Moonwater is a characterful house located on 45 perches of beautiful, tranquil landscaped tropical gardens in the southern part of Sri Lanka in Unawatuna, close to stunning Wijaya and Jungle beaches and the World Heritage site of Galle. Moonwater is fully staffed, sleeps 10 and is the perfect retreat for families, friends and groups; In fact, we’d like you to think of it as your tropical home from home.
In the main house are 4 large bedrooms, 3 of them are en-suite and all have access to the gardens. There is also a TV/games room, morning room and separate shower with toilet plus there is fibre optic WIFI connectivity throughout. Above Moonwater is a large, self-contained ensuite bedroom and balcony. All bedrooms have A/C, ceiling fans and mosquito nets. The large open plan living area has a wonderful vaulted ceiling plus a dining area that comfortably seats 10.
This unique house was an original Sri Lankan plantation managers home that has now been renovated true to local design and architecture. Moonwater is a solid beach house that naturally flows from one living space to the other and has that unique style of combining both privacy and inviting open spaces for all round entertainment.
Outside is a large private swimming pool as well as fantastic outside dining, BBQ and entertainment areas that comfortably seat 10 plus; we can arrange for our Chef to cater to all your culinary requirements. The Moonwater Yoga Shala is situated within the grounds next to a tranquil water feature and we are more than happy to organise both private and group yoga/meditation sessions as you wish.
At the World Heritage site of Galle, an entire morning can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets that are lined with Dutch and British Colonial era buildings that are still in use. Sturdy ramparts overlook Galle's international cricket stadium and a scattering of shops , art galleries, museums, boutique hotels and cafes are in abundance. Galle is a veritable Aladdin's treasure trove of gemstone shops, arty shops, cafe's and collectables and a visit not to be missed.
If shopping isn't your thing, why not take a 5 minute trip to either Wijaya or Jungle beach or a boat ride on Koggala lake where rural life unfolds and along the way visit a village temple or cinnamon estate. Whale watching, Elephant orphanages, turtle rehabilitation centres, moonstone mine exploration or a Sri Lankan safari are all on offer and we can help to arrange for your convenience. Snorkelling and Scuba diving is possible in Unawatuna Bay and there are also several surf points nearby.
If you don't wish to venture far, you can spend your time locally in the magical and vibrant beachside village of Unawatuna sampling the cafes, restaurants and local craft and souvenir shops. You can sit at tables as the water laps at your feet or lie for hours on the sun lounges under the tropical sun.
If you're travelling with a small child, the house is equipped with a cot, high chair, sand toys and children's indoor toys.
