About the property

Quality impeccably clean gites

La Ferme de La Tour is an ensemble of beautiful old farm buildings dating back to the 16th century. Overlooking 2 1/2 acres of parkland, are four impeccably presented cottages / barn conversions, and a large chlorine free heated swimming pool. High on a hill, at the top of a valley, we are surrounded by magnificent countryside, a network of pretty footpaths and a neighbouring historical château. The breathtaking valley views, gardens and huge skies will overwhelm you with a feeling of peace and tranquillity disturbed only by the abundance of wildlife and the occasional distant tractor. The pool, which is bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk, is perfectly sited to maximise the views of the Dordogne valley. Each gite has excellent WIFI reception. About Chris and Kate Waters

We are an average family of four that originate from the village of Wroxham in Norfolk in the east of England.

Why did we move to France ? Why not...... We are, or should I say were, the same as most working families in the western world, devoted parents, but having to give ourselves and far too much time to careers which involve long hours and stress. So we looked for an alternative and France seemed like the right choice. The choice provided us with more stress and longer hours than you can imagine and for the first three or four years it was extremely hard work, both physically and mentally. However we are now reaping the benefits and enjoying our new life to the full, in one of the most beautiful areas we could have dreamed of living.

Chris and Kate Waters purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Chris and Kate Waters chose Sainte-Nathalène

We moved lock stock and barrel to the Sarlat area in 2004, buying a set of empty farm buildings that needed far too much work. But the position and the views had us hooked and nothing came anywhere near a close second. So here we are, several years have past and the renovation and transformation completed, but not without some real highs and lows and a vast collection of stories and experiences.

What makes this cottage unique

The position is magical and just not possible to capture in a picture.

We have been extremely lucky to find a property with such a formula of character, views and location. We are close to Sarlat, which is the jewel of the Dordogne, yet in a truly rural setting in stunning countryside.

Great views

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful views from the terrace but still nice and private as slightly tucked away. Very well equipped with good cooking facilities. Made very welcome by Chris the owner who made sure we were happy with everything and advised us to keep fan on all night when it was too hot. Lots of detailed information on best places to visit and eat plus parking in Sarlat. Wonderful walks recommended with good instructions on which paths to take to include the stunning views of the area. Very comfortable place and peaceful. Lots to do and very well situated especially for Sarlat, Domme and gorgeous little villages near by. Nice to sit by the pool and take in the views and total peace and quiet. Chris was available if you needed him.

The perfect base to explore the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

Le Fournil's location, with its stunning views across the valley from your own terrace and the pool, has to be one of the best in the area.

All the top attractions are an easy drive or short taxi ride (kindly provided by Chris) away.

We loved exploring the area and indulging in lazy lunches in Sarlat, Domme, Beynac etc, then picking up wonderful local produce from the close by hypermarket, or one of the numerous daily markets held in the nearby villages, to enjoy back on our terrace with a bottle of wine watching the sunset.

We can highly recommend packing a picnic and hiring a canoe to drift down the river taking in a completely different view of the numerous chateaux as you wind you way slowly along. There are also plenty of lovely walks from Le Fournill, which you can end with a cooling dip on your return.

Chris and Kate are the prefect hosts, eager to help and offer advice on local attractions / restaurants, but more than that, they are genuinely nice, fun people with a love of the area and keen for you to enjoy it too.

We will definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending Chris and Kate's wonderful Le Fournill.

An amazing place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The property was fantastic, description given was spot on, had everything you needed for a long or short stay. We were there for three week and sad to leave. The property, pool and garden were spotless and in fantastic condition. Kate and Chris were great and made our stay effortless. An added bonus are the amazing views and it is situated in a great area to explore the Dordogne. I would without a doubt recommend this as a great place to stay and will be going back !

Le Fournil, warm and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

A most attractive gite. It is compact, well maintained with all essentials at hand. It's position not only offers an excellent view but also provides welcome privacy. The owner could not be more helpful.

The bedroom can get very warm but a fan is available.

Our interaction with the Owner was excellent from enquiry to booking and the holiday stay itself. Le Fournil ticked the box for all our requirements, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Great selection and variety of countryside walks which the Owner has documented. Good selection of Restaurants within a 30 to 60 minute drive, and interestingly the Owner can provide a Drop off and Pick up service by arrangement. A bonus was the superb WiFi and British TV Stations set up. We can absolutely recommend without reservation.
