About Dana Brenner-Kelley
My name is Dana and I am your host, along with my two kids. We are an active, progressive, artsy family with warm hearts and a love of community. I am from Detroit originally but have been in the PNW for almost 30 years. I work part-time as an organizational development and leadership consultant. We are welcoming of all kinds of people. We live upstairs and are available to help you get to know our city and make the most of your trip. We provide whatever level of privacy you would like. Sometimes we never see our guests. Other times they join us for brunch or an evening chat around the fire pit. It just depends on everyone's needs and desires. I love to sing jazz, play with my non-shedding doodles, make art, and garden. I have a boy and a girl (tween and teen), and they often love to meet other children who stay here. We have two small Doodles named Emmett and Shayna (hypoallergenic) who never go into the unit but love to say hello if they sees you outside, as well as 8 chickens, a conure, and a corn snake named Sammy.

Why Dana Brenner-Kelley chose St. Johns
Staying with us, you are close to the airport, downtown, and all the parts of Portland that people most enjoy. We are a little over 1 hour from the coast, where we have another property "The Grey Roost" for which you can get a 10 percent discount. We are in one of the more "Portland" of Portland neighborhoods with lots of destinations to walk to and amenities close by. You have the best of both worlds because you have your own private space but you have us close on hand to help serve almost as a "concierge" to your stay if you like that. While we live in an urban area, we also have backyard chickens, beautiful gardens, lots of art around, a hot tub, and are close to hikes in nature, beaches, river attractions and more. We are the first owners of this home, which is only 5 years old. While it is built for modern families, it is designed to look old and classic and is modeled after "Portland Four Squares" from the Craftsman Era.

Great place to stay!
This was a great place to stay during our time in the St John's neighborhood. It was clean, neat, and spacious. It had everything that we needed and then some. This is a VRBO that I would highly recommend!
Chickens and a hot tub, what more could you ask for?
We had such a lovely time! Came to Portland for a girls’ trip so the location and size was perfect for what we were looking for. Close enough to downtown that we were able to get to things without any trouble but not so close that we were staying in the thick of things.
Dana was wonderful and checked in via message once or twice to see how things were going, which was very appreciated!
Love the Red Roost!
Our family stays at the Red Roost whenever in Portland. Great location, cozy, and friendly. Already looking forward to our next visit!
Beautiful property, loved all your gardening spaces - even saw a hummingbird when we arrived. You have very inviting decor and lots of room for all of us. It was the perfect central place for us to be to get to the various different things we wanted to see. St. John's is a nice area! Thanks for making us welcome!!
Cute, Quiet and Comfy
Had a very nice weekend stay. Plenty of room for the 4 of us. The self check-in and check-out was very convenient. We were very busy throughout the weekend, so didn't spend a whole lot of time there (mainly just to get changed and sleep), but we were all quite comfortable. Thank you Dana and family!
Property was as described. There was some noise from above, but nothing too bothering. The hot tub was being repaired while we were there so we could not enjoy that. Be sure to read the listing closely, as owner lives above and is very clear on all expectations.
What this guest is not saying but was the factor that is influencing her tone in the review is that I have a strict no smoking policy. Several of the people in her group did not abide by this policy. The hot tub had a malfunction during the beginning of their stay but was fixed and available for their use for the majority of it. They did not like that I had quiet hours after 10pm and would not allow smoking or drinking in the hot tub.
Our home is in North Portland, just 15 minutes from downtown, in the neighborhood called St. Johns. We are sandwiched in between the Columbia and Willamette rivers as within walking distance to the Willamette. There are all kinds of places near here within walking distance: restaurants, bars, coffee shops, grocery stores, vintage shops, 2 movie theaters, parks, even a local brewery and a chocolate factory! We also host an annual jazz festival and a great parade! We are close to museums, lots of cultural activities.
