La Ferme de La Tour is an ensemble of beautiful old farm buildings dating back to the 16th century. Overlooking 2 1/2 acres of parkland, are four impeccably presented cottages / barn conversions, and a large chlorine free heated swimming pool. High on a hill, at the top of a valley, we are surrounded by magnificent countryside, a network of pretty footpaths and a neighbouring historical château. The breathtaking valley views, gardens and huge skies will overwhelm you with a feeling of peace and tranquillity disturbed only by the abundance of wildlife and the occasional distant tractor. The pool, which is bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk, is perfectly sited to maximise the views of the Dordogne valley. Each gite has excellent WIFI reception. Friendly but unobtrusive owners live on site..
We are an average family of four that originate from the village of Wroxham in Norfolk in the east of England.
Why did we move to France ? Why not...... We are, or should I say were, the same as most working families in the western world, devoted parents, but having to give ourselves and far too much time to careers which involve long hours and stress. So we looked for an alternative and France seemed like the right choice. The choice provided us with more stress and longer hours than you can imagine and for the first three or four years it was extremely hard work, both physically and mentally. However we are now reaping the benefits and enjoying our new life to the full, in one of the most beautiful areas we could have dreamed of living.
Chris and Kate Waters purchased this barn in 2004
We moved lock stock and barrel to the Sarlat area in 2004, buying a set of empty farm buildings that needed far too much work. But the position and the views had us hooked and nothing came anywhere near a close second. So here we are, several years have past and the renovation and transformation completed, but not without some real highs and lows and a vast collection of stories and experiences.
The position is magical and just not possible to capture in a picture.
We have been extremely lucky to find a property with such a formula of character, views and location. We are close to Sarlat, which is the jewel of the Dordogne, yet in a truly rural setting in stunning countryside.
A damage deposit is required and will be refunded in full within seven days of the end of your holiday unless the accommodation or it's contents are damaged or the accommodation is left in a condition that necessitates extra cleaning time to return it to the high standard in which it is presented. We stayed at The Cottage for five weeks from mid December. When we arrived Chris and Kate had lit the wood burning stove and it was glowing away nicely. They even put up a Christmas tree for us, it was great. There was a comfortable sitting/dining/kitchen room with nice furniture, UK TV, good wifi, and a well equipped kitchen. Upstairs there were two good sized bedrooms, and a nice shower room. The wood burner kept the whole house warm, but there was also effective electric heaters if needed. Outside there was a swimming pool (not for December) and a huge sweeping lawn for outdoor games. The local cycling was really good, with long, medium and short routes, hilly or otherwise to suit the rider. The Cottage was less than 15 minutes drive from Sarlat, with its supermarkets, coffee shops and dozens of restaurants. We would certainly go back to this location.
The property was beautifully maintained and the location excellent for sightseeing in the Dordogne. La Grange was one of a small number of properties at La Ferme and was both peaceful and relaxing to stay in.
The property itself was clean and modern yet had a rustic charm that was a joy to stay in. The pool was just a few steps from our property and we often had it to ourselves - once evening Chris, the owner, put the lights on for a moonlight swim: heaven! especially after the heat of the day.
The owners were fantastic and we couldn't have asked for better hosts - nothing was too much and Chris was a fount of knowledge regarding the local area (the red book in the property gave us great ideas for visiting local places and especially where to go to get a canoe for a row down the Dordogne or to visit the local markets.
I would certainly return and would recommend La grange to anyone wanting to stay near Sarlat and who wants the most relaxing holiday ever!
Thank you Chris and Kate.
We spent two weeks at La Ferme de la Tour, staying in La Grange with our children aged 6 and 9. The property was excellently equipped and absolutely immaculate. The grounds and pool were fabulous and there were gorgeous walks from our doorstep. Chris and Kate were discreetly on hand to answer any queries and provide insider knowledge on everything from back routes into Sarlat to best value for money canoe trips. We enjoyed our stay so much we ha d just booked to go back next summer!
We have stayed at this accommodation on several occasions. Chris and Kate are always on hand to ensure your holiday goes without a hitch without being intrusive. The gite is clean and well maintained. The views and setting are beautiful. Highly recommended.
Our gite was charmingly French but with all mod.cons., we wanted for nothing and it was spotlessly clean. Our hosts were very friendly, without being intrusive and the gardens and grounds were maintained beautifully, all adding up to a delightful scene. We particularly liked the printed walks provided, restaurant recommendations and even directions to accessible car parks. There are endless places of beauty and historical interest to visit a short drive away and Sarlat is particularly interesting with its market twice a week. Would thoroughly recommend to friends and family.
We had a great time staying at La Grange with our family - the property is beautiful and the views are truly memorable. The huge yard was a child's dream - our 8 year old could have spent the entire week just playing in the pool, trampoline, swing, table tennis. But we did get out to enjoy the castles, walks around the farms and hills around La Grange were wonderful, and canoeing on the Dordogne river. Chris and Kate were fabulous hosts. Highly recommend for a great vacation getaway!
Situated within the hamlet of La Tour we are two minutes from the pretty village of Sainte Nathalene with a bar, hotel, restaurants and small shop. Just 7 miles from the historical town of Sarlat-la-Caneda with more listed buildings than any other town in Europe and a twice weekly market, it is perfectly placed for access to all of the most beautiful sites in Dordogne and Lot. There are numerous chateaux to visit, caves to explore and pretty market towns to meander through. There is also a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages close by. The Perigord region is famous for it's quality food and wine (of which Sarlat with an array of street entertainment is arguably the capital) available at very affordable rates. For the even more serious wine lover then Bergerac and it's fine wine region is only an hour away. For those that want to sample the local wine then transport can be arranged locally. Please contact us for details of our website and further internal and external pictures.
