Our Lakeland Barn is a great place to relax.
I am a music teacher. I love my job, but after a noisy week at work I like nothing better than to stay at The Barn and enjoy the peace and quiet in Garth Row, punctuated only by birds singing, lambs bleating and the occasional clip clop of horses hooves. I enjoy walking on the local fells, sailing on the lakes and visiting the Lakeland tea rooms.
Fran purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Fran chose Kendal
Garth Row is a great location for a property. It is far enough away from Kendal to feel very rural, but close enough to nip in to visit the shops, the restaurants and public houses and the cinema. The local fells are not busy as they are undiscovered by the majority of walkers. Many of the famous 'big' walks, the various lakes and towns and villages are easy to reach by car.
What makes this Cottage unique
I fell in love with this little barn on my first visit. I love the beautiful stone with which it is built and the thickness of the walls. The views onto the garden and surrounding countryside are lovely. It is a perfect location for a quiet and restful holiday, but only a few miles from the amenities of Kendal.

Lovely and Relaxing Lakeland Barn
We had a lovely holiday in Fran's fantastic Lakeland barn. The barn itself has been beautifully converted, and is in a very peaceful location, which is perfectly placed for visiting anywhere in the Lake District. The neighbours in the tiny village are very friendly, as are people, generally in the region.
The barn was very clean and is nicely furnished. The upstairs living room/kitchen, is lovely and light, due to the many skylight windows. The living space area is comfortable, with a very good TV, which includes Netflix etc. There is a modern gas fire (made to look like a real log fire), which would quickly heat up the room, if it was cold. There is, of course, also central heating. The kitchen had everything we needed. It also has the addition of a window looking out onto bird feeders in the garden (which you can re-fill, with supplies that Fran has in the house), and it's lovely to see many Blue Tits, Coal Tits, Chaffinch's, Robin's, happily feeding away. The garden is also very nice, by the way, and we enjoyed having our breakfast out in the sun, on a couple of the days we were there.
The bedroom is downstairs, and has a very comfortable bed. The bathroom has a good shower, though some people, if they are on the larger side, may find it slightly compact. It was absolutely fine for us though.
Fran gave us many suggestions for walks to do, and places to visit. There is a nice circular walk that can be done from the barn. There is a folder in the property that has many leaflets of different places to visit in the Lakes. There are also OS maps, which we found very useful for some of the walks we did. Locally, there are some good places to eat down in Kendal, and also the surrounding area. We really enjoyed the food at the Watermill Inn, in Ings, on the A591 heading towards Windermere. They serve excellent food, reasonably priced, and also have they're own great beers and ales, brewed on the premises. They serve food until 9pm, and there's no need to pre-book.
For other night time entertainment, there's Zeferelli's Cinema in Ambleside. Make sure you know the screen your film is on, as they have three seperate locations in town. They also have an excellent vegetarian restaurant, and you can get film and meal deals. For theatre lovers, there's the Theatre on the Lake, in Keswick. We saw a very good production there.
Anyway, we can definitely recommend staying in Fran's lovely barn. Hopefully we'll be able to return.

Long Weekend Break
We stayed at The Barn from Sunday through to Wednesday and were very pleased with what we found! The Barn is situated in Kendall, a short distance from Windermere where we spent most of our time on the lake. The views were exquisite, amazing weather and plenty of water sports based activities to do!
The Barn itself is cosy and the perfect size for two. Fran was a great host, especially considering we didn’t know the area, she was very accommodating with suggestions of things to do and places to visit. Fran also left some lovely goodies and was very friendly - would definitely recommend to friends and family!
Perfect base for a relaxing short break
We were really lucky to find this little gem of a property . It had everything we needed and an ideal location too - which made relaxing so much easier. Fran was really welcoming and easy to get hold of if needed - plus the welcome goodies were an appreciated treat! Overall we had a lovely stay at The Barn, our only regret is not being able to stay for longer! Will definitely have to make a return visit.
Lovely wee barn
