Garden and Pool: The garden has now established itself beautifully and there is a lot to enjoy throughout the year. Near to the house there are south facing terraces with a mixture of hard landscaping in stone, gravel and grassed areas for sitting out which have been planted with buddleia, wisteria, roses, lavender, rosemary, thyme, sage, wild grasses, Jasmine, cypress and many more wonderful Mediterranean plants. Nearby above and below the house there are ancient olive groves, natural woodland of oak and chestnut and wild meadows to explore. You may find figs, blackberries and plums and you may see a porcupine, eagles, buzzards or deer or hear the sound of a wild boar. There is no light pollution here so you may spend some time star gazing, on a clear night they are spectacular with the Milky Way clearly visible.
The large pool is secluded, private and regularly cleaned benefiting from the sun all day long making this an ideal place for the focus of your day in high summer. It is well equipped with comfortable sunloungers and a fixed pergola for shade. There is outdoor lighting for a late night dip or party by the pool.
The surrounding area: This is an area less touched by tourism which retains its ancient rural charms with local festivals to be found honouring saints or local specialities. Every hilltop seems to offer another attractive town starting with nearby Santa Maria Tiberina dating back to Etruscan times. You will find fields of sunflowers, poppies, wheat, olive oil, wine & truffles, superb light, renaissance art, architecture and a local community that is welcoming and friendly especially at the local store in Gioello (5km) and San Secondo (8km). Citta di Castello (18km) is a walled medieval centre with winding streets to wander where people have time to stroll and chat - you will find shops, banks, supermarkets, markets, ice cream shops –some 24 hour!, cafes restaurants and a thermal spa. Have a drink at one of the many pavement cafes, people watch, or enjoy the evening passegiata.
We provide an extensive guide at the house to help you to discover and explore the local area and the ‘Green heart of Italy’ for yourself. Try not to miss Piero della Francescas Madonna del Parto in Monterchi (only 25 mins) and other inspired works at Sansepolcro, Arezzo and Urbino. Others may enjoy the nearby country club with its horse riding centre, 9 hole golf course, pool and restaurant, or maybe guided walks or hiring bikes and mountain biking is more your thing. Slightly further away there is an 18 hole golf course west of Perugia and a selection of water-sports are available at Lake Trasimeno (1 hr). Perugia, a university town to the south and Arezzo a regional centre to the north (1 hour max) are both honey pots which have a real buzz, there’s lots going on and plenty of shops to suit all tastes and curiosities. Assisi with its spectacular cathedral will help to fulfill spiritual needs just one of the many places of inspiration within an hour from Colcello not to mention all the many churches, museums and galleries that Italy is so renowned for.
This is an area of concerts and festivals happening throughout the summer from a small intimate but highly respected film festival in Montone or classical concerts in the hill top towns of Citerna, Monterchi or Anghiari sometimes held outdoors through to spectacular festivals and pallios held in Arezzo or Gubbio conducted in full medieval costume with processions, flags and fuelled with local enthusiasm and vigour. There are a myriad of food festivals held throughout the summer from truffles to polenta to porchetta or local honey, wine or oil. Citta di Castello hosts one of the Italy’s most prestigious horse festivals. If chocolate or Jazz is your passion Perugia has the festival for it.

Meet Frank and Jennifer. We live in Italy and use this house as a weekend retreat and for holidays. We really love leaving the city and getting to stay at this house because whenever we arrive we start to relax. The environment is clean and peaceful and this makes a change from our normal busy lives...
Owner purchased this Farmhouse in 2016
Why Owner chose Monte Santa Maria Tiberina
Having decided to purchase a holiday place in Italy (rather than elsewhere) we then spent a year being driven round to possible places by real estate agents. When we first saw the beautiful setting and views, and the large , deep pool, and realised that it had been recently renovated from a wrecked farmhouse, we knew it was for us....and we still do!

Fabulous House With Fantastic Views & Pool
We were lucky enough to stay here eleven years ago and vowed we would return. This house is made for peaceful, relaxing and chill out holidays. Externally there is a great pool with great views, a really nice pergola next to the house for meals and a fantastic terrace on the other side of the house for just relaxing. Internally the house is well laid out with a nice open plan dining room kitchen and a corridor through to a large living area. The house is beautifully finished throughout with plenty of space in the bedrooms, two en-suite.Having been fortunate enough to rent other houses in Italy I find this one hard to beat, we had a fabulous time. The owners are great in keeping touch and even phoned to ask if the evenings needed the heating on as it was getting chillier at night!
Hello Mark, it was a great pleasure having your group stay, and we were very happy to hear that the stay was to celebrate a significant family event!
It was certainly a well chosen time of year, as September (and April/ May/ June for that matter) offer moderate temperatures and still plenty of sun, but avoid the summer highs of temperature and cost! I wonder if you managed to visit any of the festivals locally....we are looking forward to the white truffle festival in Citta Di Castello in November!
Ciao and great travelling
Casa Colcello is a beautiful house, great pool, magnificent views highly recommended
We were twelve people, grandparents, children and their children. The house was very lovely, roomy , well equipped and we highly recommend it. It is wonderfully situated in that it it high up and commands wonderful views. The pool, of course, is an additional asset.
Our only qualification is that it takes a long time to go anywhere, because it is at the top of winding roads, and just to get down to level grounds takes almost half an hour. Thus, I would highly recommend it to people who want to spend their time there, rather than travel around for sightseeing.
Beautiful House in a wonderful quiet place...
We spent our Easter holidays in this wonderful house on the Umbria/Toscana border.
The House , if it were possible (?!) was even bigger than the pictures suggested: We were 8 adults and 3 children and had more than enough space in a really romantic and warm environment.
The house is way better equipped than my last memories of Rustically Italian houses: high standards equipments from the kitchen to the living rooms. The heating (yeah, Easter´s nights are not always the warmest :) ) worked perfectly and
we could actually enjoy taking our shower without planning shifts for warm water!
The location of the house is absolutely Genius. You can directly start your hikes or bike tours, any other „MUST“ of sightseeing are at max 40 to 60 mins drive.
The House is a little bit off the grid, you may want to plan your groceries.
The landlords were very nice and unbelievably helpful, the whole time.
All questions, mails etc. were immediately answered, from before the booking to the time of stay.
You can absolutely switch off, sit back and relax.
We highly recommend this house to anyone who is looking for peace but do not want to give comfort away.
Sabine, thanks for your strong support of our holiday home venture…we are so glad you enjoyed yourselves. We felt you were an ideal group for the house. It was a pleasure to host you all and thanks for taking care of the place! By responding to your questions and hearing about how you spent your visit we learned more about the area ourselves, so now we can help others with new information about fishing spots and biking information! Enjoy your summer and please tell your friends!!
