Family and pet friendly 6 bedroom farmhouse in Dartmoor National Park, Devon

Bedrooms 6
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Extremely spacious house with walled garden in a peaceful hamlet

Higher Westcott farm is a 300 year old granite walled Devon longhouse, located in Dartmoor National Park, 3 miles from Moretonhamsptead. Westcott is a traditional English hamlet set in surrounding countryside, ancient woodland and rolling hills, 1,000 feet above sea level.

The house has been designed to offer a contemporary but still traditional environment, focusing on comfort and style, with wood burning stove and leather sofas.

Filled with sunshine in the morning and evenings with family and friends or just a book for company, the lounge offers leather sofas, tub chairs and window seats in which to enjoy a drink and the views.

Dining Room

Filled with sunshine in the morning or lit with candles at night this cosy room features a huge stone fireplace and a bespoke square oak dining table.

The stylish rooms feature sumptuous beds, Egyptian cotton and duck down duvets and window seats. Each room is a mix of old and new with exposed beams, double ended bath and a huge cherub mirror. Large recessed showers, en suite bathrooms and natural stone.

The Garden

Higher Westcott's south facing walled garden offers stunning views of the countryside and woods. During the day children are safe to play on the lawn without wandering off and at night it's a wonderful place to watch the stars.

Sam and I own 2 properties here on Dartmoor. Higher westcott farm and Weeke Barton. We moved here from London in 2007 to set up our family and new business in the countryside. We haven't looked back since. It is an amazing place to live, work and play.

Why JO GOSSETT chose Exeter

We fell in love with Higher Westcott farm on first viewing. As we drove up the leafy lane we were excited to what we would discover. The house was a state but we could see the potential. It is a fabulous building with stories to tell and the hamlet is stunning. With wall to wall views and nothing but birds and sheep to hear.

Fantastic house. We will be back

  • 5 of 5

A lovely house set up with all you need. Set in a lovely location. Hosts gave lots of useful info and even left some welcome goodies.

Thoroughly recommend this place and we are already talking about when we can go back (we left yesterday!)

Fantastic house in a fantastic setting

  • 5 of 5

We were a family group of 8 adults and 2 children and there was plenty of space for all of us and more. We all very much enjoyed our stay, and there were lovely touches such as fresh Apple juice, cereal and butter left for us. They really have thought of everything in the house, and the children loved it. The garden was perfect for small games and we were able to walk up to the Torr easily. We will hope to visit again. Thank you very much.

Perfect country get away!

  • 5 of 5

I booked Higher Westcott as base for my family, my parents and Aunty visiting from Australia and parents in law to explore Devon. When we arrived at the farmhouse we were stunned at how big it was and how lovely the house is set up. Plenty of space for 11 of us (9 adults and 2 kids) to spend time there during the week and not be in each others way. It has been restored so well, Jo and her husband have done a fantastic job, and it has lots of it's old character but with the mod cons to have a comfortable holiday.

Jo was great on the lead up with directions and suggestions of where to eat out and answering all of my questions :)

We all loved it and would definitely come back again!

Lovely place for a weekend

  • 5 of 5

We held a weekend gathering for a group of friends who run a literary journal. The house was ideal for a balance between a meeting space and relaxed hanging out around the open fire.
