About the property

House(3bdrm,3bth) or Cottage(1bdrm, 1bth,+ extra full bed)

House or Cottage or both together(see listing #956147)

Located at the private and quiet end of Puako Beach Drive, Mango Hale offers the opportunity to experience a stay in 'Old Hawaii.' Recently renovated, these two original beach houses have all the modern comforts and conveniences, while the relaxed and tranquil community reminds you of an earlier era. Both houses now have air conditioning.

Mango Hale (three bedroom, three bath) or Mango Cottage (one bedroom, one bath)(vrbo listing# 956147) are available individually for couples or small families, or both houses can be rented together to accommodate a larger group. The property is filled with mango, banana, and coconut trees surrounded by a lush manicured lawn and other tropical plants. The caretaker apartment is located on the garden level off the garage of the Hale. The owner lives here full time and is available for security and other assistance. The rental is the 2nd and 3rd story of the house and has two separate entrances.

Directly across the street is the popular beach access known as 'Paniau.' This natural bay has a small coral and sand beach and is well known for its easy access to one of the most premier snorkel and dive spots on the whole island. Paniau has great surf breaks in the winter months and offers easy shore fishing as well as excellent sunsets year round. The Puako General Store is located just minutes down the road and offers local art & gift items, groceries, and sundries.

Super recommend. Great house great location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Scott's place. He's very kind to us and provided a lot of towels and beach stuff which are super helpful. The location is very close to the good beach and hotel/resort area for food. Really recommend!

Everything a family would desire on the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

The big island is very diverse, and Puako is a location that gives a portion of the island to you without you needing to drive anywhere. You are only 2.5 miles from the highway, but if you want the beach experience and don't want to drive any more than you have to, Mango Hale is for you. You can walk to the store, a variety of beaches and every sunset. Paniau is literally across the street. We walked down to the beach at the Fairmont Orchid in 20 minutes.

The accommodations were great for our family needs, we slept 7 very comfortably. There are multiple Lanis that help with just right spot depending on the time of day or temperature. Kids were no problem, even when the young ones got loud. The kitchen is large and easy to move around in.

Scott was so good to work with. Every question was answered quickly in person or by text. Sometimes our needs were met even before spoken. One night a palm frond was banging in the wind with gusts by one of the bedrooms. After our morning swim, Scott told us he had trimmed the tree. Scott's brother Rick was very nice as well. Bird songs, in the morning, a breeze in the evening and a beautiful Mango tree view; it has been a full day and I miss it already.

The best Christmas present

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay at the Stoltz home in Puako. Everything about it was perfect, walking to the beach across the street for a morning snorkel or afternoon nap or using one of the many bikes available for a 20 min ride to Hapuna beach for some bogie boarding. There was hardly any road traffic being that the house is on a dead end street which made waking up to the many bird songs even more relaxing and peaceful. The view of Mauna Kea from the bedroom is beautiful. Large lanai with ping pong table and comfy lounge chairs was also very nice. The perfect place to just unwind and have fun, you have all you need right there. Mahalo Scott and Rick!

Great Location, Great Value, Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

It was perfect. At the end of a quiet dead end street. It is a two minute walk to the best sunset viewing on the island. Great bedrooms all with their own lanais and lots of windows. Everything was very clean and kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes and utensils.

It is a shared home. The caretaker is right under you and his brother is in front.

  • 2 of 5

The washing machine is shared with all three houses and it appeared that the brothers were running some type of wash and fold operation. The ocean view is only visable from the top bedroom. I thought it being a mango hale we could pick some mangos but we all felt a bit inhibited. The upside is it is only cross the street from the ocean. Puako store has upped its game and sells some pretty great foodstuffs. The sunrise from the back porch was amazing with views of all three volcanoes. My family came to dinner and we had a great time on the back porch listening to the birds and looking out on Mauna Kea. It has its magical moments. A bit of a bummer with kids because of the washer and there really isn't a yard for them to run around in. I also felt bad when the kids were running around upstairs in the morning.

Wonderful house in the most private and quiet area

  • 5 of 5

Nothing to add to the other wonderful reviews, except that Scott accommodated our every need and wish, including a high chair, and a ping pong table! Such a relaxing place to be, with no bustle of tourism.
