Overview

Perigord Noir Barn Rental Photos and Description

Sarlat, Dordogne, four character cottages, original features and stunning views.

La Ferme de La Tour is an ensemble of beautiful old farm buildings dating back to the 16th century. Overlooking 2 1/2 acres of parkland, are four impeccably presented cottages / barn conversions, and a large chlorine free heated swimming pool. High on a hill, at the top of a valley, we are surrounded by magnificent countryside, a network of pretty footpaths and a neighbouring historical château. The breathtaking valley views, gardens and huge skies will overwhelm you with a feeling of peace and tranquillity disturbed only by the abundance of wildlife and the occasional distant tractor. The pool, which is bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk, is perfectly sited to maximise the views enabling you to watch the ever changing colours of the Dordogne valley. Each gite has excellent WIFI reception. To visit our personal website scroll down and click on the link at the bottom of the facilities page just above the car hire advert.

WIFI is available throughout, with boosters in each gite, ensuring a good reception no matter where you are..........

On site activities include table tennis, boules, badminton, football net and swings..

We welcome families and couples alike, however our premises are not suitable for children under five years of age.

Friendly but unobtrusive owners live on site...

About Chris and Kate Waters

We are an average family of four that originate from the village of Wroxham in Norfolk in the east of England.

Why did we move to France ? Why not...... We are, or should I say were, the same as most working families in the western world, devoted parents, but having to give ourselves and far too much time to careers which involve long hours and stress. So we looked for an alternative and France seemed like the right choice. The choice provided us with more stress and longer hours than you can imagine and for the first three or four years it was extremely hard work, both physically and mentally. However we are now reaping the benefits and enjoying our new life to the full, in one of the most beautiful areas we could have dreamed of living.

Chris and Kate Waters purchased this barn in 2004

Why Chris and Kate Waters chose Perigord Noir

We moved lock stock and barrel to the Sarlat area in 2004, buying a set of empty farm buildings that needed far too much work. But the position and the views had us hooked and nothing came anywhere near a close second. So here we are, several years have past and the renovation and transformation completed, but not without some real highs and lows and a vast collection of stories and experiences.

What makes this barn unique

The position is magical and just not possible to capture in a picture.

We have been extremely lucky to find a property with such a formula of character, views and location. We are close to Sarlat, which is the jewel of the Dordogne, yet in a truly rural setting in stunning countryside.

Perfect accommodation

  • 5 of 5

La Ferme de la Tour is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday. We stayed in La Petite Grange which was very comfortable. The gite is very private and has a lovely outdoor seating area and access to a great pool with amazing views. Chris and Kate are fantastic hosts offering local knowledge and advising on places to visit in the area. La Ferme de la Tour is in a great location to visit near by Sarlat, Domme, Beynac and many other beautiful towns and villages which are a short drive away. We had a wonderful holiday and will definitely be coming back!

Lovely Grounds & Well Furnished Units!

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I found La Petite Grange in an ideal location for purposes of our holiday. The unit was very clean and well furnished. The bedrooms were a bit small and views restricted to dormer windows facing north. The second bedroom with bunk beds is only suitable for small children. The bathroom is a bit unusual with the sink on one side and the mirror on the other. People 6' or taller may have some head clearance issues with the sink and at the top of the stairwell as the ceiling curves downward at those locations. The kitchen table can seat four, but only 2 or 3 conveniently. Wine glasses were very small and we bought several so we could limit the number of pours and enjoy the aroma of the wines. We are somewhat picky since one of our sons owns a winery in California. Wi-Fi was great and the living area very comfortable. The views to the south from inside were very restricted and only when you stepped out to the furthest right part of the terrace was an almost full view in that direction possible. If you want good south facing views, one of the other 3 units would be a better choice. Mike and Mary Callahan

Owner's Response: Thank you Mike and Mary for taking the time to write a review. We welcome all comments and where ever possible react to ensure we offer the best service possible going forward. We can't do much about the height restraints for those over 6 ft tall but take on board your comments about the mirror and wine glasses and have bought some larger glasses and will be fitting an extending mirror adjacent to the sink in the next week or so. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your business.

Dordogne Treat

  • 4 of 5

A lovely week in beautiful countryside with stunning views. The small group of converted farm buildings is well run by attentive owners. La Petite Grange was ideal for a couple. The steep stairs might be a problem with small children but suited us just fine. Good walks from the property and handy for all the historic sites , chateaux and markets.

House hunting holiday..

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week before Christmas in La Petite Grange at La Ferme de La Tour and loved it. We are a family of four and came to Dordogne on a house hunting trip ( third time ).

We found the gite really comfortable and super clean which was a welcome as I am fastidious about cleanliness. The furnishings are all of a good quality and really comfortable from beds to sofa and chairs which is unusual in our experience of French gites. The gite was light and spacious and although the second bedroom is a little smaller with bunks beds our two thought these were great fun. The surrounding area is packed with history and scenery and although we haven't found our new house yet we hope to do so soon and will definitely be back to stay with Kate and Chris who couldn't have been more helpful, especially with all the local knowledge. Highly recommended..Thank you....

The Crofts on tour

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at La Petite Grange after a day on the road and what a welcome. The gite was warm and so cozy. We soon settled in and found that we had everything we needed for a family of four, very well equipped. The outside terrace was super for eating outside even in December we had three very mild days. Our visit to Dordogne was mostly for house hunting purposes but we also did lots of walking and sightseeing. Chris and Kate had provided a brilliant book with all the local info and details of things to do and some great walks. Lovely gite very clean and very well appointed. Our thanks to Chris and Kate. If we have not bought a house in the area within the next twelve months then we will be back.

Situated within the hamlet of La Tour we are two minutes from the pretty village of Sainte Nathalene with a bar, hotel, restaurants and small shop. Just 7 miles from the historical town of Sarlat-la-Caneda with more listed buildings than any other town in Europe and a twice weekly market, it is perfectly placed for access to all of the most beautiful sites in Dordogne and Lot. There are numerous chateaux to visit, caves to explore and pretty market towns to meander through. There is also a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages close by. The Perigord region is famous for it's quality food and wine (of which Sarlat with an array of street entertainment is arguably the capital) available at very affordable rates. For the even more serious wine lover then Bergerac and it's fine wine region is only an hour away. For those that want to sample the local wine then transport can be arranged locally. Please contact us for details of our website and further internal and external pictures.
