We rented the Frari apartment for 7 nights in October 2009 having already stayed there for 7 nights in October 2008. (This being our fourth visit to Venice.)
Obviously the fact that we returned to apartment shows how much we enjoyed our first stay and this time we did not even consider trying for any other apartment when we knew it was available. Mainly two reasons we chose to return to the apartment -
Firstly, Gabriella. Her hospitality is way above anything else we have encountered on vacation. For example, this time on arrival we were due to meet her at San Toma vaporetto stop at midnight, enough of an inconvenience in itself. She quite readily agreed to this. Unfortunately due to a flight delay it was at least 2 am when we eventually arrived there. However, Gabriella, gracious and unfazed as ever, still met us to escort us to the apartment. In the apartment waiting for us there were refreshments and food in a basket and in the fridge. Did we enjoy the chilled bottle of Prosecco and nourishment? It seemed like a feast after our journey. And we continued to enjoy the provisions throughout the rest of the week.
She kept in touch throughout our stay, checking on how we were doing and offering advice if needed in her helpful, unobtrusive manner. Even small but nevertheless important details - for example, one morning when it was raining, she texted to let us know where an umbrella was stored. From experience of renting apartments, you can sometimes feel isolated and wonder where you can get assistance if required. Gabriella gave us a feeling of security we have not had other places. (Extra sets of keys were provided without asking – other times we have been given only 1 set.)
This is a great and very special place to stay and we enjoyed it very much; it is perfectly located and has everything you need and so much more (the roof-terrace is a dream).
We had a very warm and friendly welcome, the appartement was very clean and was exactly like advertised.
We can recommend it and hope to come back again in the future!
Have just spent a wonderful festive break in this lovely apartment. We were very kindly met at the San Toma vapporetto stop by Gabriella and taken to the very comfortable, warm and well appointed apartment. We could not have asked for a better location and I loved getting up every morning to look out the window at Frari Cathedral. My top tips would be visit Pasticceria Tonolo which is just round the corner for morning espresso and brioche,I loved taking the San Toma traghetto
back and fore across the Grand Canal,Fortuny museum was fascinating and I learned such a lot, visit the Klimt in the Ca'Pesaro and have coffee on the grand canal terrace, take a lovely walk down to the Punta della Dogona via Peggy Guggenheim's wee pad and stop in at the Corner Pub for a warm welcome and a hot Wine or Aperol spritz. We had a wonderful time and I loved staying in your apartment.Grazie Mille Gabriella!
We stayed for 7 nights and were delighted with the quality of the apartment and the location, as well as how helpful and welcoming Gabriella was. The apartment is beautifully finished with character and restored with lovely traditional beams etc. There is more than enough space for 2 (you could probably comfortably fit at least 4!) with a fantastic roof terrace that was great to sit out and eat on in the evening. The apartment held all we could need for cooking for ourselves at home as well as guide books and umbrellas etc. for visiting. The location was great, right next to the church with the second tallest tower in Venice so easy to find your way back to. Gabriella was extremely helpful, she helped get us to the Frari church, met us and took us to the apartment and talked through everything. Furthermore, when we queried something a few days later she couldn't have been more helpful in coming back to see us to resolve it. We would definitely stay again and would highly recommend it to anyone else, fantastic value for money on top of everything else, thank you Gabriella!
The apartment is an absolute treasure. I’ve have stayed here several times, the last time in June this year. It is perfect for 2 or 3 people, with plenty of room, 2 (small) bathrooms and everything provided that one needs, including guide books, an ironing board, an umbrella, several sets of keys and even the welcoming prosecco. It is traditionally Venetian and very beautiful (And comfortable too). It is also very clean and well-maintained, so that you feel it is taken care of like a family home. The stairs to the roof terrace look a little daunting at first sight but it’s surprisingly easy to get used to them and the terrace itself with its stupendous views is worth the initial effort.
Gabriella is a generous and unobtrusively helpful host, always ready to answer questions and help solve problems.
The apartment is situated in one of the pleasantest areas of Venice. While all the famous sights are easily accessible on foot or by water-bus, it offers many corners of peace and quiet as well as a lively student quarter a few streets away and many good inexpensive restaurants and bars. It is literally next door to the Frari church and very near to the Scuola Grande di San Rocco.
It is a a short walk away from the Rialto bridge, perhaps twenty minutes to the Academia. The water-bus stop San Toma on the Grand Canal really is just a couple of minutes’ walk away - with no bridges - a great boon with luggage – on a direct route to Saint Mark’s Square, the Biennale park and the Lido with its beaches and walks. (Single journeys on the water-bus are expensive. It is definitely worth buying an actv tourist ticket for up to 7 days).
