Amazing Family Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had the most fantastic stay at Wheel farm, we were made so welcome from the minute we arrived.

a great location as a base to see the area and with having the pool on site it just completed the holiday for us and our four year old son.

The owners and Max (the dog) are lovely too.

Thank you for a fab stay and we would definitely return.

Other Activities:

Many family friendly attractions can be enjoyed within easy reach of Wheel Farm such as the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Exmoor Zoo, Ilfracombe Aquarium and Watermouth Cove. Many of these also offer discounts on tickets if booked in advance via their website, so it is worth checking before setting off for the day. Other attractions nearby include Dartington Crystal, RHS Rosemoor and Broomhill Sculpture Garden.

Several water sports can be experienced when staying in North Devon with surfing being the highlight for many, however jet-ski-ing is also available at Watermouth Cove, and kayaking at Combe Martin.

If you would prefer to enjoy a round of golf, both Ilfracombe and Saunton Sands are only a short drive away and have some gorgeous coastal views.

The Byre cottage is one of eleven cottages at Wheel Farm, a small complex just outside the popular seaside village of Combe Martin. It is a lovely quiet countryside setting, with some beautiful views but it is also very close to the North Devon coastline.

In Combe Martin, just a 5-minute drive from the cottages, guests will find a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, there is also a lovely cove with shingle/sand beach perfect for families and children looking to enjoy playing in the rock pools.

If searching for a larger beach, the award-winning Woolacombe beach is only a few miles away and is home to a 3-mile long stretch of golden sands. This popular beach is maned by lifeguards from Easter through to the end of the October half term week and is great not only for those with children but also water-sport enthusiasts. Alternative beaches just a little further away include Croyde and Saunton Sands. If you would prefer something a little different why not visit The Tunnels in Ilfracombe where there is a tidal pool.

Ilfracombe is less than a 10-minute drive from Wheel Farm and has plenty to offer its visitors, with its beautiful harbour and numerous shops and restaurants. Some of the favourite places to eat in the Victorian town, include 11, The Quay, owned by contemporary artist Damien Hirst, who also gave 'Verity' to the town, and The Olive Room, which has recently been awarded a Michelin star. From the harbour you can set sail around the coast on sea safari or take a trip to Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel, which is renowned for its excellent coastal walks and wildlife, you can also snorkel off its coastline.

Other towns and villages worth visiting include the pretty Appledore with its quirky terrace lined streets, Instow where there is a lovely estuary beach and esplanade, and Lynton and Lynmouth where Exmoor meets the sea and visitors can travel the famous water-powered Cliff Railway.

If you head inland, Exmoor National Park is less than a 30-minute drive and ideal for walkers and spotting some of the local wildlife. Other excellent walks can be found along the South West Coast Path, which is accessible from Combe Martin and the Tarka Trail, which is also cyclist friendly.
