700m from a wonderful 8km beach, Casa del Paleontólogo was one of the first houses to be built on the Roche estate. After undergoing considerable refurbishment (2012/2013), it therefore offers the advantages of a traditional Roche house (big rooms, large garden, mature pines) and also those provided by its brand new kitchen, terrace, and pool area. It is an ideal family house, with three double bedrooms (two doubles, one twin), a children’s room with two singles and one sofa bed , and a small single room. It is no more than a 400m walk to the playground and local shops (minimarket and pharmacy) and bar, and 500m to the tennis courts. The back garden (with pool) is fenced off from the front garden.
The original Roche houses were built with large covered terraces and with plenty of protected corners to provide refuge from any unwelcome wind; and Casa del Paleontólogo is a fine example of one of these. Long Andaluz windows, white-washed walls, and traditional tiles generate the atmosphere; and the spacious rooms provide plenty of comfort. The high-ceiling sitting room is ideal in both summer (opens straight onto the 40m2 terrace) and winter (with its large wood-burning stove). The new pool terrace provides a covered area for eating (built-in bbq) and relaxing, and also ample room for sunbathing around the pool (9x4m). The pool itself gets masses of sun, which ensures extremely warm water during most of the season! And for those of you who prefer the sea, it is a 700m walk to the 8km of surf at the Roche beach or 1km to the famous protected coves at the Calas de Conil.
The kitchen has all the mod cons. There is satellite TV, DVD, and a CD system, as well as a broadband Internet connection. There is off-road parking for 2 cars (although these can also be left on the street). And for the colder months, there is electric heating in each room.
Accommodation at Casa del Paleontólogo is on three floors:
Large open-plan sitting room, with connected dining room. The sitting room opens on to the 40m2 “morning terrace”, and the dining room opens on to the “evening” terrace (with bbq) and pool area. The new kitchen also opens on to the pool area. The ground floor has a double bedroom with bathroom, and also an extra WC.
Bedroom 1 (double) actually sits on a split landing between the ground floor and first floor. It is a large room, with its own bathroom. The first floor then has two more bedrooms: a twin, and a children’s room with two single beds and a sofa bed. These two rooms share the third bathroom.

Originally a husband-wife team that left Madrid for Spain’s deep south and a change of virtually everything, we came up with the idea of DosXtremos in 2006, the catalyst being the need to increase the number of people renting our own properties, one in La Coruña and the other in Cadiz, Atlantic Spain’s two wonderful extremes. And since then, even though the business has grown (we now manage a number of properties for other owners), our goal has always been the same: to try and tell other people about these two wonderful and relatively undeveloped areas of Spain that have brought us so much happiness! For this reason, the website has a heavy focus on regional information and includes details on the activities that we enjoy, both individually and as a family with young children. All our houses are in the provinces of La Coruña and Cadiz, although there is a significant bias towards Cadiz, because that is where we live. Each house has been chosen because it has something special to offer, and we have tried to ensure that the mix meets a variety of tastes and requirements. In the case of the Cadiz properties, we live close by, meaning we are on-hand for problem solving and making recommendations. You may prefer to lounge by the pool (all our pools are extremely tempting!), but if you do want to explore, we have suggestions to fill a lot more than two weeks! As for La Coruña, we personally are a long way away, but the properties are well looked after and our list of recommendations is even longer (to offset the less predictable weather!) In addition, we have a close and productive working relationship with all our owners, and we believe this shows in the way our properties are maintained. Those two extremes: Cadiz & La Coruña are quite different, but equally fabulous; and we are able and eager to tell you all sorts of things about both. It is a simple recipe: the better the information we give you, the more likely you are to have a good time...and therefore to return!
