Living like the Gods in France! (Dutch saying says it all
Our stay with 11 family members (netween 4 and 65 years) was wonderfull. Especially the grandchildren loved the freedom both in house (Castle) and outdoor. They could go everywhere, lot's to do and see. The rooms were more than sufficient to hve meals or play games together but also to have a rest or be on your own. The Castle grounds are enormous. You can have a nice walk and never leave the grounds! The owners were ever so nice and friendly. We loved it!
Lovely chateau stay in the Loire
The Chateau met our needs perfectly. Our party of 6 adults and 2 children had plenty of space both inside and out. The furnishings and equipment were all good and there was no shortage of crockery, cutlery and pans etc. The grounds are vast and really attractive and there are plenty of walks within the grounds and adjoining woods. Loads of bikes to use and play things for the kids. The pool was perfect, close to the house but far enough away to stop the children wanting to do nothing else. The owners were very helpful. They live in the other half of the chateau but after the welcome tour, they just left you to it. Local town, Bauge, about 6k away, with good supermarkets and cafe's / bars. Beyond that there are lots of places to visit (car essential) driving on those roads though is a pleasure if you come from the UK.
What a great place to stay in Loire valley area, for groups small or large, young and old
We were a group of 10, two families with 6 children aged 6 to 18. Everybody thought the château was great, and all had a lovely time, using the bikes provided to explore the vast grounds, swimming in the pool 2 or 3 times a day and playing table-tennis constantly. The house (the East Wing) itself is big, no problem with space and different options available on numbers of rooms or suites depending on size of the group. Some suites have adjoining bedrooms so ideal for those with smaller children.
The location was good, 5 hours drive from Calais, no shortage of Loire Châteaux to explore, nice towns and villages nearby and we managed to make a 3-4 hour leisurely canoe trip down the other Loir, from La Flèche to Bazouges.
The weather was excellent the whole time.
Our hosts were very welcoming, spoke excellent English and gave a thorough tour of the house and grounds on arrival and gave us any information we requested. But they did not disturb us during the rest of the stay despite living in the main body of the chateau adjoining. We felt free to relax and enjoy ourselves which we did successfully. Deposit was returned to us upon departure without any fuss. (Quite different from a previous experience we had 2 or 3 years ago at a different location where the owners were very picky and took money off us, rather spoiling what had also been a great holiday and left us feeling we would not go back there.)
The Château du Bouchet we would definitely go back to, and would recommend it to anybody.
What a wonderful chateau!
Having just returned to New Zealand, we are now in a position to reflect on our experience of staying at the Chateau du Bouchet during June this year. We had hired not only the main wing but also, to accommodate more family members, the two separate units with ensuites. At one time we were with 16 adults, including a few teenagers, but most of the time we had 12 or 14 in our party.
Looking back on that week now I can honestly say it was a most wonderful venue for our holiday. The chateau is truly beautiful set as it is in the french countryside, in huge park-like surroundings, with the swimming pool less than a hundred meters away.
Sophie made us feel very welcome and provided bed linen and towels. We made good use of the table tennis, the bikes and the BBQ. We were lucky with the weather so were able to sunbath, go out for walks, have short drives to the local villages and generally enjoy the local environment and people.
The only shortcoming was the lack of good internet access. I understand that this is due to its remoteness but if you are not too worried about staying in everyday contact with the rest of the world that should not be a problem.
In every other aspect, the chateau met all our needs and provided a beautiful, romantic backdrop for our holiday. We thoroughly recommend it and look forward to staying another time. Thank you Sophie!
Incredible Place to Stay! Highlight of Europe!
We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Chateau du Bouchet and our experience could not have been any better. The hosts were amazing (I wanted to bring Sophie back to Canada with us, she was so lovely), the grounds were tranquil and beautiful, and most of all is was quiet! The castle is located very close to a little town called Bauge (8 minutes by car) which has everything you need for groceries, shopping, gasoline etc. The country setting has loads of wildlife around the property including deer, rabbits and many birds. Our group of 9 people had spent the first half of our trip on a cruise through Italy, Greece and Croatia but everyone agreed that staying at the Chateau was just as wonderful. Each of the rooms has fabulous character and are generous in sizes. The beds were sooooo comfortable-the best sleeps I had in Europe. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and the dining room accommodated all of us for some meals together. We had a couple of kids with us and they loved the trampoline and the many bikes on the property that were at our disposal. The pool was a hit with everyone...it was clean, warm and inviting and got a lot of use with our group!
We had 3 cars amongst our crew which worked out really nicely. We did day trips up to Normandy (about 2 1/2 hours), Mont-St-Micheal (give yourself 3 hours), and in around the Loire Valley. Paris is about 3 hours from the Chateau. We chose to stay in Paris first then drive to the Chateau.
The most wonderful part about staying at this property is that our hosts made us feel so warmly welcomed. It was a great advantage to us that Sophie & Henri also lived on property. We had a medical emergency with a member of our group and Sophie immediately helped to connect us to a doctor. She also loaned us her own personal GPS when ours failed to work. Their generosity was unlimited and we still talk about it today of how lucky we were to have met such incredible people like Sophie & Henri on our travels.
I have no doubt that we will return to France and definitely opt to stay at the Chateau du Bouchet again. You will absolutely not find better value for your money spent and a warmer welcome than you will coming to this property. Thank you again, Sophie, for sharing your home and giving us an authentic French experience.
A wonderfully relaxing family holiday
We spent a week at Chateau du Bouchet in August. Our family party of 14 were aged from 1 year to 70 years old. The property was really spacious, clean, and comfortable, as well as being very elegant. The owners were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The children loved the swings and slide by the back door, the swimming pool in the orchard, and the bikes and garden toys. The local shopping at Bauge was excellent: a farmers market (on Monday), good supermarket, butcher, and pharmacy. The pattiserie even made a special birthday cake for our party. We'd love to visit again.
The Bouchet is in the heart of the Loire Valley, registered as a world heritage site by the UNESCO which offers a true mix of art with History receiving about 4 million visitors all over the world per year.
It is less than 1h from Angers, Azay-le-Rideau, Chinon, Fontevraud, Langeais, Le Lude, Saumur, Usse, Villandry, etc.
It is also less than 2h from Blois, Chambord, Chaumont, Chenonceau, Cheverny and many others.
Besides the castles, Anjou offers delightful sceneries' landscape and an incomparable light.
From there, you can also visit the vineyards of Anjou and Touraine nearby, museums, cave houses, mushrooms cellars, etc.
For sport activities, you will have a pool on site, beautiful 18-hole golf course in Bauge 5 min away, and the national Chandelais forest with its 800 hectares of forest of tall trees and kilometres of paths, fills the estate.
It is 5 min away from the millennium town of Bauge offering all the shops and necessary commodities.
