent bikes, receive guided tours or any number of bike related services. We just stayed at the Olive Garden for a week. We came to the area to bike ride and take in the sites. As soon as we entered the court yard, we knew we were somewhere special. The garden, stone work and glass were all beautiful. Each room was a beautiful vignette. We sat each night on the patio watching the sun set and play on the mountains with the sound of the breeze in the trees. It was truly a magical get-away. The house was very well appointed and located close enough to town to get whatever we needed but lovely and quiet at night. I would highly recommending coming with a group of friends or a couple of families with kids.

Lovely provencal property on the edge of a village

A lovely property on the edge of Caromb which provides a great base to explore the villages around the base of Mt Ventoux and Carpentras. The house is a 10 minute walk to the centre of the village which has two boulangeries and a handful of bars and restaurants. It has great character and the owners have managed to balance a well equipped property with modern facilities but which plenty of character with two wood burning stoves and lovely stone floors. A perfect property for two or three families especially as the pool area will keep the children entertained for hours. The owners could not have been more helpful in welcoming us and giving us hints and tips for what to do in the surrounding area.

Very nice property with perfect location

“It is indeed a long time ago, May 2008, I stayed at the Olive Garden for two weeks with friends and family but still today everybody who came around remembers it with joy. The property itself was well maintained with many bed-rooms, large well-equipped kitchen, nice garden to enjoy meals. We spent many lazy hours around the swimming pool and also used the barbeque. The owners of the property were nice and accommodating. It was located at convenient walking distance from Caromb where we could buy anything we needed. We did some very nice walks to for instance Crillon le brave. Generally we found the area very good for walking. Having a car is of course a must to enjoy all that is to be seen in Provence. So all-in-all, all of us would be happy to come back to the Olive Garden one day.”
