We spent 6 nights at this rental and loved it. The pool is an absolute dream to have after a day of trekking around in the heat - and is a rare amenity in rentals in this area. It is located through a gate, at the end of the most adorable, colorful alleyway, with old cobblestones and rainbow stucco homes. The parking is not as tight as anticipated based on other reviews, and we think you could pretty easily get a small SUV in there if you needed to. After you park and enter through the gate, there is a lovely koi pond in front of the entry to the rental, with the swimming pool beyond the rental along the far wall. The rental itself is a converted coach house or similar, with two stories and tons of windows. The laundry is a huge perk, as were the kitchen and strong A/C. The only things that I might improve would be the shower toiletries - it wouldn't be insanely hard to source something a little more local or special (I forgot shampoo, so obviously looked at this right away) - and maybe de-clutter the space behind the house in case anyone wants to open the blinds up on that side. However, these are obviously not game changers. In the past, we have rented on the far east end of the peninsula, near the battery, which was a quiet, residential area. This is definitely in the middle of college town, but it is clearly an area that is in the midst of major revitalization, with lots of activity going on. We definitely felt safe walking around day and night. Both areas have their perks, but I think we would definitely choose to return to this rental in the future based on it being so close to everything (5 minutes to King Street and many amazing restaurants in all directions) and the swimming pool/courtyard area. Also, quick tip, there is a great coffee shop and bakery about a 1-minute walk west of the rental (take a left out of the alleyway), on St. Philip Street, called Brown's Court Bakery. Enjoy! :)
We stayed in the pool house for 2 nights. It was a nice little spot tucked away from the main drag. The pool was a bonus but the mosquitoes wouldn't allow us to enjoy it.... but it was nothing new for us, being from Memphis, TN. Other reviews mentioned the uncomfortable pull out mattress. I've never slept on a comfortable pull out sofa, so my expectations were such. For two nights it was fine. The parking is tight but pretty much all of Charleston is tight- so it's to be expected! We were rarely there because Charleston has so much to see but very much enjoyed our stay.
My husband was very happy with the property. He stated it was like entering a secret garden! Loved the outside area. The home itself was very nice. Our only problem was the noise from the cicadas at night. I know that is nature, completely out of your control. We were pleased with the location , close enough to King Street and the historical sights.
What a spot! We were very impressed with the cottage. It had all of the comforts of home. The upstairs bedroom is beautiful with all of the windows. It was almost like being in a tree house! Waking up in the morning was a treat listing to the fountains in the koi pond. It was very peaceful.
The pool was an added bonus!
The location is perfect for visiting Charleston. We found several local spots to eat and drink. All, with-in walking distance. No car was needed as well. We used the free local transit (DASH) and Uber to get around.
It was a perfect spot, we couldn't of asked for a better location.
We would definitely stay there again on a return trip!!!
My husband and I spent this past weekend in Charleston for our one year anniversary and the Villa Santuario pool house was the perfect getaway! For just the two of us, the house was the perfect size, clean and charming. We wouldn't even mind returning with another couple since the top level can be closed off for privacy and there's a pull out couch down stairs. We didn't need a full kitchen, so the small hidden kitchenette area was just fine to store snacks and drinks (although we could have cooked if we wanted). We loved how the property was set back from the street, a hidden gem just blocks from great restaurants, bars and shops! The cobble stone driveway was very cute, and although the parking spot is a little tricky, the privacy is worth it! The courtyard was beautiful and we loved coming "home" to it in the evenings. We walked to our fancy dinner out on Saturday night at the Macintosh (AMAZING) and stopped for drinks upstairs at the cocktail club first (get the popcorn and order signature cocktails!). The walk to breakfast at Hominy Grill is a little further but enjoyable admiring the old and new homes along the way. Five Loaves Cafe is also along to walk and a great lunch spot! Don't miss grabbing ice cream at Jeni's on King Street and take a horse and carriage ride with Old South Carriage Company to get a historical, quick look around the city! Although the property is not right in the heart of downtown, the location couldn't be better in our opinion. It's a very short pedicab ride into the downtown area. We liked being close to the bridges and visited 3 beaches (all about a 20 minute drive) during the short weekend we were there. Check out Folly, Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms. Thank you Villa Santuario for making our anniversary one we will remember for years to come! We hope to return because Charleston is magical!
This cottage house is a magnificent retreat in the heart of downtown Charleston. It is very charming, with many bright windows, a kitchenette, and very nice linens and towels. The house has a beautiful, relaxing courtyard with a pool, pond/fountain, and off-street parking. The house is within 1-2 blocks of many of the best restaurants, pubs, and bars in the city. The property manager came by to see if we had everything we needed on check in, which was a very nice touch. We loved this place and will be back.
