Newly listed and fitted with modern comforts for people who enjoy the independence of self catering accommodation. The Barn is the ideal retreat for either a short break or holiday destination to enjoy the secrets of Somerset and to discover Dorset & East Devon.

Nestling within a conservation area of the tranquil village of Merriott in South Somerset, The Barn is a honey coloured Ham Stone conversion, offering a lovely, spacious holiday home for up to 4 people. It is perfectly located for exploring the world heritage coastline as well as an abundance of sights and attractions further inland. The Barn is a 2 minute walk from the dog-friendly Kings Head pub which serves cask ales, ciders and great food (inc. Takeaway option).

Enter straight into the well equipped, light & spacious kitchen/diner. Facilities include dishwasher, washing machine/tumble dryer, fridge freezer, microwave, slow cooker, electric hob & eye level oven & grill. The ground floor double bedroom with skylight is furnished with shaker style built in wardrobes and a brass double bed. Situated next to the bedroom is the bathroom with a large shower cubicle, wash basin and toilet. The living area has two comfortable sofas; there is also a large SMART T.V., a well stocked bookcase and games / jigsaws to entertain you. The beamed mezzanine bedroom, overlooking the bright and airy living area below is accessed via the (steep) staircase. The King size zip-lock bed can be separated to provide 2 x 2ft 6in single beds. There is also a garment rail with shelf compartments.

Outside is a small patio area with bistro table and chairs for you to enjoy a glass of wine on a summers evening. The Barn also provides free WiFi. All towels (excluding beach towels) and linen are provided. There is also a hair dryer, iron and ironing board for your use. Heating and electricity are included within the quoted price.

The Barn could be suitable for people with restricted mobility as it can be used as one level accommodation. There is a grab handle in the shower and also outside to aid the one step down to the patio area – please contact the owners with any queries.

Dogs are very welcome at The Barn and there are some lovely walks right here in Merriott and the surrounding area. There are plenty of places locally to visit and eat where dogs are also welcome. We donate half of all charges for dogs to Hounds First Sighthound rescue . Please note that dogs must be kept on leads at all times when outside the barn & the immediate area as there are poultry and livestock nearby.

The Barn has off-road parking for one car.

Strictly no stag or hen parties. The mezzanine bedroom is not suitable for children under 10. Changeover day is normally Friday and there is a minimum stay of 3 nights when requesting a booking at most times.

After spending many years holidaying in the area we have finally fulfilled our dream and moved to this wonderful part of the country. We live next to the barn and manage the property ourselves. We will strive to make your visit as relaxing and comfortable as possible.

About Eric Vose

I'm recently retired and moved to the West Country with my partner Amanda during the Spring of 2016. Our aim was to create a holiday home and to enjoy a better quality of life in a village location - we have achieved both of these goals. We feel as though we came away on a holiday and never went home! Our rural location is both peaceful and full of character with an amazing array of ancient stone buildings in a conservation area.

The Barn, Merriott, Somerset

Fabulous barn conversion. Spacious, comfortable and loads of terrific touches. We arrived to fresh eggs, orange juice, milk, tea, coffee, dog treats... and more. Owner Eric is a fountain of local knowledge and nothing is too much trouble. The local pub is literally two minutes walk away... and the food is superb. As are the Gin cocktails!! Dog walking is a joy... and our daughters Alaskan Malamute would certainly recommend it. We would just like to say thanks to Eric and Amanda for a brilliant break in their lovely Barn... and we plan to go back.

Exceeded expectations property was as described, clean, very well equipped and welcoming.

We received an extremely warm welcome from Eric. The Barn was very well equipped & we appreciated the little thoughtful touches such as the fresh flowers and welcome pack (for us and our 2 dogs). It was especially nice to have the dogs made so welcome! The village is postcard pretty and everyone we met was warm & friendly. There were beautiful walks on our doorstep & the coast is a short journey by car.

Would highly recommend the local pub (both eat in and/or take away) again dogs were welcomed rather than tolerated. The village has all the amenities needed (pub, cafe, 2 village stores & petrol station) and The Barn had everything we needed was clean, comfortable and a real "home from home". The location was perfect as lots to see and do while being able to come back to the Barn & relax in the quiet peaceful atmosphere. Would love to return for a longer visit. Thank you Eric & Amanda for allowing us to share!

Home Away From Home

The Barn, Merriott July 25-30

The Barn has been an ideal location for our family (two adults two girls aged 15 & 13). With day trips to the Jurassic Coast, Bath, and Salisbury it was the ideal location for us. Knowing that at the end of each day we had a comfortable "Barn" to come home to made each day that much more than enjoyable. Eric and Amanda were brilliant hosts from the moment we made contact with them months ago. Every need that a travelling family requires was anticipated, at the Barn, like the extensive welcome package waiting for us. Eric's knowledge and interest in the south west is a great resource for new and returning visitors to this region.

