The bedroom, roomy and surrounded by windows makes sleeping and waking up a delight. The washer/dryer made packing light possible. The kitchen is very compact. We used the fridge and microwave for breakfast items and popcorn, but enjoyed the multitude of restaurants otherwise. There are several bakery/ coffee shop a 5 or 10 minute walk away. If one walks a couple blocks the free Dash bus is available and worked well for us when we tired of walking, but the southern tip of Charleston is only about a mile away, so easy to visit museums, historic homes, Fort Sumter and tons of restaurants on foot. It lies within a nicely landscaped enclosed courtyard where I enjoyed my coffee and pastry in the mornings. You do have to drive into and park in an "alley" and walking on the uneven cobbled brick required careful stepping for our 70ish selves, but was manageable. This place played a big part in making our Charleston trip a great one! I hope we will have opportunity to rent it again!
Pleasantly decorated. Kitchen very restrictive. Sink lacked any form of plug & had to buy a bowl to do washing up. Bedding a bit tired. Thought a private courtyard was included but it was a shared courtyard. Concerned that the side gate into courtyard area was completely open (which seemed to make door code controls irrelevant). Would have preferred to have warning before workmen came on to property to do loud work.
We rented this little cottage for three nights for our wedding. It was delightful. The setting was beautiful and the way the little cottage is put together was so charming. We loved out time there and I can't wait to get my wedding photos with the beautiful area in the background!
We spent 6 nights at this rental and loved it. The pool is an absolute dream to have after a day of trekking around in the heat - and is a rare amenity in rentals in this area. It is located through a gate, at the end of the most adorable, colorful alleyway, with old cobblestones and rainbow stucco homes. The parking is not as tight as anticipated based on other reviews, and we think you could pretty easily get a small SUV in there if you needed to. After you park and enter through the gate, there is a lovely koi pond in front of the entry to the rental, with the swimming pool beyond the rental along the far wall. The rental itself is a converted coach house or similar, with two stories and tons of windows. The laundry is a huge perk, as were the kitchen and strong A/C. The only things that I might improve would be the shower toiletries - it wouldn't be insanely hard to source something a little more local or special (I forgot shampoo, so obviously looked at this right away) - and maybe de-clutter the space behind the house in case anyone wants to open the blinds up on that side. However, these are obviously not game changers. In the past, we have rented on the far east end of the peninsula, near the battery, which was a quiet, residential area. This is definitely in the middle of college town, but it is clearly an area that is in the midst of major revitalization, with lots of activity going on. We definitely felt safe walking around day and night. Both areas have their perks, but I think we would definitely choose to return to this rental in the future based on it being so close to everything (5 minutes to King Street and many amazing restaurants in all directions) and the swimming pool/courtyard area. Also, quick tip, there is a great coffee shop and bakery about a 1-minute walk west of the rental (take a left out of the alleyway), on St. Philip Street, called Brown's Court Bakery. Enjoy! :)
We stayed in the pool house for 2 nights. It was a nice little spot tucked away from the main drag. The pool was a bonus but the mosquitoes wouldn't allow us to enjoy it.... but it was nothing new for us, being from Memphis, TN. Other reviews mentioned the uncomfortable pull out mattress. I've never slept on a comfortable pull out sofa, so my expectations were such. For two nights it was fine. The parking is tight but pretty much all of Charleston is tight- so it's to be expected! We were rarely there because Charleston has so much to see but very much enjoyed our stay.
My husband was very happy with the property. He stated it was like entering a secret garden! Loved the outside area. The home itself was very nice. Our only problem was the noise from the cicadas at night. I know that is nature, completely out of your control. We were pleased with the location , close enough to King Street and the historical sights.
