2 bed quiet studio cottage that is a hub to all the region has on offer
'Druí Cottage' is a small self catering cottage that is part of my property situated on a beautiful scenic hillside near Shannon, Galway, Limerick and just a one hour drive to the spectacular Wild Atlantic way coastline. Secluded among rolling hills, this welcoming natural stone cottage gets it's name from it's town-land name Glendree, which means 'Glen of Druids'.
It's ideal for a quick break away, holiday or even work such as writing, blogging, painting or photography. Those who are working also need a break, so a quick trip out to visit a place of interest or an even quicker walk up the hill to refresh, is always good.
Although I live beside the cottage I respect my guests privacy, you might occasionally see me and for lone travelers, you have the comfort of knowing that you are not entirely alone, on this calm country hillside.
Druí cottage has a well equipped kitchen, is open plan with a loft space bedroom; please take note of the rustic and securely fixed wooden ladder as seen in the photos. The bed is a comfortable mattress on the floor as the height of a full bed would be too near the ceiling. There is also a single bed downstairs with extra linens and bedding in cupboard.
The bathroom is in a separate room and the kitchen is in the main room which has a high airy ceiling.
There is a welcome basket of tea, coffee, scones, butter & jam, the usual condiments and fresh water on tap from a natural spring well. Organic seasonal vegetables can be found on a stall just across the road, run on trust, you just put the money in an honesty box on the table.
Broadband Internet is installed in the cottage at no extra cost. The heating is SOLID FUEL with fuel supplied at no extra cost, hairdryer and iron too. However the option of an electric heater and washing machine does cost extra per stay, this is because many guests do not require these facilities and I feel it's fair not to include it in the general fee.
The kitchen has a small stock of tea, coffee, sugar, spices and oil so that you can enjoy a home cooked meal without having to buy all those little necessary ingredients.
If you are arriving late in the day with no time for a grocery shop, you can email me a list of items in advance and I will be happy to pick up what is required.
In the nearby area there are many scenic walks, music, horse riding, fishing, golf, restaurants and local pubs to enjoy.
I work from home designing and handcrafting landscape inspired knitwear and accessories in pure natural yarns that are super soft and kind to sensitive skin. My guests enjoy a 15%
PS.During the winter season this cottage is available for long term letting with an agreed price. Contact for more information

About Stephanie Gahan
I was born and raised in Dublin, later after some study and travel I settled in Co.Clare where I raised my children and now have adorable grandchildren. I love adventure and presently staying as much time as possible in France, where like in Ireland I love to hike coastal paths and hillsides, gathering inspiration for my soul and designs. "Look into nature and you will understand everything" Albert Einstein
Stephanie Gahan purchased this Cottage in 1991
Why Stephanie Gahan chose County Clare
I enjoy renovating this 300year old property which although situated on a quiet rural hillside in East Clare, it is a hub for the river Shannon and airport, Galway city and county, the amazing 'Wild Atlantic way,' the Burren national park, Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher, Castles, Megalithic sites and much more. The area is peaceful and the cottage is welcome home to after being out and about exploring the landscape or visiting the nearby towns and cities.
What makes this Cottage unique
I love this area with it's clean air, spring water, nature, space, calmness, small roads and country walks with friendly neighbours. We now have the local honesty shop just across the road, where you can buy seasonal organic veg and eggs from happy free range chickens on the nearby farm!

This cottage is wonderfully quiet and well appointed for a self-catered stay in East Clare!
My wife and I stayed in this cottage for 9 days, spanning the period over Christmas and New Year's Day. Being a traditional musician, I can't think of a place I'd rather be than nestled between Feakle and Tulla, with easy access to Ennis, Galway, and Limerick with a car! (Note: This cottage is on a one lane, residential road - if you're renting a car, you'll be more comfortable with a small one!)
Stephanie, being an artist, also decorated the cottage for us, giving us the welcoming feeling of the season even so far from home. She welcomed us with fresh scones when we arrived, and had the stove fired up with the cottage at a comfortable temperature.
More than any other trip to Ireland, we chose to do the vast majority of our own meal preparation. Both preparing dishes that were being taken to a friend's house on Christmas Eve and Christmas, and just our normal daily routine. The kitchen turned out to be just what we needed, with all of the pots, pans, silverware, glassware, and serving platters provided, as well as a modest pantry which met our needs. And with a little organic farm stand literally 50 feet from the front door, we had everything we needed!
Unlike many self-catering locations we've used in Ireland before, Stephanie also provided us with both peat and wood fuel to keep the cottage cozy during what turned out to be a fairly stormy week! And if you're unfamiliar with using a stove for heat, Stephanie will even show you the ropes.
The bed was workable for two people, although, it is in a loft accessed by a solid wood ladder. I would be cautious if you're uncomfortable climbing a ladder up and down to go to bed. We didn't have any problems with it. And the shower worked just great for two people, especially if you afford time between showers, or can get in and out quickly.
We loved our stay, and it felt like we were saying goodbye to good friends when we left Stephanie and Rob behind to travel back to the U.S. We will definitely stay here again!
Amazing irish country experience!
It was so nice to have a 'home base' during our adventures in Ireland. The cottage was located centrally to the major sites we wanted to see including Aran Islands & the Cliffs, Cashel, Holy Island and Limerick. It was a cozy country setting which inspired wonderful off the grid relaxation.
Absolutely loved our stay here.
We loved the cottage! Stephanie was so helpful with emails and directions, she made sure to have someone available to us if we needed anything. (Thank you Fiona!) The cottage is close enough to different sites without being surrounded by the noise of the city. We would love to stay here again when we make our way back to Ireland.
Thanks again Stephanie!
