About Lin or Howard Davis
The owners brought up their family in a small market town in Berkshire and St Columb Major reminds them of how their home town used to be when they were growing up. The owners have had over 10 years experience in the holiday let market and they also own a holiday let barn conversion in Summercourt and jointly owned with their 2 boys two holiday let seafront properties in Newquay.
Lin or Howard Davis purchased this Apartment in 1998
Why Lin or Howard Davis chose Saint Columb Major
We love this property for its history and character and the town reminds us of how our market town in Berkshire used to be. St Columb has some very beautiful architecture with the most amazing church that dates from the 14th century with a 15th century tower of four stages.
What makes this Apartment unique
Bonds House, the property, dates back to 1874 and has large gothic style windows. It is located in the conservation area of the small historic town of St Columb Major. The St Columb Major Carnival is well know in the area and is held the first week of August. In February the tradition hurling takes place which starts immediately in front of the property. Central heating available all year with washing machine/dryer, dishwasher. If you like walking you can begin a 7.3 circular walk along the Vale of Lanherne starting from the property. The walk follows footpaths and lanes along the edge of Vale of Lanherne to the hamlet of Lanvean. The route then descends into the valley and crosses the River Menalhyl to St Mawgan where the sanctuary light has been burning for hundreds of years in the 800 year old cloistered convent. The return route follows a path alongside the river through the broad leaf woodland of the Carnanton Estate on whose land a hoard of silver coins dating back to Elizabethan times and a huge Roman ingot of tin were found. A small lane leads back into the winding streets of St Columb Major.

Beautiful Architecture, terrible parking
I loved the location and architecture of the property. Unfortunately, there is no assigned parking. There, in street parking, but it is taxing.
The beds are really low to the floor. So, it was difficult if you had any injuries. Mattress was foam style. Not much support.
The kitchen is well equipped. Overall, I enjoyed our stay.
We are pleased that you loved the location and architecture we love it too but so sorry you found the parking taxing.
Whilst there is adequate car parking of both free and pay parking in St Columb as well as street parking using the car parks does mean you have the choice of either a short or long walk to the apartment but you do need to walk. Hopefully you noticed that you were able to load and unload directly outside the property and there is free street parking opposite.
St Columb is a very old quaint village and the villagers are proud of the way it is. Parking to them is not important and it must have been very different to your home town in Florida where I am sure parking is in abundance.
The mattresses are memory foam and of excellent quality however if you are unfamiliar with memory foam they would have felt very different to you. Memory foam moulds into your body for comfort and I am sorry you felt they did not support you. We are not aware that the beds are low they were purchased as standard height so we will certainly be looking into this. Thank you for pointing this out.
We hope that you enjoyed your trip to Cornwall and hope you have a safe journey back to the USA
A really lovely apartment. Clean, warm and very quiet. Perfect for our needs
Would recommend staying here. Easy to get to, a nice location and the apartment was modern, clean, had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Street parking was limited but was not an issue for us. As there was 5 of us, one more dining chair would have been good. Overall a really lovely apartment and we would definitely stay again. Thank you!
Historic and Quaint.
This was a nice place to rest after driving down from Scotland through Wales. Descriptions: spacious, unique, peaceful, private and good value for the price. The location was also perfect for us as we didn't want to pay seaside rates yet we drove to the coast and we hiked to Rough Tor in the Bodmin Moor.
Lovely accommodation, comfortable and enjoyable stay. A blessing to have the space to relax.
Enjoyable time and stay. Comfortable accommodation with good facilities and would be happy to come back again. Owners very thoughtful and helpful. St Columb Major interesting historical town, friendly people, good local shops and pubs with great character. Interesting places to visit nearby with beautiful scenery.
Clean and cosy, had a great time perfect for families.
Lovely comfortable apartment.. was a perfect place for us to stay for a couple of days. Very quiet even situated on the main road of the village. Co op just around the corner which sold practically everything.. very enjoyable stay.
The famous Eden Project is 20 min away and The lost gardens of Heligan 30 min. There is a very good regular bus service in the village to many surrounding towns and villages.
