Unique villa with rustic charm; a special little hideaway in a perfect setting, actually built into the cliff face of Carvoeiro. The villa enjoys hypnotic views of the sunset and the ocean; the ideal villa for romantics who appreciate warm lazy evenings and who will find the sunroof of special benefit. All one has at the bottom of the garden is the sea. The village is literally a few minutes downhill by foot, therefore car hire is not necessary.
A newly fitted kitchen was installed in 2010.
Casa Refugio is a tiny very charming villa with a stunning view over the sea.
We are looking forward to our next stay there.
The property was clean and the maid and the gardener were very friendly and did a good job.
I would definitely recommend this villa.
perfect organized stay, friendly maid, gardener and poolman, a charming old house with a wonderful view
Beautiful view of the sea. It's a lovely villa but needs updating. The villa is in a brilliant location near to shops and restaurants. The villa is clean but the beds, curtains and soft furnishings are a tired. The bathroom needs updating and lighting could do with updating. I would recommend this villa because if its vista.
We enjoyed another relaxing three weeks at Casa Refugio. This is our third stay in the villa and the location is second to none. We hope to return again next year although it would be good to see some improvements to the bathroom before then as is particularly in need of some upgrading. The maid service is excellent and Mario extremely helpful.
We first stayed at Refugio in 1989 and discovered its ideal location. We have since returned on a couple of occasions recently and look forward to doing so again in the near future. It is ideally suited for a couple and, although just a short walk down the hill to the town centre, it is quiet and not overlooked. In fact it is one of Carvoeiro’s secrets being in one of the most photographed views on the Algarve but totally hidden from sight. We found it quaintly but charmingly furnished with everything one could want and the maid service was very good. The pool is excellent and the beautiful garden overlooking the ocean will always provide a shaded spot if needed. The views of the sun setting over the sea are spectacular. We love it!
We have been visiting this villa for many years, it is within walking distance to shops and restaurants but when you are inside your villa you could be miles away from anywhere!
The property was cleaned regularly, and Mario the Manager of the villa, was helpful.
The villa could do with a bit of updating e.g the bedroom, patio doors but overall it's wonderful and I wish it was ours!
We stayed at this property 10 years previously and found that some things had changed for the better, while some hadn`t.
The location of this Villa is excellent,Carvoeiro being just a sort walk down the hill.
The Villa has had a new kitchen fitted recently, and now has a laminate floor in the bedroom. However...the bathroom, which was badly dated during our previous stay 10 years ago, is now very poor.
There is a very outdated pink bathroom suite, the base of the bath has rusty patches on the bottom and looks very unsightly.
During our stay the local town council decided to carry out some work on the ruined property next door to the Villa, totally ruining the peace and quiet that is one of the main attractions of the place. The other big attraction of the place is the privacy, as you cannot normally be overlooked.
This was not the case during our stay however, as the men carrying out the work could easily look into the usually private area around the pool, and took every opportunity to do so.
We even had to move our sunbeds to an area where we could not be gawped at.
I contacted the Villa manager, Mario Caldeira, to see if he could find out what was going on, and it was he who found out that the town council had sanctioned the work next door.
He said he was very surprised that the work was taking place in the busy tourist period.
It has to be said that Mario was very helpful, even coming to visit us at the Villa to explain what was happening.
In no way can Mario or the booking agent Valgarve have known that this work was going to take place, and we were probably just unlucky to be in the Villa on that particular week.
It did put a bit of a dampener on our Holiday though.
In summary then...
Car not needed.
Lovely garden and pool area.
Really helpful Villa manager and booking agent.
Good quality TVs with satellite.
Bathroom in desperate need of replacement.
