Great location and experience!

  • 5 of 5

Property was clean and spacious for two adults plus our 17 month old. Rick and Tam were so friendly and loved having our child running and playing in the large gated yard. Short walk to the beach was great. Window A/C unit was wonderful surprise to have and use. Bed was comfy and small kitchen space was enough for us! Easy walking into town, which was awesome. Would highly recommend!!!!!

Great Cottage close to a Gorgeous Beach

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was Hawaiian themed and very comfortable & clean. It has everything you need! You get a wonderful breeze and can hear the ocean waves in the distance. A parrot occasionally flies by to say hello. The neighborhood is upscale and it is a short 50 yard walk to the beach down a neighborhood path. The beach exceeded all expectations, it was clean with white sand and you can take long walks in either direction. There is a small market close by that has great coffee and sandwiches. Kailua is a really cute beach town and was the perfect destination spot. The owners, Rick and Tam, were extremely nice and gave us great tips on places to visit. Overall - excellent!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the wonderful words to help our other potential visitors decide on a place to stay. My wife and I simply love it hear and want to share our paradise location with others. The neighbor's parrot, or technically a Macaw, graces our skies with beautiful flight and a very distinctive call. He does not like to be alone! The beach is beautiful and we are very conveniently located to the local beach deli for morning brew or lunch. Thank you again for your wonderful review and thank you for your card, note, and gift. Very thoughtful! We always give discounts to returning visitors on their next visit!

Great time in Kailua

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Great location with just a quick walk down the path to the beach. The cottage was super clean and we loved the casual Hawaiian décor and vibe. We had everything we needed there. It was nice to have the off street parking as well. The location was close to the little market down the street and several restaurants nearby. We enjoyed meeting Rick and Tam and they were great resources for things to do and see.

Very Pleasant Experience

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the Kekailoa Cottage very much and found the description of the posting to be accurate. The property was very clean and quite well maintained; there were plenty of towels, including beach towels; the washer and dryer are located in the unit and were good quality; and the bed was very comfortable; the coffee maker worker perfectly (very important).

The area, just north of Hanalei, is remote and towards the end of the road; there is a coffee shop and restaurant within walking distance, but we bought groceries and coffee in Kapa'a, and the two major grocery stores in Hanalei (one being a health food store). One surprise hit was Sushi Girl (about 1.5 miles south), just a small take out with wonderful rolls, but the sushi burrito was the kicker.

The proximity to the ocean (and the relative isolation) was the selling point for me; while you're not ocean front (although you definitely hear the ocean at night), the walk is only about two minutes away down a beach path a couple house down the road. At this point you're and at a beautiful beach with practically no one around, but also just a short walk down the beach to Tunnels Beach (the safer for swimming in my opinion) and a little further to Ha'ena Beach Park with some grassy areas to relax and spend the day.

There is a larger house on the property, but it didn't seem to affect our solitude. The owner was very responsive during the booking and check in process, but we had no reason to contact them during our stay.

I would definitely recommend this place to others who are seeking peace and quiet; and north shore beech access without the crowds. I hope to be back next year.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review, but I think you are referring to the wrong property. Kekailoa Cottage is located Beachside in Kailua on windward Oahu. Not near Hanalei, which is on north shore of Kauai. Future guests please do not become confused. Aloha, Rick

Awesome location. Friendly, hospitable hosts

  • 5 of 5

Rick and Tam were great hosts and very friendly. When we arrived Rick met us out front and showed us around the property and answered any questions we had, we spoke a few times with both Rick & Tam during our stay, they always showed genuine concern that we were happy with the rental. Unfortunately, we were so busy during our stay that we weren't able to spend as much time visiting as we would have liked.

The cottage was stocked with plenty of towels and was very clean and as described in the listing. The kitchenette was nice to have to be able to have our own groceries and avoid having to eat out so much. The bed was comfortable and our 10 year old son slept comfortable on the futon. Some beach toys, boogie boards and beach chairs were available to use as we needed. You may be able to snap some pictures of the macaws that live nearby. The main house has an outside shower (with both hot & cold) which can be used to rinse any sand off when returning from the beach. The house & cottage are located in a secure, gated yard. We were able to park our rental car and not worry about anything happening to it.

The highlight of the property for us was the close proximity to the beach, with a 2 minute walk it made it very easy to walk down for an hour or two. The beach was never overly busy, it seemed to be mainly people walking their dogs, or other small families relaxing. Nothing like the busy beaches at the resorts. The water was fairly calm, enough small waves that our son could have fun on his boogie board, but calm enough that you could wade around in the water if you like.

The restaurants in town get quite busy on the weekend, if you are planning on going out to eat you may want to head out early or make a reservation. During the week was not an issue however.

We would stay here again without hesitation and would recommend it to anyone looking for a rental in Oahu.

Beachside in Kailua

  • 5 of 5

We just returned home from a twelve night stay at Kekailoa Cottage. The property was perfect for my husband and me. The location is unbeatable with easy and close access to a beautiful beach. My son, who lives on Oahu, was amazed at our proximity to one of Oahu's best beaches. The cottage was very comfortable and clean. The kitchenette is tiny, but it worked for us. Tam was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We felt like we were among friends, but we were given space and privacy. We really appreciated the use of beach chairs, towels, boogie boards and an ice chest. It was an easy drive to explore the rest of the island and we certainly did. I highly recommend this property. Four stars on property rating were for lack of a stove (I think that's due to local law and a hot plate and grill were provided) and a small shower. I would definitely stay again and have already referred it to a friend.

Owner's Response: Kekailoa Cottage has an unbroken string of five star reviews. We take pride in that accomplishment and go the extra mile to make sure our visitors are happy and their needs fulfilled. This is all in keeping with the legality of local regulations. The 500 Sq ft studio necessarily means some accommodations may not be as large as in normal size homes. All features of the cottage are discussed on our website to let folks know upfront what to expect. In our next renovations, expanding the bathroom is on the list but the large walkin cloaet may need to give up some space. We always improve the cottage as funds become available. Rick & Tam