Owner's Response: The Miller family started their UK tour with a visit to The Barn in South Somerset. This was great travel advice because it gave them the opportunity to retune their body clocks following their journey from Canada and also to become familiar with driving on the opposite side of the road to which they were accustomed. An itinerary which included North Wales, the Lake District and Edinburgh followed. We were able to provide some tips regarding attractions when they went on to visit York. A lovely family, who spent 5 nights with us before their trip around the UK. They really enjoyed their time at The Barn and we certainly enjoyed providing them with information when we met with them during their stay. If and when we visit Western Canada, we will be in touch!

Delightful, peaceful well equiped cottage,

We stayed here for 3 nights with our 12 year old grandson, the cottage is literally home from home it is so well equipped & comfortable, furnished to a very high standard with its own parking space. Our grandson loved his bedroom on the mezzanine floor overlooking the lounge, sleeping was not a problem as we all went to bed at the same time Eric & Amanda cannot do enough for you, there is a very comprehensive welcome pack to start you off & a farm next door where you can purchase more eggs ( 6 are included in your welcome pack ) Crewkerne is very central for reaching the Dorset & South Devon coastline ( Lyme Regis around 20- 25mins ) by car. We would love to return & explore the local area which we were unable to do in just 3 days as our grandson just wanted the coast.

Owner's Response: Corrin booked The Barn for her parents and her son for a short break during the school holidays. They were really into visiting the Jurassic coast so they could hunt for fossils and take in some sea fishing. They did discover some fossils, but not as large as those which they found when they first visited the area over 50 years ago. They left the property so clean and tidy, that at first glance you would not have realised that it had been occupied for three nights. Thank you for visiting us - we really enjoyed your smiling faces and your appreciation of The Barn. Come back soon!

Owner's Response: Dave & Denise were an extremely sociable couple who spent a week at The Barn. They had a wonderful time visiting the range of local places to eat during their stay. The Kings Head was a personal favourite in the village along with Haselbury Mill which is a 5 minute drive from Merriott. They made use of the DVD player and Netflix as they are both avid film watchers. They received a warm welcome wherever they ventured and they thoroughly enjoyed their holiday in South Somerset. We hope they can find the time to visit us again in the New Year.

Fantastic place. Space enough for a family of 4, all modern conveniences, town has all amenities.

Would recommend The Barn to anyone. The accommodations are very clean and comfortable - washer/drier, fully equipped kitchen, TV with Netflix, USB sockets in the walls. Merriott is a quiet town with all amenities within walking distance: a village pub down the road, farm stands, a grocery coop, butcher, and tea room. The Barn is in easy striking distance of attractions like Lyme Regis and Lulworth, we took a nice hike out of Seatown to Golden Cap. Eric is a great host - he set us up with fresh eggs and a few other essentials when we arrived, and otherwise just made sure we were comfortable during our stay. The place was easily big enough for a family of 4, with the "children" being adult-sized teenagers. An ideal spot from our perspective.

Owner's Response: Our first review by guests from North America is something to make us so proud especially since it was such a complimentary one. The Funke family had a 4 night stay and crammed so much into that short break. They were great guests who enjoyed their visits to locations on or near the Jurassic coast, even swimming through Durdle Door near Lulworth! We met in the local pub where we were playing skittles and they came to watch as our team beat one of the favourites to win the competition. They looked after our property and we would be delighted if they found the time to visit us again. Thank you so much and best wishes to you all.

Merriott is a peaceful village set in the lush, undulating countryside of South Somerset. The buildings are mainly constructed from locally quarried ham stone which has a charming honey tone and rustic appearance. Ham Stone continues to be quarried to the present day from the scenic outcrop of Ham Hill which forms part of a 400 acre parkland within 5 miles of The Barn. Together with the sense of community which prevails in the village, Merriott is an ideal holiday destination for local tourism. There are many walks which pass through the village (the River Parrett Trail being one) and a major cycle route wends it's way through Merriott on a circular tour of South Somerset.

The village boasts 2 pubs, a pottery, a farm shop, a coffee shop (fresh bread available daily) a 13th century church and many ancient buildings which give it an unrivalled and aesthetic charm. In addition there is a Co-operative convenience store, a butchers, a pharmacy and a petrol station (including a Post Office).

There are many picturesque villages throughout South Somerset and crossing the county boundary into either Dorest or East Devon opens the gateway to the Jurassic Coast which is a Unesco World Heritage site. The nearest coastal town is West Bay which has been utilised as the main film location for the BBC drama series, Broadchurch. The traditional resort of Lyme Regis is 18 miles from Merriott which allows The Barn to be the perfect location to visit the historical coast as well as the major tourist attractions further inland. There are many National Trust properties within a short drive from the village.
