About Julie Taylor

We moved to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales at the end of 2015, having lived in London for more than 40 years. Paul is an artist and has a gallery in Hawes and Julie is a director of a company. We purchased The Apothecary's House in November 2015 and have spent a year refurbishing the property. The property has been ready as a holiday let since January 2017. We are hoping that people will enjoy, as much as we do, The Apothecary's House.

Julie Taylor purchased this house in 2015

Why Julie Taylor chose Askrigg

We fell in love with this property due to its idyllic location, its original features and the history of the Apothecary's House.

What makes this house unique

The Apothecary has been completely refurbished but has still retained some of its original features. There is an original stone staircase, wooden doors and exposed beams.

Best Holiday House Ever!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from an amazing family holiday at The Apothecary's House where we celebrated my 66th birthday and my daughter and son in law's 11th wedding anniversary. What a brilliant time we had!! The house is perfect for a large family group. There were 8 adults and our two 3 year old grandchildren. The house is spacious and beautifully furnished with an extremely well equipped kitchen and very comfortable beds. To have 3 ensuite rooms plus an extra bathroom and separate downstairs toilet was amazing! The garden is lovely and was perfect to sit out in while the children played safely. Sadly we only had one day when it was warm enough to do so but in good weather it would be perfect. The little ones also enjoyed the playground behind the church opposite the house. Askrigg is a lovely village and we particularly enjoyed the pub meals in The Crown and The White Rose where they made us feel very welcome. Humble Pie provided us with delicious cakes and amazing meals which could be heated up at the house. Askrigg is a perfect base for days out as there are lots of interesting places to visit nearby. Thank you very much to Julie for all her help and for the welcome pack which was very much appreciated. The little ones were very sad to leave the house on the last morning and the big folk were too! No doubt about it, we will return one day! Carol Alexander and family from Cheshire.

A beautiful house in a lovely location!

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautifully furnished and excellently equipped! It was warm and welcoming - the perfect place for a large family holiday. Comfy beds, lovely bedding and towels and luxurious bathrooms. It was a pleasure to cook in the kitchen and relax in the lounges.

Lovely walks from the door and amenities literally on the doorstep!

The property is excellent and very well equipped. and central to the village

  • 5 of 5

The property is well presented with excellent accommodation in good sized rooms. Being in the village centre it conveys being part of a community rather than the feeling of isolation which can be the case with some properties in the area.

The weather was unpredictable but there are many places to visit which can be good in sun, rain or wind. The latter was a little vigorous as storm Ophelia went through!

Immaculate and cosy

  • 5 of 5

Lovely location and extremely well kitted out with everything we needed. Very attractive inside and out, and cosy. 3 pubs and a shop in the village which were very useful. Beautiful area with plenty of activities for families nearby. The owner Julie was very helpful and kind. We had a super holiday.

Lovely Visit

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in this lovely cottage could not have been better. It is in a fantastic location in a beautiful village. There are 3 pubs/restaurants within a short walk - we enjoyed them all. We loved the Humble Pie tea shop for breakfast, lunch and everything in between! There is a small park for kids behind the church across the street and an even bigger one in the next village (Bainbridge). We got an impromptu tour by the owners at the Yorkshire Dales Brewing Co, Ltd. just down the hill - the Askrigg Ale and other beers can be found at the pubs in town and in the little shop next door (which was also great for picking up basic groceries and getting advice on where to go for the best walks). There was a fish and chips van in the village square on Wednesday night (I think). The artist Judith Bromley lives in town and you can visit her gallery/buy prints (we have purchased 4 over the past many years). So many great walks start in or go through Askrigg - you will not be disappointed. There is a very nice garden with tables and chairs to enjoy the view. The cottage was very clean and well-equipped. Hope others have the opportunity to make wonderful memories here as we did ... please just make sure to leave a week open for us sometime down the road. :-)

Brilliant high quality accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful place for a winter stay. So comfortable and clean with top quality furnishings throughout. Plenty of games books and DVD for the days we wanted to curl up and stay put. 2 sitting areas meant we could spread out and not feel we were falling over each other. 2 pubs both serving good food and nice walks out and around the village. Bakery and shop just along the road. Not far from Hawes. The peace and quiet of the house was very welcome for us and we enjoyed every minute there.
