About the property

300 yr oldHoliday cottage in Shropshire Hills ideal for Ironbridge and

Firstly OD list this property to be in Coalbrookdale. That is 3 miles away. This cottage is semi rural. Also as at 5/3/18 the photos are being brought up to date. If you require more to view please feel free to ask.

We have for the last 7 years let this holiday cottage and after renting an Owners Direct apartment ourselves we signed up with O.D. Our aim is to provide you with information to help you decide that the cottage is right for you. Previous guests have advised us of their stay and many have returned.

The holiday cottage which is pet free and no smoking status is a semi detached 300 year old grade 2 listed building set up from the road ( See Below) with its own access through landscaped gardens to include a very unique BBQ area with seating. Apart from the cottage next door(owners) there are no immediate neighbours. We are on hand for any issues including advice on local places to visit but we leave you alone to get on with your holiday time. There is an uninterrupted view of the Wrekin Hill and the cottage has fields to the rear and side.

Old with oak beams but with all modern amenities. The downstairs bathroom has a modern powerful shower (Separate cubicle) and a cast iron roll top bath. Upstairs in the large bedroom there is a modern basin.

Double glazed and centrally heated throughout meaning a cosy place to come 'home' to in the cooler months and well insulated to be cool inside when the weather outside is warm. There is a log burning stove for those extreme cool conditions.

The cottage was part of the owner's property but when the children fled the cottage was separated and is now back to the original set up being 2 cottages.

The furnishings are a mix of modern and antique. Upstairs is fully carpeted and downstairs the modern kitchen and living room has top quality travertine floor tiling.

The price includes all towels linen and logs. Plenty of kitchen utensils and supplies. You will not need to bring kitchen items as it will all be provided. A minimum of tea coffee and milk provided and for those guests staying a week we add bread butter and eggs.

During peak summer time we have a minimum of 7 days stay starting Saturdays.

Please note that the property is situated back from an A road. It is not a trunk road but can be busy at peak times. More information is available if needed.

There are steps to the cottage. Not mountainous but steps all the same. For guests with walking difficulties a level entrance can be provided.

About The Owner

My wife Rachel and I (Mike) have enjoyed this cottage to bring up our children who have all fled. We have renovated this old cottage from top to bottom and we still do more each year. Rachel is an ex nurse and special needs teacher where she displayed her care for children and help them enjoy the world of arts and crafts.

Me. A retired ex banking manager of the old variety.

The garden is about a quarter of an acre on the holiday let side. Toddler secure and many patios for adults to relax

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1979

Why The Owner chose Telford

Its old world charm with modern facilities. Very cosy in the winter and airy in the summer. Some unique features to include a BBQ area like no other. This cottage has been available since 2011 and we used mainly our own website. Owners Direct only since October 2016 and we are confident that guests from OD will enjoy the property as our many prior guests have commented upon.

What makes this cottage unique

Parking for 2 cars off road. Own entrance and own private patios and garden

Past guests have said it is a home from home with some saying better than.

All facilities and amenities to include a cot and high chair( and a potty and changing mat). Enjoy the powerful shower and the cast iron roll top bath,

The cottage is very convenient to visit the many delights of Shropshire.

Please note that the road can be busy during peak times

Homely, welcoming and perfect location

  • 5 of 5

The property is wonderful, not just because it is so well placed to visit such a wide range of places but also because of the beautifully maintained and decorated nature of the property. So comfortable and relaxing with lovely gardens and views. Mike and Rachel really care about the place as it is part of their family home and it continues to feel like that. Even though they are next door, the property has complete privacy and loads of space. They are incredibly thoughtful, have equipped the cottage superbly and provide excellent information about the area. We really strongly recommend this property and very much hope to return some day - certainly if we return to the area we will make sure we stay here.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your comments about the cottage and us! We certainly hope that you stay again and hopefully people that you recommend. Our main aim is for guests to have a special holiday or break that they enjoy coming back to the cottage after days out to the many nearby attractions. Thank you once again but still more to do. best wishes Rachel and Mike

A delightful cottage beautifully modernised and immaculately maintained, full of lovely artistic touches. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen has everything you could possibly want. The views from both sides are lovely and the gardens a treat even in October. The owners are very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive and we arrived to milk and bread and fresh flowers - a lovely touch. The only drawback is that although the cottage is in the country, it is on the A road between Telford and Much Wenlock so there is traffic noise in the garden and front bedroom especially. However, judging by the visitors' book, this doesn't bother a lot of people as many have stayed in the cottage more than once.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments. We do try to make your stay as enjoyable as possible by making the cottage somewhere pleasant to return to. The road at peak times can be busy and we are looking at soundproofing fencing and perhaps triple glazing as opposed to double. Thank you again for being perfect guests

We really enjoyed the situation and the appointments of the cottage it is full of very well detailed

  • 5 of 5

We loved the position and ease acccesibilty to other parts of the county. The gardens are a particular feature. The appointments of the cottage in all ways are both quirky and comfortable we loved the views from the back bedroom over the fields to the woods with the cattle and bird life.

Not to mention Buffy the cat who was a constant companion. Overall we really enjoyed our stay so much we have booked for next year.
