The most beautiful location!!!!!
This property is the perfect base for anyone who is out to explore the peak district or going to alton towers or any of the other attractions in the area. The views and location is superb. We only spent our sleeping hours in the house. Even when we came back from a long day at alton towers we spent the rest of our evenings walking around the area and exploring!
The house itself is a great size. We had five people staying and had plenty of room. It is comfortable but it is basic furnishings (everything you need tv, all kitchenware and bedding etc) but I reckon that anyone who is booking this accommodation is doing so as a base point only and for that it is absolutely fab!!!
Escape to the country
Fantastic location for Alton Towers and also walking at Dovedale and the Peak district
A Gem in the peak district
The bungalow in Illam is attached to Dovedale house the diocese of Litchfield retreat house. It is a wonderful base for exploring the beautiful countryside of the Derbyshire and Staffordshire Peaks. The bungalow consists of a large lounge with tv and cd player there is plenty of seating. There is a large kitchen which is well stocked with pans etc etc and there is a lovely large kitchen dinning table that seats i wold guess 10 there were 5 of us and there was loads of space. There was also a babies high chair. There are four bedrooms, one double en suite, (baby travel cot as well) Then there were two twin and a single room. My first impression of the beds was this is going to be uncomfortable but in fact they were really comfy and everyone slept well. There is a bathroom with shower, there was a recurring problem with the drain in the shower blocking the warden however was quick to sort this out. The water in the main bathroom was extremely hot in fact dangerously so. Again the warden was sorting this problem out, but do be aware. The wardens Nick and Amy are fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for them. The nearest town for shopping is Ashbourne where there are plenty of shops and supermarkets. We would happily stay there again.
Family walking weekend
Having previously stayed at the bungalow with friends, I was keen to bring family for a walking weekend. They were impressed with how spacious and well-equipped the bungalow is and the excellent walking opportunities from the doorstep. It proved popular with my baby niece, thanks to the availability of a high chair and travel cot, as well as the lack of steps to fall down indoors. The welcome cake was much appreciated too! Our only suggestion is to keep the grass shorter or make a lawnmower available.
Fantastic Location, nice clean bungalow
This bungalow is in a great location, peaceful and quiet with fab views! There are walks right on your doorstep nice short walk to dovedale (great for little ones) or longer walks along the river or footpaths to numerous different places.
The bugalow itself is very spacious, lots of space and a lovely garden to enjoy in the evenings. It was nice and clean with a well equipped kitchen! Nice touch of bread, milk and biscuits gor when you arrive (much appreciated by us)
Only negative we could find was the bungalow is slighty dated in some rooms but thats being picky.
We all agreed we would definitely return.
We had a lovely stay. The property suited us perfectly and everything was very clean.
Unfortunately the internet was down in the village which caused problems communicating with home and the weather was awful but all in all we had a lovely time and will definitely book again. That's good old English weather for you...unpredictable!
