Detached 2 bedroom cottage with lake views

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

L’Angottiere sits in 14 acres of grounds and hosts a variety of wildlife including kingfishers, deer and if you are lucky enough to visit us at the right time of year some amazing dragon flies!

We are nestled in the beautiful region of Normandy and surrounded by rolling countryside and little more than farm animals and acres of Maize growing fields. We are easy to reach, just over an hour from Caen and St Malo and approximately only 4 hours from Calais.

PLEASE NOTE: The cottage has lake views, however, lake access is not available as it is rented out exclusively to Carp fisherman.

The fully equipped 2 double bedroom detached Gite can be found adjacent to the parking area and is situated only 50 yards from the lake. One of the bedrooms has 2 single beds and the other is a double. Bed linen is provided.

The living room has 2 sofas (1 is a sofa bed), English TV and a log burner for those chilly evenings.

The kitchen/diner with seating for 6 is well equipped with oven, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, plus of course all the utensils, crockery and cutlery you need.

Upstairs there is a shower room with basin and toilet.

There is Wifi, English television, a DVD player as well as some films. You will also find a selection of books plus brochures of the surrounding area including local places of interest and restaurants.

Outside there is garden space with a furnished patio and barbecue.

The head height is restricted in places and the stairs are quite steep so the Gite is not really suitable for those with mobility problems and giants!

PLEASE NOTE: Only children aged 12 years and over are accepted.

Lovely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Jasmin cottage is a lovely place to stay in rural western Normandy. The rooms were clean and tidy with homely touches. The lounge has little natural light so is a little dark, however with the log burner alight it's warm and toasty in no time. The kitchen is a good size for the property and has all necessary equipment for self catering. The bedrooms are light and the beds comfortable. There is plenty of hot water and a good working shower. A downside would be the stairs ,care needs to be taken because of their steep and slightly irregular treads.

Graham and Claire made us very welcome , we recommend taking advantage of their catering in the barn, if you don't want to cook.

We had a good visit and would not hesitate to return.

We are in an area that has lots of places to visit and see. Here are a few of our favourites -

MONT SAINT MICHEL (about a 50 minute drive) - A world Heritage site and probably the most famous landmark in Normandy. There is a beautiful Abbey at the top of the winding streets. A good choice of restaurants although touristy so can be more expensive and very busy at peak times.

SAINT MALO (about 1 hr 15 minute drive) - A beautiful coastal town with a great beach and lovely old town.

CANCALE (about 1 hr 15 miutes drive) A small, pretty coastal town crammed with seafood restaurants. If you love seafood pay this town a visit for a plate of Fruit De Mer or enjoy the fresh oysters from the market on the harbour wall (a good tip is to take your own bottle of wine to enjoy them with. That's what the locals seem to do!)

NORMANDY LANDING BEACHES ( about 1 hr 15 minutes drive) - A 50 mile stretch of Normandy coast with beautiful beaches and lots of museums and war memorabilia. Our favourite was the 360 degrees circular cinema at Arromanches. It tells you the whole story of the war in about 20 minutes and is a good starting point to get your bearings if you intend to visit a few of the Landing sites. Make sure you don't miss the American war cemetary in Colleville Sur Mer.

GRANVILLE (about a 50 minutes drive) A chic coastal town with a Casino and boutique shops. The coast south of Granville is lovely with large wide empty beaches. Jullouville is our favourite.

RENNES (about 1 hr 15 minutes drive) The capital city of Brittany. A lovely old city with loads of restaurants and bars.

CAEN (about 1 hr 10 minutes drive) The big Chateau in the city centre is surrounded by good restaurants. The Memorial de Caen is a museum dedicated to World War 2 and the Battle of Caen.

FOUGERES (50 minutes drive) Large town with a castle, restaurants, bars and a large Saturday market.

CLECY (1 hours drive) Beautiful river setting with riverside restaurants, nice walks, canoeing, rock climbing and a 350 metre zip wire for the adventurous!

Closer to Home

GATHEMO (1 mile away) Our local village with a friendly bar/shop and a Boulangerie (Bakery) for baguettes and cakes. Both closed on Mondays.

SOURDEVAL (10 minute drive away) A bigger town with shops and a couple of restaurants and bars. There are 2 small supermarkets (similar to Tesco Express) and a petrol station.

VIRE (15 minutes drive) Our main big town with plenty of restaurants and bars. There are several large supermarkets including Le Clerc, Carrefour and Lidl.

MORTAIN (20 minutes drive) Visit the lovely Waterfalls. Great for walks and to take a picnic (Grand and Petite Cascades).

SAINT HILAIRE DU HARCOUET (30 minutes drive) Large town with a good choice of restaurants and bars. There is a big market on Wednesday mornings.

VILLEDIEU LES POELES (25 minutes drive) Known as the 'City of Copper'. A pretty tourist town famous for its copper production. A good choice of restaurant and bars and a large, lively market on a Tuesday morning.

Please Note: Supermarkets are closed on Sundays apart from the two in Soudeval and Carrefour in Vire which are open Sundays mornings
