About Karen Roper
Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can, he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others. Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen has been teaching yoga locally for over 6 years and now brings her practice to the Wellness Center (located on site at Acadia Yurts). Karen is also a licensed massage therapist and offers services onsite. As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!

Amazing Stay at Acadia Yurts
My husband and I can't rave enough about our stay - we have been to many travel destinations and our vacation with Acadia Yurts is literally at the top of our list. Obviously Acadia National Park is beautiful but Acadia Yurts is exactly what they say "comfortably close to nature" - it was the perfect mix of reconnecting with nature in a comfortable relaxing environment.... like camping with a full kitchen, comfortable bed and private bathroom/shower... doesn't get much better. Highly recommend. And definitely book a massage, you won't regret it.
"comfortably close to nature". Their business motto could not be any more accurate. What a wonderful glamping yurt! This was a vacation we will never forget and perfect for our family and dog. Very clean and neat. Quiet on the southwest harbor, close to echo lake and plenty of hiking. Easy access. Owners were great with communication.
Totally Awesome Experience
I found out about Acadia Yurts from an add and connected through VRBO. The cost was exactly right for us and we were provided with all necessities and some extras. Check in was not really a check in as we only needed to arrive and retrieve our key from the locked box. Loved that it was super easy. The yurt, the grounds and its overall location was perfect. We enjoyed the quaint Southwest Harbor town center for its food and stores. My kids loved nearby Echo Lake and the nature tour from Island Cruises which departed from Bass Harbor. Also close by was Sea Wall and Wonderland Trail where exploring was so fun. The butterfly park at the end of Seal Cove Rd was gorgeous and we took numerous trips to Bar Harbor for shopping and restaurants. The shoreline trail in Bar Harbor was extremely beautiful and the town’s shops offered an array of different items to browse or buy. Some of the artisan products were amazing and we loved the rock shop and A Little Mad for that especially. A short bus ride from Bar Harbor green to the Dorr Natural History Museum offered a touch tank experience! Acadia National Park was our main destination where we viewed unparalleled natural beauty. Thunder Hole was captivating to our nine year old. Sand Beach, again “gorgeous”, Jordan Pond the same with its views of The Bubbles, Cadillac Mountain and Gorham Loop Trail’s panoramic views and the drive around Park Loop Road the experience of a lifetime. Returning to our yurt from every trip was a restful relief and we enjoyed everything about its uniqueness. Check out was equally as easy and we left not without a purchase of Acadia Yurt T-shirts for all four of us. There’s more to see and explore so we’d love to return to the area sometime and I wouldn’t hear of staying anywhere different!
Wonderful vacation place. The Yurts are lovely.
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay! We are thrilled you had a wonderful vacation and look forward to the possibility of hosting you next time you venture this way!
We spent 3 nights with our 3 year old, 17 month old and black lab. The property was quiet, peaceful and beautiful. The yurt was awesome! All the basic amenities you could need, comfortable and spacious!
Southwest Harbor is a gem; not too far from Acadia and bar Harbor but tucked away from the congestion.
Highly recommend Acadia Yurts!
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay! It was such a joy to see you and your family enjoying the property- and the cute drawings hanging on the fridge :)
The yurt was everything we wanted and more! It was comfy but spacious
