A holiday home with a unique difference... peace and quiet!!

Orchard View is a well equipped property with lovely views of the South Hams countryside. The property has ample parking for 2-3 cars and has a full sized table tennis table in the outhouse. There is a king and 2 twin bedded rooms, a bathroom with a walk in shower, a lounge with a wall mounted tv and woodburner, a kitchen with a separate dining area and a lovely peaceful garden. It also has WIFI.

About Anthony Downes

Anthony and I (Sarah) stumbled across this idyllic location when we were camping one year. In a moment of madness we decided to keep our eye out for a house in Kellaton. Fortunately this property became available and so we embarked on a mad 10 month crusade to completely transform it. Our 3 very patient children were bundled in the car every Friday as we travelled from Bristol to Devon to then spend a weekend of serious DIY!!! The children loved every minute of it as the freedom of the countryside became their playground. They are now older and at universities but still enjoy the peace and quiet that our home gives us.

Excellent Christmas break

Excellent holiday home ideally located and very well equipped. Good access to south west coast path. We enjoyed a lovely family Christmas. Sarah and Anthony provided good local information on places to visit. They also ensured we had all we needed for us to enjoy a lovely Christmas at Orchard View including the house being decorated with a Chtristmas tree and decorations and provided logs for the wood burner and a welcome pack. Great that there was also a full sized table tennis table for the boys. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Five Stars!

Over the years, we've stayed in dozens of cottages and Hallsands is right at the top!

We were made exceptionally welcome, through both friendly emails and thoughtful phone calls from Anthony and Sarah before and during our visit. The cottage is spacious, clean, well-equipped and feels like a home, not a hotel apartment. The location was perfect for us, with many great coastal walks, coves and beaches available.... with or without the car! We were lucky, with brilliant weather, but even if it had been persistently grotty Hallsands has enough room for six people to do their own thing, including table tennis tournaments.

We recommend this cottage wholeheartedly.

The Cricket Inn, Beesands
Car: necessary

South Hams is a beautiful district to explore. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful hamlet within South Hams. By walking out of our gate we can stroll through the country lanes to Lannacombe beach which is great for rock pooling. There are plenty of beaches locally, Mill Bay, Beesands and Blackpool Sands to name just a few. A short passenger ferry ride from East Portlemouth to Salcombe is a must! Salcombe is one of our favourite places to visit as we like to stroll along the coastal path to the Winking Prawn Beach Cafe. Dartmouth is also a lovely place to visit. If you enjoy visiting National Trust properties Coleton Fishacre, Greenways and Overbecks are lovely and are great for children. We are fortunate to have wonderful coastal walks directly from our property. From Lannacombe beach you can walk left to Start Point Lighthouse and right towards Prawle Point and beyond. There is a wonderful restaurant/cafe called Garra Rock which is on the coastal path. You can drive to it or as we do, walk from either Prawle, East Portlemouth or take the coastal path from Mill Bay.

There are lovely places to eat locally, the Start Bay Inn at Torcross, the Cricket Inn at Beesands and the Church House Inn at Stokenham. We have ventured further afield to a great seafood restaurant towards Bigbury called the Oyster Shack which is great! All in all, there is so much to enjoy either from our door or a short drive away. Our visitors book is always full of great suggestions of fundays our guests have had.
