Why Amanda and Derek Cornes chose Ross-on-Wye

Little Howle Farm is located in the hamlet of Howle Hill, close to Ross on Wye. It borders onto an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is minutes away from the Forest of Dean and Symonds Yat. The countryside around Howle Hill is simply stunning and the views over the Wye valley are breath-taking.

The farm itself was built of local stone in the early 1800's. We instantly fell in love with the place and have spent 3 years converting the barns and renovating the farmhouse.

What makes this barn unique

Little Howle Farm perfectly situated for a visit to the Wye Valley and provides a luxurious base to return to after a hard days walking, canoeing, cycling or just meandering around the lovely local towns of Ross on Wye or Monmouth.

Milking Parlour Crafts (www.milkingparlourcrafts.com) is located on the farm and provides a wide range of craft activities (floristry, card making, general crafts, art classes, photography) that can be combined into your holiday. Bespoke classes can be arranged. Call Amanda on 01989 485 226.

Our cottage was immaculate and beautifully restored with everything we could want or need. Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage, part of a group of restored farm buildings, is set in extremely peaceful, rural surroundings.

In the vicinity there are numerous places to visit and plenty of activities on offer.

Amanda and Derek are thoughtful, charming hosts ready to help out at any time.

I recommend Little Howle Farm to anyone hoping to get away from it all and enjoy a stay in an idyllic setting.

Outstanding standard of accommodation, beautiful location, wonderful hospitality and welcome

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Rivington Barn, and we'll be returning as soon as we can. This is one of the most beautiful properties we've ever stayed at.

The barn has been converted to a truly exceptional standard (the owners Amanda and Derek also let us take a peak at the Granary as well whilst empty - very much the same), in a beautiful renovation which still has kept the original character and features of the building whilst being wonderfully contemporary and wecoming. The photos on the website are great, but they still don't do it full justice ! It really is stunning, and yet incredibly comfortable at the same time.

The location is also idyllic - you feel out in the country, yet everything you could need is only a few minutes' drive away. The myriad attractions of the Forest are close by - kayaking, climbing and walking at places like Symonds Yat, some lovely pubs and restaurants, we even had a crack at pottery - and Ross, Monmouth, Abergavenny and the Brecon Beacons are all within the hour by car.

The gardens are also lovely - a great place to just chill and relax (and you're encouraged to scrump for apples and plums !)

Amanda and Derek are wonderful hosts, and can't do enough for you. There's nothing we could think of that wasn't already provided, but they are only too glad to make sure you have anything else you may need, or take suggestions (though we really couldn't think of anything). And the standard of hygiene is exceptional - it's clear that our hosts take a huge amount of pride not just in the standard of accommodation but also in its cleanliness and presentation.

For us, this very much sets the bar by which we'll be judging wherever we stay in the future - a truly wonderful experience. Thank you so much Amanda and Derek !

Immaculate barn conversion with lovely personal touches

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely few days at Rivington Barn. Amanda and Derek were charming and made us extremely welcome. From freshly baked bread on our first day to rides on the golf buggy for our daughter, nothing was too much. They should be very proud of what they have achieved and we shall definitely be back.
