About Barry and Dawn Harris
Barry and I have lived in Stinson Beach for quite a while, Barry, for about 25 years, having been born and raised in Canada, then moving to Hawaii, then here. I have lived in Stinson/Bolinas for 50 years, am 5 generations from Marin County, with my father's family roots going back 5 generations in Hawaii. We love traveling. Barry has traveled extensively throughout Asia, and I having lived and worked in Kenya, Somalia, and visited The Dem. Republic of Congo. Barry and I love living in Stinson Beach. We have turned what was once a Willow Camp tent platform (the original dwelling structures in Stinson, then a Pilates Studio for me to teach), into a sweet, charming, romantic get-away. Of all the places we could live, we find our happiness here in Stinson Beach. We hope our guests will find The Cottage, and Stinson Beach, as special as we do.
Why Barry and Dawn Harris chose Stinson Beach
Once you see the location of this property you will know why we choose to stay in Stinson Beach. It has everything. We can be reclusive. We can walk on the beach in the dark of the morning; there are no words for the feeling of standing on the beach, seeing the moon glistening like mercury on the silken peeling waves. The hiking trails are our 'workouts', and our meditations. It is the best community to be a part of. There are lots to do if one wants to get involved, and many ways to stay quiet and peaceful.
What makes this Cottage unique
Stinson Beach has hiking trails that go on and on and on. Really, one could hike to Oregon from here. Depending on the trail of one's choosing, one could hike up and up for hours, or traverse, or bomb downhill. There are fern-lined trails, redwoods, creeks all along the way--waterfalls and bridges. Depending on one's choice of trails, there are vistas of the ocean the whole way, or canopies of trees. And then there is the equivalent of those trails for mountain bikers. Traveling North from here is Pt. Reyes National Seashore, and the great, fun town of Pt. Reyes--with fabulous stores, restaurants, and bakery. A little further and there is the wine country...and Mendocino. Of course, traveling in the other direction, is San Francisco, just across the GG Bridge. No need to tell you about that beautiful City. Hiking, biking, kayaking, surfing, walking on the beach... just to name of few of the things that make Stinson Beach so wonderful. As far as the Beach Cottage goes: It is just very special. Something about it. Everyone falls in love with it. It is small (600 square ft). impeccably clean--having just been restored--so all newly painted (if not replaced) walls, floors, completely rebuilt bathroom with beautiful Italian glass tile floor. The cottage is fresh, sweet, romantic, tranquil, cozy and inviting. We love it, and it brings us so much joy that all of our guests have expressed that they love it too. We hope you will.

Quiet retreat at the beach
Perfect location to the beach. Quiet neighborhood. If you are looking for a quiet retreat this is perfect. Within walking distance to hiking trails, groceries, and restaurants (must have the buffalo ice cream at the Siren). If you are looking for more of a beach party scene I wouldn’t recommend this location. Owners keep the property immaculate. Highly recommended for anniversaries and romantic getaways.
My wife and I had such a fantastic time in this cottage. The location is perfect for access to the beach as well as access to local hiking. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. We had spent the previous week in San Francisco and both agree that the relaxation of the cottage was the perfect getaway.
Peaceful and Quaint
Dawn was so warm and communicative both prior to our stay and while we were there. She and Barry show true consideration of what would make their guests most comfortable. The layout of the property made it easy and accessible to move from outdoors to indoors and vice versa.
My husband and I enjoyed making s'mores outside in their fire pit. In the shower, the water pressure was more than sufficient to shampoo the smokey scent out of my thick, long hair!
The heaters in the bedroom and the kitchen made it nice and cozy when we got up in the morning. We also enjoyed hearing the steady rumble of waves outside our window. The beach is super close and accessible.
Dawn, I loved all the details and collections you have added to the cottage over time. The colorful flowers, the sea shells, the artwork, the outdoor swing... It was truly a special getaway!

Great location. Charming cottage
We really enjoyed our stay; steps from the beach, a short walk to restaurants. We didnt have to get back in the car for anything (except a superb restaurant in Inverness). The garden provides lovely privacy and protection from wind when things go that way. Highly reccommended.
Perfect beach cottage
The cottage was very well done, and perfectly organized. It’s only a few steps to the sand, short walk to restaurants, and very peaceful and relaxing. Can’t wait to return.
Third Visit to the Cottage
There's a reason I came back for a third time. This is the perfect get away for me. Limited connectivity, beautiful setting, wonderful hosts. Really gives you down time if that's your goal. Great places to eat/drink and the beach a few steps away. I'll definitely be back for a 4th visit!!!
Muir Woods is on the way to Stinson Beach--home of the giant Redwoods. It is now necessary to make reservations to get into Muir Woods. However: You can hike in from Stinson Beach--a 10-mile round trip hike.
The tour of Alcatraz is another activity available- it also requires reservations.
