About Michael Davis
My Name is Michael Davis and I live in Denmark with my family I am English by birth. I now spend 10 months in Sri Lanka then 2 months in Denmark throughout the year.
Michael Davis purchased this House in 2011
Why Michael Davis chose Badulla
I am completely besotted with Sri Lanka I first visited Sri Lanka in 1983 when I came to love this paradise Island its people have a rich culture are extremely polite and Hospitable. I particularly enjoy the fact that even though a relatively small Island there is so much to do from the fantastic beaches , elephant festivals, trekking, whale and Dolphin watching, white water rafting and an amazing diversity of wildlife and plants. We came to find our own paradise purely by chance and from the moment we set foot on the property it felt like the home it has become.
What makes this House unique
It's rare that you can find a house that can sleep 14 people with such views and privacy, you feel part of nature. We have developed many exciting and unique tours in and around our area Tuk Tuk Trekking is very popular taking in waterfalls, tea plantations and the mountains all from the seat of a Tuk Tuk .

Paradise that is Welikande
We were very pleased to find this quite, peaceful, cosy and beautiful place. Surrounded by natural selection of plants, endemic for the region birds and animals and gifted with amassing views towards Victoria Dam lake Welikande was as blessing for us.
Being close to nature at the site is combined with all needed facilities and the hospitable family managing the house. The offered cuisine was also delicious representing various local dishes.
We had the chance to go on a hiking tour with a local guide - it was perfectly organized and conducted.
I hope my family will have opportunity to visit this place for longer.
Thank you for such a lovely review, it means a lot to us to share our Paradise with others.
Best Wishes Michael
Spice Cottage the highlight of our stay
Firstly Shamarla made us so welcome and continued to provide us with fantastic food we had originally booked for 2 nights but stayed 5 as there is so much to do in this area Tuk Tuk Trekking was so much fun the waterfalls and tea plantations incredible to swim under a waterfall has to be a highlight of our trip.
The house its self is very eco friendly and clean with beautiful handmade 4 posterbeds and a view that is second to none!
There was plenty of space for us and the kids could run around in the semi tropical gardens looking at monkeys and parrots and squirrels all day long!
We loved it everything
The Old Priests house
We were a group of 2 families wanting to trek in The Knuckles mountains.
Everybody was so helpful the gardens are beautiful the house itself had plenty of space for us and we enjoyed having our own private gardens
The restaurant made us evening meals of local Sri Lankan foods that realy was exceptional.
We stayed in Spice Cottage it was simply wonderful
Spice cottage was a real treat lovely bedrooms and a fantastic view over the victoria lake.
We loved the surrounding spice garden the restaurant brought us down the most exquisite food.
Thanks very much for understanding what We are trying to create!
Simple but stylish in a homely way
Space and tranquility the views and gardens and house were worth the money.
To sit with a cup of coffee in the mornings, hearing and watching the birds on the covered terrace was just perfect, Shamarla (housekeeper) looked after us and the house so well it was hard to leave.
We went trekking in the knuckles mountains and site seeing with Sanjewa (driver) throughout the center of Sri Lanka over to the beaches in Trincomalee.
As a base for exploring Central Sri Lanka or just hanging about we can completly recommend this well run property.
Thank you for your lovely review Carol it was a pleasure for us to have you as a guest and hope to see you again soon. Michael Davis
At the beginning of August we spent some wonderful days at the Old Priest House with our family of seven. The location is stunning with beautiful views and a lovely garden. The place is an ideal base to explore the Knuckles Mountains, for a daytrip to Kandy or if you just want to spend a day relaxing on the veranda.
The meals were outstanding, and we especially recommend to take cooking lessons from Shamaria . She is a great cook. It is a wonderful experience to first go shopping for all the ingredients with Sanjewa and than to learn how to prepare several Sri Lankan dishes. Sanjewa speaks excellent English and is always on hand to help and to arrange trips like a trekking in the Mountains. The owner, Michael, is very friendly and helpful and provided us with all the information we would need. Meals are served in the main house, where you can also meet with other guests, use Wi-Fi or have some coffee.
We had a great time here and hope to come back one day.
