Room for improvement
It was a charming carriage house, but a few very quick and inexpensive improvements would have enhanced our experience.
-The house entry code was TOO EASY.
-They need a few extra blankets to use while relaxing on the sofa.
-All the pillows were way too thick for our comfort.
-Considering that the vanity area in the bathrooms were so limited, it would have been nice to have a chest in the bedroom with some surface area to keep our toiletry bags and jewelry.
-A full size blow dryer instead of a travel size would be better.
-Better quality toilet paper is needed.
-We thought it was odd that the owner never walked over to checked on us
to ask if we were pleased with the accommodations.
-The cottage itself was adequately clean, however the court yard was in need of much TLC.
Great location but.....
If you want to be able to walk everywhere this is the place to stay.If you want to hang up your clothes...good luck with the 3 coat hangers provided. Although there were a couple of tea bags left out for us (no coffee) there was no sugar, salt or pepper provided. The kitchen is small, which is okay, but it would nice if there were mixing bowls. The koi pond was very murky and the water circulated all night below the bedroom window. The pool did not look clean enough to swim in. The place needs a good cleaning...the floors are sticky, the light fixtures and ceiling vents are coated in dust. On the upside the WiFi worked great, there is a TV on every floor, it was very handy to have a washer and dryer and it was nice having a downstairs powder room. Not my favourite VRBO.
Hi Susan, thank you for your feedback. We typically have ample hangers in each closet-- I apologize for this inconvenience. We have since replenished the hangers. We also are on site and happy to bring our guests anything that they need throughout their stay. The koi pond does circulate water through the fountain at all times in order to provide oxygen for the fish. This also helps with the water clarity, however; weather can affect the clarity and we do our best to stay ahead of this! We do our very best to describe the unit in detail in the listing description. We do mention that the kitchen is a true kitchenette and this can be seen in the photos as well. The pool is professionally cleaned twice a week on Mondays and Fridays, and sometimes more depending on weather. The cleanliness issues that you mention are out of character and we addressed the issues with our cleaning staff to ensure that it does not happen again. I'm glad that you enjoyed the location. We sincerely hope that the above issues did not tarnish your view of our wonderful city. We rely on guest feedback and appreciate your comments.
About as perfect as you can get!
Truly a charming cottage, courtyard and alley! Our week long stay in the cottage really made our first visit to Charleston unforgettable.
Location - up and coming north end of town, great college town vibe, great restaurants within 1 to 2 blocks - Five Loaves Cafe, The Grocery, Brown Court Bakery plus many more we did not get to try.
Getting Around - perfect with or without a car, close to freeways/hwys/airport, easy to get to to all the main tourist attractions.
Cottage - very clean and comfortable, loved the layout and use of space, great to have a second bathroom, second floor bedroom very spacious - bathroom and shower rooms a little tight but true to cottage feel.
Tully's Alley - really neat alley and entrance to cottage, multiple houses all nicely kept and decorated.
Location - a little bit questionable in some nearby areas that have not been renovated yet, although it felt very safe in the immediate area of the cottage.
Cottage - although we loved our stay, a few upgrades would have been very nice - better quality hair dryer, toilet paper; king bed was comfortable but maybe a little worn out.
If we ever make it back to Charleston, we would definitely stay here again!
Thank you Carol for your wonderful review. You were a pleasure to host and I would be happy to have you back anytime!
Cozy, charming, and very accessible to to the sites
The bedroom, roomy and surrounded by windows makes sleeping and waking up a delight. The washer/dryer made packing light possible. The kitchen is very compact. We used the fridge and microwave for breakfast items and popcorn, but enjoyed the multitude of restaurants otherwise. There are several bakery/ coffee shop a 5 or 10 minute walk away. If one walks a couple blocks the free Dash bus is available and worked well for us when we tired of walking, but the southern tip of Charleston is only about a mile away, so easy to visit museums, historic homes, Fort Sumter and tons of restaurants on foot. It lies within a nicely landscaped enclosed courtyard where I enjoyed my coffee and pastry in the mornings. You do have to drive into and park in an "alley" and walking on the uneven cobbled brick required careful stepping for our 70ish selves, but was manageable. This place played a big part in making our Charleston trip a great one! I hope we will have opportunity to rent it again!
Thank you Lynette for your wonderful review. I am glad to see your enjoyed your stay and would love to host you again in the future.
Convenient location for heart of historic Charleston
Pleasantly decorated. Kitchen very restrictive. Sink lacked any form of plug & had to buy a bowl to do washing up. Bedding a bit tired. Thought a private courtyard was included but it was a shared courtyard. Concerned that the side gate into courtyard area was completely open (which seemed to make door code controls irrelevant). Would have preferred to have warning before workmen came on to property to do loud work.
Lovely Three-Night stay for Wedding
We rented this little cottage for three nights for our wedding. It was delightful. The setting was beautiful and the way the little cottage is put together was so charming. We loved out time there and I can't wait to get my wedding photos with the beautiful area in the background!
I'm so happy that you loved the courtyard and took some of your wedding photos here. You were great guests and please come back anytime.
