Perfectly situated in one of the most beautiful seaside towns in Devon, Friday Cottage is quietly tucked away right in the centre of Salcombe in Robinsons Row, a pedestrian alley, just off picturesque Fore Street and within just a few steps of Salcombe's array of boutique shops, pubs, galleries and waterfront. The famous harbour and estuary, popular with sailors and other water sports enthusiasts, is within 2 minute’s walk from the cottage, whilst the magnificent beaches of East Portlemouth and Millbay can be reached via a small passenger ferry that runs from the quay throughout the year.
The cottage is a fully refurbished, stone-built fisherman's cottage, dating from the 18th century and is available to rent for just a limited number of weeks each year. It is centrally-heated, cosy and comfortable and has been tastefully furnished and equipped to a high standard. It is a home for all seasons.
No smoking and we are sorry that PETS ARE NOT permitted.
The cottage sleeps 6 with two bathrooms. A stable door leads directly from the covered porch into the spacious modern kitchen/diner. The kitchen is well planned and presented and features grey granite worktops, an integrated dishwasher, electric hob & oven and a generous fridge/freezer. Emma Bridgewater crockery (and her melamine for the beach) is the order of the day and there is numerous practical equipment - thermos flasks, cool bags and even a Weber beach BBQ to help you make the most of the outdoors. The adjacent dining area has a generous oak table & chairs and French doors lead to the rear garden and lower terrace where a new Bridgman table and matching (cushioned) chairs make for luxury dining outdoors. There are winding steps to two further light and airy terraces where you can relax within the characterful stone walls surrounding most of the garden.
From the dining area, one doorway leads to a compact mosaic-tiled shower room & downstairs cloakroom and a passageway beneath the stairs leads into the elegant living room with its two beautiful sofas, leather chair, a cosy wood-burning stove, large flat screen TV, games cupboard and characterful tongue and grooved wall panelling. Practical hard flooring is laid in the kitchen to allow for welly boots and sandy feet but in the rest of the cottage there is natural Sisal Malay carpet by Alternative Flooring with a rug by Roger Oates in the living room for added comfort. Soft furnishings throughout are by new designer Sarah Hardaker.
Narrow stairs lead up to the upper floor with a well-proportioned family bathroom (with shower, corner bath and WC) . The three light-filled bedrooms all benefit from lovely views over the pretty tree-filled garden to the rear or over gardens towards the old stone church at the front. Luxury cotton bedlinen by Lexington and towels etc can be supplied at extra cost and blackout lining in all bedroom curtains make for lazy lie-ins.
The main bedroom features a brand new VI Spring 5ft 6"+king bed, fitted cupboards a vintage painted table and a hand basin. Next to this is the twin room with two 3ft comfortable beds, a fitted cupboard, an antique bedside table and a painted chest of drawers in the characterful and historic bay window. The third bedroom benefits from an elegant adult-sized sleigh bunk bed with Vi Spring mattresses for added comfort. A fitted wardrobe, Lloyd loom arm chair and vintage pine table complete the room.
A cupboard on the landing houses the combi- boiler (for constant hot water supply), an integrated washing machine/drier for emergency use and a drying rack, iron & ironing board.
There is a lovely large garden to the rear complete with a Weber BBQ, deck chairs and a big lawn. The garden has separate access through a 'hidden' door in the wall if you wish to store your own small dinghy/canoe during your stay and there are distant estuary views from the top of the garden.
PLEASE NOTE Strictly no smokers or pets permitted. Very small children will need supervision, as the garden has steep steps, and as a family home the cottage is unsuitable for groups of unaccompanied teenagers.
Parking is available at nearby car parks and you can buy a weekly permit.
