relax and enjoy

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a big resort; forget it. If you love great sunsets, a beautiful apartment and being with the locals then Judes place is for you. My wife and two mostly grown kids went with my wife and I. The little beach across the street was perfect. It even had a nice shade tree for me to relax under. The water was clear and cool. I even bought Jude a third noodle. In the mornings the kids would walk down a block and pick up fresh hot bread and buns from the local bakery. Mullins beach is about two miles away complete with beach chairs and food. Lots of nice people there. We found a great local fish market and lots of fresh fruits and vegies to make wonderful evening meals. Judes kitchen is fit for a master chef. Eating dinner and watching the beautiful sunsets ended the perfect days. We'll be back often. Bob Yeager (retired airline pilot).

Amazing location and nice house

  • 5 of 5

Dear Jude,

We had an amazing time in your beautiful, clean, well equipped, airy home with gorgeous views of the Caribbean sea! We enjoyed the beach just across the street as there was nobody there but us and schools of tropical fish, which we observe every morning while snorkeling for hours. There was no sea urchins found there and little rocks, which are actually corals, did not bother us at all. We loved the local vibe of the town and enjoyed talking to local people. We rented a car and drove around the island to explore and find hidden gems, which are many, including the Hunt's garden and St. Nicholas Abby. The monkeys found in the Wildlife reserved were so cute with little babies. One of the monkey's clearly liked my bright summer dress with butterflies and flowers and was circling around me admiring each detail of the print!:))

We discovered the Six's Men fishermen village just 5 min drive from the house as the destination to go to get freshly caught fish directly from fishermen and enjoyed homemade dinner every evening.

Overall, that was an amazing vacation and we would highly recommend it for everybody who likes quite local places within steps from the sea. We've been to many Caribbean islands and Hawaii and Barbados is one of the islands that had everything in one place: 5 hour direct flight from New York, the same time zone (no need to adjust), less probability of hurricanes during hurricane season, plenty of fruit and veggies grown on the island (a big bottle of freshly made coconut water was $6 within 10 min walk from the house, tiny farmer markets in the town here and there), many places to visit, and warm Caribbean sea at your foot steps (the beach is across the local not very busy road).

Thank you and Sarah very much for your hospitality! We would love to come back soon!

Sincerely,

Liliana

Owner's Response: Hello Liliana, many many thanks for taking the time to review your holiday at Coco de Mer. You certainly visited some of the most beautiful places and glad you found the source of fresh fish you were looking for. Six Men's is such a quaint place and I love Huntes Gardens with its abundance of tropical plants and trees. (Did you drink rum punch from a teapot there it's one of the interesting events at the Garden Centre?😄). Look forward to seeing you again soon.. Jude 🌴

Diamond in the rough!!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week in this beautiful unit! First of all, the view is amazing, you will never want to leave!! The sound and view of the ocean is absolutely incredible!! We have traveled the Caribbean and have never had every need satisfied quite like this. Jude has thought of everything to make this a carefree vacation. I really can't think of anything that was missing from the kitchen to the outdoors. The location was perfect, just far enough away to relax and close enough to join in. The snorkeling right in front of our unit was awesome, definitely our preference after traveling to several others. The Heywoods beach was by far our favorite!! The restaurants within walking distance were great!! We loved Jumas, Orange Street Grocer and L'Attitude. The grocery store in Speightstown was sufficient but preferred the one in Holetown due to variety. Bathsheba was definitely worth the trip on the Atlantic side, the views were amazing. We had lunch at the Crane Resort which we would highly recommend. Amazing views and great food!! Sarah was a joy to meet, we called her daily and she made great recommendations to make our vacation the best ever. We did not feel like we missed out on a thing! We can't wait to return to this unit and spend time in this diamond in the rough!!

Owner's Response: Hello Sue, I am delighted that you enjoyed your trip to Coco de Mer so much. Thank you for taking the time to write this special review. Sorry I missed meeting you but had left the island just before your arrival. I do try to keep the standards high in the penthouse, have just installed a new mattress, pillows, fly screens, bedside lamps etc etc. I agree the views out to the ocean are truly wonderful and being so close to all that warm blue water is lovely. I hope you will return next year but hurry we are booking up fast for 2016! My house manager Sarah is very professional as is Pam my housekeeper.. Best wishes Jude☀️🌴🐠🐚⛵️

Stylish and spacious

  • 5 of 5

We are not long back from our stay at Whitesands in Speightstown, our tonic from an English February and if we could, we'd do the same in March, April, May, etc. It's a lovely, stylish apartment with high ceilings and a cool, spacious feel to it that was very much to our taste. Masses of room for the two of us and equally suitable for two couples I would think. There's a cool breeze from back to front that meant we didn't need the air-conditioning at all during our stay. The view from the balcony is of the Caribbean and we swam immediately across the road (with bathing shoes as there are some rocks) which we enjoyed more than the more crowded (but more highly regarded) beach, also accessible just 5 minutes north. Speightstown, I would guess is 'real' Barbados, likeable without being touristified. A short drive south to Holestown gives you all of that aspect of the island. We had a car which gave us easy access to the rest of the island and would recommend Hunte's Garden and Andromeda Botanical Garden. On the practical side, it was very easy to make a booking and Judith provided detailed guidance on finding and using the apartment while Sarah was on-hand to greet us and show us around. Pam gave great service when she came for the weekly maid visit. Highly recommended and just what you see in the photos.

Beautiful apartment in relaxing beach town

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Coco de Mer for one week and wish we could have stayed longer. The apartment is just as well-kept, spacious, and beautiful as it appears in the photos. The balcony overlooking the beach was our favorite spot to relax in the morning and in the evening watching the sunsets. The Speightstown fish market is a short walk away and a great place to get fresh fish to cook. We did our grocery shopping at the two nearby super markets also in walking distance and bought fresh bread at the local bakery. There are beachfront restaurants within walking distance, but we chose to cook and eat the majority of our meals on the balcony.

If you are looking to stay in a less touristy area and experience the local Bajan culture Speightstown is perfect. We took the bus a couple of times from the nearby terminal, but it can take an hour or more to reach destinations in the South of the island.

There are plenty of beaches close to Coco de Mer. We swam in the beach directly in front of the apartment, but it can be rocky. Just a short 3 minute walk there is a long stretch of beach in front of various hotels that is perfect for swimming and also has shaded areas. This was our first time in Barbados and we would definitely come back and happily stay at Coco de Mer again.
