This property consists of a former artist's studio on 3 levels ('The Atelier d'artiste') and its independant studio('The Studio') on the ground floor courtyard. The 'Atelier' was built in the nineteenth century, by grafting on a house dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth century. Its charm is mainly due to the mix of ages as well as a careful and faithful to its history decoration.

3. Strengths of Avignon and the surrounding region.
Avignon, historic town surrounded by ramparts and largest theater in the world in July, is rich in architecture, from medieval times to twentieth century. From the Palace of the Popes to the Calvet Museum, through the Lambert Foundation (Museum of contemporary art), you can discover its extraordinary heritage through its many squares lined with plane trees and its alleys.
Avignon is located in the heart of one of the most important tours of South France. Thanks to an efficient transport service (bus, train, rental cars), you will discover at least one hour ride, the more beautiful villages of the Luberon with its lavender fields and olive trees, the largest market of antiques and decoration from France at L'Isle-sur-Sorgue, important historic sites such as Orange and its roman theater, the castle of the Marquise de Sevigné in Grignan, Aix-en-Provence, Les Baux de Provence, Saint Remy de Provence, the Pont du Gard ... but also the creeks of Cassis and the charming ski slopes of Mont Ventoux, the great beaches of Grau du Roi, the wine tours from Suze-la-Rousse to Gigondas through the hillsides of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the truffle country in Richerenches, bullfights in Nîmes and Arles and many other discoveries yet ...
Duo of designers, Amaury and Gilles, lovers of History and art of living, paintings collectors (18th and 19th century) and works of art, now design their house in the heart of the largest private garden in Avignon , right next to the Artist's studio.
They will guide you to the best addresses and places to discover in the papal city.
They will pick you up for free at the train station if you wish.
Amaury purchased this apartment in 2010
This house, with its size and style, atypical in Avignon, and its calm, makes you feel right away very well.
Convenient location two steps from the Popes Palace, the small squares surrounded by restaurants and all the shops, especially Les Halles, the daily market where you will get all fresh produce of Provence.
We stayed in the studio department in the Atelier d'ariste last week and followed up with a 4 day visit in Paris. Depsite the bright lights and noted attractions of Paris, we enjoyed our visit in Avignon more. The TVG high speed line takes travelers from Charles deGaulle to Avignon in about 3 hours.
Amaury was an incredible host. From picking and dropping us off at the airport to assuring we were appropriately provisioned in the studio, he was extraordinarily gracious. The studio was decorated very well and we were surprised to find we would sleep in a king size bed. His selection of restaurants were impeccable; we ate like kings (or Popes I should say) and at very reasonable values. We had originally planned on trying restaurants in Arles and other local villages in the evening, but Amaury's selections were the best.
Avignon is a great medieval town to walk around in and we were surprised at the variety of modern infusion type restaurants intermixed with traditional Provence type restaurants. The shopping was wonderful too as we acquired many unique Christmas gifts while there.
The day trips from Avignon were incredible as well. We rented a car for two days and was able to see most of the well known spots - Pont Du Gard, Arles, Les Baux and St Remy.
We will come back, hopefully by the time Amaury has completed his B&B. The old Cardinals home he is converting and adjacent gardens is are beautiful.

It's hard to know where to begin - everything about our stay exceeded expectations.
- The location - situated at a the end of a very quiet land in the heart of old Avignon, is no more than a 10 minute walk from the Palais de Popes.
- The studio - ground level entry, VERY secure, beautifully appointed with all the amenities and kitchen supplies, and guide books you could ever ask for.
- The host, Amaury, is incredibly helpful, and not to mention charming! We took his suggestions on restaurants, where to visit (and not visit), and not once were we steered wrong. The next time we are n Provence, there is absolutely no question on where we will be staying - this is the place. Don't let the pictures fool you - they do not do this property justice.
We stayed in the Atelier d'artiste and the studio early July 2016. There were three generations of our family staying in the properties. We absolutely loved everything about the apartment and studio, and the welcome and warmth that we received from Amaury and Gille. We cannot say enough about how thankful we are to Amaury for his graciousness and kindness. He watched over us and provided wonderful recommendations on restaurants and other things to do in and around Avignon. Gille was a wonderful host and a delight as well.
The Atelier and the Studio were beautifully decorated, and offered every amenity for vacationing comfort. The kitchens and bathrooms were tastefully modern and had all of the best appliances. The ample linens were very nice and the air conditioning worked great. There was nothing more that we could have asked for nor needed. But if we did, I am sure that they would have tried to accommodate us.
The location is ideal - right at the foot of the Papal Palace - and with parking it allowed us to get in and out of Avignon to explore beautiful Provence.
The piece de resistance was Gille and Amaury's unbelievable garden and other structures on the property. Gille's interior and landscape design skills are beyond exquisite and they come through in every detail of the garden and all of the buildings on the site. It is without a doubt - a delight for all of the senses. This icing on the cake (the gardens), along with Amaury's and Gille's warmth and hospitality made our stay absolutely magical and unforgettable. We cannot wait to return!
The location is excellent, the facilities are superb, bedding is comfortable, place is clean and the pictures are totally accurate.
The only warning I would provide is that if you are going to drive around the central part of Avignon, make sure you take your time going around corners as the streets are narrow and the turns are tight. Once you get used to this, it is all good. Rent the smallest car you can accommodate your luggage in. And I definitely think it pays to have a car as Avignon serves as a great central base to explore all of Provence!
Amaury and Gilles have done an excellent job in decorating the apartment and the location is close to the Palace of the Popes and the major sites in Avignon, but at the same time very quiet. It is at a dead end of a street so traffic is limited. Amaury has various options for garage parking that is also very convenient.
Amaury will offer great recommendations for restaurants and will help with reservations if asked. He also knows the surrounding area well and can assist there. I had a problem with my hiking boot and Amaury took it to a shoe repair for me. I had an issue with my car rental and Amaury took me to the local Hertz rental car and helped me get a new car. I could go on and on but I think it is sufficient to say that if you stay with Amaury, you will be taken care of and they will enrich your experience. Don't even hesitate to choose one of Amaury and Gilles locations, you will be pleased.
This studio is spacious, beautifully decorated, and filled with many amenities that make for a wonderful stay in the heart of Avignon. The walk to the Popes Palace garden was a daily favorite and only moments away. Despite the great location, the studio is private and quiet. Adding to all of this is the wonderful host, Amaury, who takes pride in the city of Avignon and also in welcoming guests to the studio. I was traveling solo, and his kind attention made me feel safe and at home. He and his partner Gilles are planning a renovation of a neighboring property and turning it into a bed and breakfast next year. With their talents and caring touch, I can only hope to return to Avignon to experience another great stay.
This studio apartment not only is charming and well appointed, but in a perfect location.....walking distance to any site within Avignon city. And to make it even better, Amaury and Giles are amazing hosts. We loved every moment and hope that our travels bring us back to Avignon again one day. Many, many thanks.
