Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

Anchordene is a charming holiday cottage located on a quiet road in the village of Tywardreath (which means House on the Strand), made famous by Daphne Du Maurier.

Tywardreath is a good-sized village on the south coast of Cornwall in between Fowey (4 miles) and St Austell (3 miles). The village has two good pubs, local shops, a fish and chip shop and other amenities close by.

Anchordene is a Victorian property with a wealth of features including a wood stove in the living room, four bedrooms, family bathroom, lavatory, dining room, kitchen and living room. Outside, there is a sun terrace with glimpses of the sea and a lawned garden, stocked with a large variety of plants and flowers.

There are two double and two single bedrooms at the property. In addition, there is an occasional sofa-bed in the living room.

Anchordene has been recently renovated to a high standard and provides comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people, plus a travel cot for children under the age of 2.

Towels and linen are provided and a full cleaning service is provided at the end of the stay. Minimum stay is normally for 5 nights, though there may be circumstances where a shorter period can be negotiated.

The photos dont do justice to the size of the property, in a great village location & neighbourhood.

It is very hard to find holiday accommodation during peak season that doesn't start Saturday to Saturday. So it was a great relief to find this great house and the Host Alex very flexible in allowing us to go Thursday to Thursday, we had a family Wedding at the Eden Project, which meant we wanted to travel early and settle in.

The accommodation is a very pleasant surprise, a lot bigger than anticipated and clearly someone's holiday home, with their first year underway I'm sure in time with a few more tweaks they will make this an exceptional family or adult only vacation home for others.

It had all the basics we needed, which didn't include a TV, but holidays are about spending time together. Its a short drive to the lovely sandy Par Sands beach, with 'The Ship Inn' very near, Tywardreath was in some ways like stepping back in time, great Butchers and Fish and Chip Shop and the community shop was a little wander. A ten minute walk to Par. Wish we'd had more time to wander round. But this house is in a quiet residential area but near all the sights and places of interest. Would recommend The Royal Inn near St Andrews Road for food and puddings!

All I would recommend is that they provide a folder with local information such as local Pubs and restaurants , Dr's, shop etc, as well as having instructions for the various electrical equipment as its not always easy to get to grips with unfamiliar oven's and microwaves.

It may also be an idea for a visitors book which can be really interesting to read, but also allows the holiday makers to make comments and recommendations about place they have visited and enjoyed. We may well come and stay again.

Good location, pleasant house

Alex's house is well presented and in a lovely village with a functioning village shop, a decent pub and a fish and chip shop. The house is welcoming and the kitchen well equipped and it has a few basic food stuffs and seasoning so you don't have to buy/bring everything with you. A healthy rosemary bush and good BBQ can be found in the garden. Its a short walk to the coast at Par Sands and there are many other beaches and attractions a short drive away. We had a great holiday - thank you

Kidz World – Soft play, crazy golf, climbing apparatus

Polkerris Beach – Closest, child-friendly beach – Kayak hire, surfing, wind-sailing

Fowey – Really nice port town with lots of restaurants, small beach, fishing and boating trips.

Charlestown – Small port village with small pebbly beach and some old, tall ships

Wingz Bird Sanctuary – Near Tywardreath

Par Beach – Close to the property – dog walking/walking beach

Par Sands – Use of swimming pool (fee payable), tennis courts and playground to the public

Further afield:

Cornwall’s Crealy - Child-friendly amusement park

Places to visit (Days out):

Newquay – Lots of restaurants, great beaches, zoo, leisure centre (slides etc)

St. Ives – Very nice port town around an hour from the house – Three beaches, lots of good food and shops.

Padstow – A very nice, smaller (but busy) version of St. Ives.

Lostwithiel – Small town on the river Fowey – Small pebble beach that can be nice for smaller children, on a sunny day.

St Michael’s Mount, Marazion - - Beautiful castle and grounds set on an island off the coast of South Cornwall. A famous landmark and well worth a visit.

Places to eat:

Sams at the Beach - - Two restaurants – One in Fowey and one on the beach. Both very good – The one on the beach gets busy so you will need to book – This is a more upmarket place (but still child-friendly). The one in Fowey is more relaxed and you can’t book in advance.

The Royal Inn, Par – - Our local pub/restaurant. Good food and ok for kids, though you do get ‘locals’ there too.

The Old Quay House Hotel, Fowey - - Very nice, upmarket restaurant in the hotel. Nice patio area out the back over-looking the River Fowey. Very nice place to have afternoon/evening drinks.

The Toll Bar, Fowey - - small café – good for breakfast and small snacks

The Dwelling House, Fowey - - Where to go for a Cornish afternoon tea.

Rashleigh Inn, Polkerris - - Pub food (with a restaurant area). Good food; kids menu available. Nice to sit out on the terrace over-looking the beach.
