About the property

Prestigious St Ives house - stunning panoramic sea views, 5 mins walk to beach

Chy an Carrack, Cornish for House on the Rock, is a beautiful 5-star Gold rated 4-bedroom house that sits in a spectacular coastal setting, with panoramic sea views extending across St Ives Bay including St Ives harbour and beaches and to Godrevy Lighthouse.

Its just 5 minutes walk down the hill to the nearest sandy beach – St Ives's award winning Porthminster Beach. St Ives town centre and fishing harbour are just a short walk from the beach. A stunning seaside haven for a fantastic holiday.

Make the most of the mild coastal climate with coast walks, glorious gardens and the cobbled streets of St Ives to explore, all right on your doorstep.

Please note the usual changeover day is Friday for week bookings and Fri/Sat or Mon/Tues for short breaks - minimum 3 nights, short breaks not available school holidays.

Originally built in 1905 for local shipping magnate Sir Edward Hain as a farmhouse for his estate, it has a distinctive and elegant arts and crafts style that sets it apart from traditional Cornish granite buildings.

Sitting right on the South West coastal path, just a few minutes walk brings you to the family friendly golden sands of one of St Ives' best beaches – Porthminster (there are 4 others to try!), and one of the town's best seafood restaurants that sits right beside the waves.

Dust the sand from your feet and head into the town for its lovely cobbled streets, shops, fishing harbour, and immerse yourself in the artistic heritage and sights such as the numerous art galleries, the Tate and the Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden.

The house is as beautiful inside as its setting outside, with a soft seaside palette and furnishings and fittings from top quality local and British designers and makers. There are 4 superbly appointed upstairs bedrooms (1 master king sized double with en suite, 1 king sized double, 1 twin/double, 1 single with en suite and garden terrace, plus a family bathroom), that feature sumptuous mattresses, fresh white cotton linen and are guaranteed to relax and refresh you on your holiday. Three of the bedrooms have stunning sea views and the twin/double room has gorgeous garden views. There is a further snug/cinema room that can also be used as a bedroom with a bespoke daybed.

With a choice of reception rooms – you can relax in the luxurious living room or watch the boats go by from the comfortable conservatory - both have panoramic sea views. Cooking and dining is a pleasure in the generous and well-appointed kitchen/dining room. Plus the snug/cinema room is a cosy space to watch a movie or sport with BT Infinity broadband, BT Sports and Netflix provided.

Outside you can enjoy the sub-tropical terraced garden just soaking up the sun and the seaside ambience, or tuck into a tasty supper on the dining patio. Clamber to the top of the garden to get the best views over St Ives Bay.

From the minute you arrive, this lovely holiday property is sure to delight you.

About Victoria Jelbert (Property Manager)

We are Patrick and Lyn, and we bought the house in early 2016, and use it regularly to get away from our busy working lives out of county. When we began renovating Chy an Carrack, we wanted to do it justice, and have tried to bring in the colours and materials that we feel work with the character of the house and with the sea and land around it. We have used local artisans wherever possible – carpenters, joiners, and furniture makers from Cornwall have all contributed to making the house what it is.

We love St Ives for its art, especially the pottery, and for its stunning natural environment – and for its fabulous food!

We are both professionals with fairly hectic lives, and when we found Chy an Carrack, we felt that we had found a haven, where we feel very much at home, and where we plan to retire to.

Why Victoria Jelbert (Property Manager) chose Saint Ives

What we really love about this house is coming here - as soon as we arrive, we feel like we have escaped from the world of work and the stress of the city. We often arrive late at night, and stop for a moment before we go into the house, to take in the stars and the lovely view over St Ives.

Chy an Carrack has a very special feel to it – whether it’s the changing views of the sea and the sky, the birds in the garden and the seals that you can see from the house, the walks along the coast, or the stroll down to dinner, it has a peace and tranquility that we always appreciate and which always refreshes and revives us.

What makes this house unique

You are blessed with stunning sea views from almost every room in the house, and the easy access to the beach and town makes for a fantastic seaside holiday at any time of year.

You can walk east along the South West Coastal path towards the huge expanses of Porthkidney Sands, or west along the rugged coast line to Zennor and Gurnards Head beyond.

When combined with easy access to the Penwith peninsula and the rest of Cornwall, Chy an Carrack offers a unique holiday that will leave you wanting to come back and explore more!

Stunning View and House

  • 5 of 5

The house was gorgeous, clean, and spotless. The view was breathtaking. My only complaint is though the beach is only down the hill, it's a vigorous walk not for the elderly or super young children. Same with going into town. We love the house so much we rarely left, I can't wait to go again. Thank you.

The house is frontline, sitting on the cliff just beside Porthminster Beach, overlooking the National Trust coastline towards Godrevy Lighthouse. It is beside the South West Coast Path and you can walk west to St Ives beaches and town and beyond, or east to Carbis Bay beach and beyond.

A tree lined footpath takes you from the property, down the hill to the beach.

There is a quiet branch railway line sunk into the cliff below the house, which is not noticeable or visible from the property due to the higher elevation. This scenic single track branch line connects St Ives to St Erth along the coast and is well worth taking to enjoy the view!
