Casa Tomise was built in 2013, constructed in the Andalucian style of architecture but with a modern twist encompassing large panoramic windows and high ceilings providing bright spacious living accommodation. It is our home for six months of the year and has therefore been stylishly designed around both comfortable and practical living areas.

The land extends down to the shore-line 100 metres below, and the only sounds you can hear are those of the waves, birds and the cicadas of an evening – an unbeatable location in which to relax and unwind. The views are outstanding: the Mediterranean Sea, the town of Salobrena with the mountains as a back-drop and an extensive coast-line.

A 20 minute walk along the coastal path will bring you to the small fishing pueblo of La Caleta with its beach, local shop and three bars/restaurants; or 5 minutes in the car will take you into the heart of Salobrena with many more shops, tapas bars and beaches. A little further afield are the towns of Almunecar and Motril (10 minutes in the car) or Nerja (20 minutes) with some excellent restaurants, markets, museums, water-parks, aquatic centres, caves and castles to explore. The Alhambra and Granada are only 50 minutes by car.

The bedrooms are all located on the first floor. Three of the four bedrooms face south and have uninterrupted views of the sea. The fourth bedroom looks out onto the small ‘zen’ courtyard below. All bedrooms have balconies and are fitted with air-conditioning (they also have fans in case you don’t like A/C and prefer to open the windows and listen to the waves). Two of the bedrooms have super-king size beds with en-suite shower rooms (the master room has a jacuzzi shower); there is another standard double and a twin-bed room and a family bathroom with a double-sink. There is on-site parking for two cars near the upper level and plenty of other parking spaces on the road.

All main rooms on the ground level open out onto the terrace, and have views of the pool and the wide expanse of blue Mediterranean Sea. There is a large open-plan living area with a sunken arched lounge giving way to two large sofas, a leather armchair, an open fire and flat-screen TV. The dining room allows seating for up to 8, has a sideboard packed full with games and a well-stocked book case. The exceptionally well equipped kitchen has a central island unit with additional sink and a wood topped breakfast bar area. Worktops are all granite and the units are made of painted oak. There is a large fridge, 4-ring gas hob, electric oven, and dish-washer. To the rear of the kitchen is a utility area with washing machine, microwave and two freezers. There is also a WC on this level.

On the upper level there is a large roof terrace and an extra fridge for entertaining.

Outside there are various alcoves and tables for eating – including a beautifully arched dining area. To the side of the house is a small ‘zen’ garden with fountain – a lovely quiet hide-away if life in the pool becomes too hectic! On the pool terrace there is a large pergola which provides much needed shade from the mid-day sun and has a comfortable corner unit. There is a gas BBQ on this level together with sunbeds and other chairs. The infinity pool is saltwater (much softer on the skin, hair and eyes), with underwater lighting system and a solar heated jacuzzi that seats 8. There is also an outside shower on this level

Bath, pool and beach towels are provided.

Please note that the infinity pool makes it unsuitable for small children under 12, however babies are welcome.

• personal shopping service (if your flight is arriving late)

• booking service for taxis, restaurants or tickets to Alhambra etc.

Casa Tomise is a great place for families or groups of friends. Whether you wish to relax by the pool, go sight-seeing, visit Granada and the white villages, or have a day on the beach – it’s possible to do everything from here. Car hire is not essential as there are local buses that run into town from the Hotel Salobrena, a 10 minute walk away, and coaches from there that connect with Granada and in both directions along the coast. However a car would make your life easier and offer you greater freedom.

About Jacqui McCann

My husband and I were lucky enough to retire early and moved to this beautiful unspoilt area of Spain in 2012 and built our dream home. We lived in our little cortijo in the mountains that we had built 10 years earlier during the construction of Casa Tomise so we had time to choose all the tiles and fitments with care. We still have a house in England we return to in between our travels.

Why Jacqui McCann chose Salobreña

We decided to buy our first property abroad back in 2002 with a view to becoming familiar with the area and learning the language before we retired there. Having searched the whole of Europe we found this lovely corner of Spain. We bought our first little fishing village house in La Caleta which we used for holidays for 10 years. Then during the winter of 2012 we saw this front-line plot for sale and just loved the location and unbeatable views. We designed the house ourselves then involved a local architect. All the constructors were local Spanish firms and did an amazing job - the house was finished on time and within budget! We have loved being here ever since.

What makes this villa unique

We love every aspect about the house. The location is second-to-none - situated directly above the shore-line with amazing views across the Mediterranean sea and the castle-topped village of Salobrena. The urbanization is very small, quiet and friendly. We can walk to La Caleta, which has a little shop and 3 bars, along the coastal path.

The house itself has large airy rooms with lots of light, but with lovely traditional Andalucian architectural tones.

Apart from the beach. there are lots of tourist attractions in the area including the caves at Nerja, para-gliding and deep-sea diving at La Herradura, Alhambra and Albaizin area in Granada.

Amazing view , nicely proportioned villa with most facilities.

Lots of games, books and DVDs. Pool was amazing. A shame the dishwasher was not unloaded on arrival and a bottle of water in the fridge ( which seemed clean but smelt of fish) would've been great after such a long journey. The kitchen could be better equipped more pans and utensils and many glasses were dirty . The bed covers were very thin throws it would be nice to have a thicker blanket. Toilet rolls were not in all the bathrooms . It would be nice to have more cleaning products and bin bags so keeping the villas clean is easier. Air conditioning overflow very annoying . These are just small points it was a lovely villa and I know I would want to improve these minor points which is why I mentioned them .

Owner's Response: Dear Zoe, Thanks for your feedback. I would like to apologise for the cleaning issues - I will address these with the cleaning team. About the dish-washer - apparently they had to do two loads and because you had agreed an early arrival date they did not have time to unload - however they should have mentioned this to you. Regarding blankets - unless the air-conditioning unit is set very low, blankets are normally not required. However, there were some heavier covers in the shelves above the wardrobes. Unfortunately the over-flow from the air-con has to go somewhere and it can be too much for a plant - but we will try and think of a better solution if we rent the property again. Regarding the water - there is cold filtered drinking water direct from the fridge door so bottled water is not necessary. Some pans and kitchen utensils actually went missing before you arrived! We shall stock up again before next year. Best wishes, Jacqui

Lovely villa in a superb location

The first thing we said on arrival was 'wow!' The villa is beautiful, fully equipped with everything you need and very spacious. The views are to die for . . . we have fallen in love with the region and will definitely be back. This is a great location to either stay and relax or explore the lovely area - either the coast (Salobrena and Almunecar being lovely local towns) or inland visiting the pueblo blancos of the Sierra Nevada.

Stunning villa

Just returned from a weeks visit to Casa Tomise.

A stunning location, with panoramic sea views, and at night a fantastic view of Salobreña castle wonderfully lit up .

A well equipped property, with everything you need, for a fantastic holiday, including wifi and British TV.

Leading up to our stay, Henry and Jacqui had been very helpful, in answering our questions about the property.

We have been to the area on several occasions, and this has been our best stay by far.

We will definitely be returning to this wonderful villa again.
