Good and spacious!
We enjoyed our stay in this spacious and well equiped house, but we were disappointed with a couple of points:
This is a solar powered house, wich we didn't know, they asked us to save electricity, since we were ther during cloudy days, BUT, they also ask to close windows at night because of it was termite season... Since there are no ceiling fans, the house was hot and very humid... The price is a bit high for what we get.
We're glad that you enjoyed the spaciousness and well equipped house for your vacation. The islands were experiencing two hurricanes passing during your stay, which led to very cloudy days. As stated in our listing, we get our electric from the sun with solar photo-voltaic but also have a back-up generator to keep things running smoothly. We just kindly asked if you could please not use excess electricity if at all possible during these storms. The flying termites are attracted to light so we asked that you close the windows if you had the lights on at night. Fortunately, there are floor fans in the house as well as the termite season is short. Aloha and Mahalo
Serenity Farm Cottage
I love everything about this cottage. The location, ever changing million dollars ocean view, great neighborhood, and peaceful. Highly recommended it!!!
We're so glad you enjoyed the peacefulness of the country and the ocean views. You are so right about the always changing. It's like watching a piece of landscaped art changing colors and as the sun changes location. The evening stars are so bright and vivid to stargaze and look at the Milky Way. We hope you took home some wonderful photos and memories. Aloha and Mahalo
We enjoyed the drive to the house even if it was 18 miles from the Merry Monarch we attended. Mayla a 10 year old had a chance to be with horse that is across the street from the house and waited for us every morning we leave the house. She enjoyed that. Did not bother us to hear animals all night making their own unique sound.
The tub was so slippery so I bought a mat for the tub. I was afraid somebody is going to fall. It will be better if there was a dishwasher.
Mayla had a big cut under her leg when she sat on top of the cut tree for photo
Shooting. I was gonna use the first aid kit in the bathroom but it looked so old so I
used mine. Thanks
Dunkin is the neighbor's horse and loves getting attention and seeing people. I'm sure he enjoyed seeing you as much as your daughter did seeing him. I will replace the first aid kit for a more modern looking one, the contents are fine though. That's great that you were able to go to the Merrie Monarch, it's such a special event to attend. Aloha and Mahalo
Comfortable, quiet house with more than necessities
Well equiped house with more than the necessities - kitchen tools and spices and sauces. It was nice and quiet and very comfortable. The view is great too. The owners are very responsive and helpful - even getting friends to answer questions about the garden!
Mahalo for asking about the Mahogany trees during your stay. So in about 20 years, they might be big enough to make a table. I guess you'll have to come back then to use it as you were wonderful guests. We hope you took home some wonderful memories. Mahalo and Aloha.
Wonderful stay in a tranquil, peaceful area on the Big Island
We loved our stay in the Gardenia House on the Big Island. It had all the conveniences of home and was so neat and clean upon our arrival which we really appreciated. The property itself is large and has a beautiful view of the ocean. It was so peaceful and quiet that we hardly knew anyone was around. We also liked the little things and attention to detail such as having a cooler, ice trays, an umbrella, full laundry facilities, the outdoor seating, outdoor grill, the fact that there was an extra key to use so the key in the lockbox could stay there if you accidentally locked yourself out, and the gate for extra security although I don't think there is much of a chance that any unauthorized person would come on the property due to its location. There are only locals who use the road. The house is located on the Hamakua Coast, and if you go north or south, there is plenty to do such as fantastic waterfalls, scenic lookouts, and tropical botanical gardens. Hilo town is underrated and still has the look of old Hawaii especially in the historic downtown district. It has many museums, bay front parks, and a famous banyan tree drive. We picnicked all over the area and especially liked Carlsmith Beach Park (right outside Hilo) as it has a lagoon with large sea turtles that are curious and come right up to you. Sandy and Bob are very welcoming as we were fortunate to meet them and attend church. They are happy to give you any info about things to do on the island. This was a dream trip for us, and we enjoyed every minute of it. On the last day it was difficult to leave as we sitting on the patio with the sun shining warmly just enjoying the moment. We would recommend for anyone to stay here and enjoy the beautiful Big Island. We are most grateful!
We're glad that the grounds keeper was able to identify which bird you were hearing. The Hawaiian Pheasant 'Kalij' does make an unusual sound plus they are pretty to look at. It was a pleasure to have met you both and for this island being the last on your sisters bucket list. I'm sure since you stayed for a month, you got to see all of the real Hawaii and not just the main attractions. I understand that you had some wonderful conversations with the local people here, everyone here is so pleasant. We do hope you get to come back again so we can 'talk story' some more. Aloha and Mahalo
