The quaint, tree-lined streets in this neighborhood are filled with brownstone shops, restaurants, bars and upscale housing. The Back Bay is one of Boston's most beautiful and walkable areas, featuring stately brownstones and spacious, shady promenades. You can amble along the wide sidewalks of Newbury Street and Commonwealth Avenue.
Also one of the most desirable and fashionable neighborhoods in the city, the Back Bay is centered on Newbury and Boylston Streets, home to upscale shops, sidewalk cafes, exotic florists, hotels, art galleries and people from all corners of the world. There are many types of international foods available, from tapas to sushi.
Numerous bars serve as meeting places for talking, drinking and dancing. Copley Square is the heart of Back Bay, featuring landmarks such as the Boston Public Library and the John Hancock Tower. Shoppers and tourists also flock to the Prudential Center. Commonwealth Avenue is the pride of the neighborhood - a beautiful, tree-lined boulevard with grand mansions and other stately homes. This neighborhood, along with Beacon Hill, is the place to live for the quintessential Boston experience and is popular with young professionals and empty nesters who fled the suburbs for city living after their kids left home. The housing stock is a mixture of Victorian brownstones and larger buildings nestled between high-rises offering luxurious living in snug quarters.
PROS: Served by the Green and Orange lines and an Amtrak station, Back Bay is close to everything. It's easy to hop onto the paths along the Charles River for an evening walk or bike ride. Real estate in this neighborhood will always be in demand so it's a good investment if you can afford it. These days there are more buildings offering luxury services like doormen, dog walking, and maid service for time-pressed residents.
CONS: Back Bay is one of the highest-priced neighborhoods in the Boston real estate market and you don't always get much space for your money. It's difficult to find a bargain here, and pickings are slim - if you find something you like, it's bound to sell quickly. Parking will be your next biggest concern. Spaces on the street are next to impossible to find and renting a private one will cost a pretty penny.

This location was great for my stay in Boston. Walking distance to everything I needed, included the T. Just a block away from the river. The apartment was nice, laid out well, and perfect for the length of stay. When I come back, I will definitely try and book this place.
Family vacation to Boston from Florida. We stayed in Back Bay #3 studio. Fantastic location. right around the corner is a little bodega where we got anything we needed. The apartment had everything from coffee maker, to kitchen (everything). Very safe and secure neighborhood. come in on the weekend (when there is no game) and park in non residential on other side of street for free. first come first serve but will save you a ton if you have your own vehicle. We parked on Sat and then took the subway everywhere. Cant say enough about Michelle. She was fantastic to work with and we will certainly stay again. as a matter of fact, I am looking at one of her other properties to book right now.

We just came back from Boston and rented the Beacon Hill studio. Location is amazing. Apartment is really cute and the bed really comfortable. Nicely outfitted. Bathtub a bit dated but TONS of hot water and great water pressure. Michelle is incredibly responsive and looking out for her renters. Would definitely rent from her again!
My fiance and I stayed at the North End location for 4 nights recently and LOVED every second of our stay! The apartment is tiny, but has all of the amenities you'll need including extra blankets, dishes, cutlery, pots/pans, etc. So much nicer than staying in a hotel - the location is PERFECT - 1 block or so from Hanover Street and 2 blocks from some of the best pizza around (Regina Pizza). Speaking of food, there's no shortage in the area and we indulged in many of the local bakeries, cafes and eateries. EVERYTHING in Boston is within walking distance and we could be in Quincy Market or off on the T heading out of downtown in an easy 5 minute walk.
The owner was great - everything was laid out ahead of time and communication was excellent. The next time I'm in Boston I will NOT hesitate to rent this, or any other unit from this owner. SUPERB!!
A few things to note:
- You definitely DO NOT need a car in Boston; however, if you have one (or rent one), there are virtually no "non-resident" parking in the North End. There is, however, a lot on Commercial Street that is $20 overnight parking - very easy in and out!
- The apartment is a 3rd floor walk-up (no elevator) - we didn't mind, but for folks with mobility issues, it's something to note.
- The bathroom is TINY and includes a small stand-up shower. Again, it worked for us, but people who are larger or have mobility issues might find it difficult to navigate.
As I said, this place was perfect for us. We loved the location, the apartment itself was decorated very nicely, the wifi always worked and the bed was comfortable. It was everything we needed (and more). Thanks Michelle!!
thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay in this modest but chic and comfortable studio! the location and neighborhood are A++, walked everywhere, the neighborhood is beautiful!
the Owner, Kim, could not be more cooperative and considerate-- sends you emails with all the information you need, responds almost immediately to questions, and the apartment is stocked with everything you can need! will definitely revisit on next vaca in Boston!
