My mom purchased the original 40 acres in 1957 for $1000. Money her father had given her for college. The original cabin was built in 1971 and was beautifully decorated in the trendy avacado and organge motif of the the day.
In 2005 the home was gutted and completely rebuilt. A 400 square foot screen porch, complete with large wood burning fireplace, was also added during the remodel. A sand volleyball court and horseshoe pits were added in 2008.
Very peaceful with room to roam!
Our family has been going to this special place for the past three years and everyone agrees it will be our "Go to" place for years to come. Just a wonderful place for a family get together. First there is the privacy. Down a dead end road this property sits all by itself. The yard is well maintained with a great volley ball pit, horseshoe pits and enough area for any outside activities you can imagine. The back yard overlooks the small lake with a nice little sandy beach. The house itself is clean and well maintained with a comfortably homey feel. Then there is the screened in porch with the fireplace. Originally we thought this might be a place we would spend a little time in, maybe in the evenings. In no time it became everyone's favorite room and is used as our main meeting area. Nothing like sitting in a screened in porch, listening to the loons, hearing the crackle of the fire and playing some games with the kids. Sometimes the kids and grandkids wish there was WIFI, but the more we get used to it, the more we like getting away from all the screen time. Can't really think of anything that would make the property better.
The place was sooo much more then what I expected. I have not stayed in a rented house before but this made our trip, I did not realize how comfortable I would be.
I caught ton's of perch, seen lots of wild life including a very large snapping turtle that appeared from under the water deck, loved the paddle boat. The trip started out by finding a 5 leaf clover, wildlife abundance (from the nightly deer, to hundreds of frogs and even a bear (not on the property but on the road exiting the property) and an eagle too.
The house was well equipped with marsh mellow sticks, laundry detergent, grilling equipment with coal and lighter fluid. I had brought several fishing poles but once again there was an abundance of poles already there too. A wonderful abundance of firewood for the fireplace (both inside and out). Kitchen had all amenities including our forgotten coffee filters for my morning coffee. Beds were very comfy. The place was close enough to the town for food supplies. We used the paddle boat daily, and we also brought a paddle board that we used daily. Our phone service (verizon) worked great on the lake (LOL), on the volleyball court, in the upper bedrooms. Other parts of the house we received 1G and mostly texts came through.
Owner was great to work with! I would say I would have liked WI-FI however; I loved the idea that all of my kids were unplugged !!! And we played lots of games that was also supplied. I had a wonderful time being unplugged, enjoying family time, playing games.
The weather fluctuated from very hot days and very rainy days to chilly evenings. I did not use the AC as the breeze off the lake was enough to cool the house down. Would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone wanting an enjoyable, relaxing place to stay.
We have actually started here twice. Once in the winter and again in July. Both times were amazing. Plenty of space for our kids and for us. The house has everything and is modern and clean, the land and small lake were beautiful and the kids spent every free minute on the dock or in the water during our summer stay. Each time we were visited often by friends and family from nearby since my husband is originally from that area and the screened porch was a perfect space to entertain. The fireplace kept everyone warm in the winter and it was shaded and cool in the summer. I can't imagine a better place to vacation when we go again. It's so peaceful and secluded I keep telling my kids we are going to go without them next time.
Great Place!!!!! Perfect. Owners are great to deal with! Private in the woods with a big pond! Could use Wi-Fi! We will be back......again!
This was the perfect place for the family. Large enough for all and quiet enough to relax. If there was any downfall to the stay it was that the kids could not catch a variety of fish from dock. There are perch and bullheads but that was about all we caught and not very many. But that was alright as there were a ton of lakes in the immediate area that we were able to catch lots of fish on.
Other than that, we had a blast. I do believe the horseshoe pits area a bit long though. I would look into that and the adult horseshoes were no where to be found. Living area and bedrooms were perfect! The deck, it would have been nice to have a set of steps down to the back yard but that was alright.
Lovely place, nice and secluded! We will be bringing out 35 and older baseball team back up in late August for a stay this year and we will enjoy it!!
Thanks so much!
This was a very nice home, lake, and land. We seen a big bear right by the volleyball court the 3rd day of our stay. The first night we heard the coyotes going crazy for hours. It was amazing. There were dragon flies everywhere, really neat! Lilly pads were around the lake, frogs and tad poles kept our 6year old really busy. We picked off ticks everyday, thankful for they screened in porch for fires at night. Treeland resort was about 2 miles, we were able to luck out and rent a 25ft pontoon on the 4th. They haves really good food and Bloody's. Way better than eating at Famous Dave's if you ask me! The down fall was the owner wasnt good about keeping in contact with us, to just call us and go through everything before our stay. Also when we arrived at 530ish the 29th of July, the home wasnt cleaned. We were exhausted from our long drive, than had to wash bedding and clean the place is what we ended up having to do our first evening there. The owner reimbursed us $500 for having to deal with that, which helped matters.
