'Druid Cottage' is a small self catering cottage which is part of my property situated on a beautiful scenic hillside near Shannon, Galway, Limerick and just a one hour drive to the spectacular Wild Atlantic way coastline. Secluded among rolling hills, this welcoming natural stone cottage gets it's name from it's town-land name Glendree, which means 'Glen of Druids'.
It's ideal for a quick break away, holiday or even work such as writing, blogging, painting or photography. Those who are working also need a break, so a quick trip out to visit a place of interest or an even quicker walk up the hill to refresh, is always good.
Although I live beside the cottage I respect my guests privacy, you might occasionally see me and for lone travelers, you have the comfort of knowing that you are not entirely alone, on this calm country hillside.
Druid cottage has a well equipped kitchen, is open plan with a loft space bedroom; please take note of the rustic and securely fixed wooden ladder as seen in the photos. The bed is a comfortable mattress on the floor as the height of a full bed would be too near the ceiling. There is also a single bed downstairs with extra linens and bedding in cupboard.
The bathroom is in a separate room and the kitchen is off the main room which has a high airy ceiling.
The kitchen shelves store tea, coffee, the usual condiments. Seasonal Organic vegetables can be found on a stall just across the road, run on trust, you just put the money in an honesty box on the table. Unpasteurised, milk, cheese and yogurt can also be bought from the organic farm which is a small walk up the lane.
Broadband Internet is installed in the cottage at no extra cost. The heating is electric background heat with the added bonus of a cozy wood burning stove. we have a started pack of wood by the stove and you can pick up extra at service stations, grocery stores and merchants in the area.
The hairdryer is small and there also an iron and board, however the use of washing machine and dryer does cost extra per stay, this is because many guests do not require these facilities and I feel it's fair not to include it in the general fee, again there is an honesty box by the machines for you to deposit your contribution.
If you are arriving late in the day with no time for a grocery shop, you can email me a list of items in advance and I will be happy to pick up what is required or reserve you a table in the nearby bar restaurant where the serve the local Loudan's ale a family run brewery just down the road from Druid cottage.
In the nearby area we have alternative therapies such as Thai massage, Hot stone massage, Reiki and Indian head massage. Also some classes such as healing food cookery and silver jewelry making, it is best to book these courses in advance of your stay.
I work from home designing landscape inspired knitted accessories in pure natural yarns that are super soft and kind to sensitive skin. My guests enjoy a 15%
PS.During the winter season this cottage is available for long term letting for an agreed price. Contact for more information
