About the property

Stresa Location

Stresa is a small, beautiful and elegant town on Lake Maggiore which lies at the foot of the Italian Alps. It has many good restaurants, bars and grand hotels and is the ideal place for either a relaxing or more active holiday.

The Stresa Location rental is situated in a period house, in the pedestrian area in the historic centre of Stresa.

It is a 3 minutes' walk from the beach and lake and 100 metres from the ferry where you can take a boat trip across Lake Maggiore and to the Borromean Islands, or even to Switzerland. You can also swim in the lake, go sailing, water-skiing and diving. There are many fully-equipped beaches along the lake and public swimming pools.

Recently renovated, this apartment has been finished to a high standard and tastefully furnished in a modern style. There is a terrace at back with table and chairs, where you can eat outside or simply relax in the sun.

It is close to many restaurants, boutiques, shops and cafes and near to the Palazzo dei Congressi (congress hall). There is an excellent supermarket, Carrefour, 3 minutes' walk away. Free parking 200-300 metres away and relatively cheap pay-parking a few minutes' walk away by the lake.

The apartment is 32 km from Milan Malpensa International Airport and 85 km from Milan itself. From the end March to the middle of October there is a bus service called Alibus running directly from Malpensa airport to the church on the lake, a few minutes from the apartment itself. It takes less than an hour.

It is 10-15 minutes' walk from the railway station with direct train to Milan and is near the bus-stop for the lakeside towns of Verbania and Arona.

Fast, free WiFi Internet, air-conditioning and central heating. Satellite TV. The apartment is available all year round; minimum stay 3 days.

Baby bed and high-chair available

Perfect location in a fun little town

  • 5 of 5

Could not ask for a better location! Stresa is a fun little town and this apartment has both a deck on the street and a back veranda. Just a block from the lake and ferry, and a 15 minute walk to the train station. We walked both ways. Lots of shopping and restaurants right outside the door. Hope to stay in the same spot again sometime!

We didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was perfect: location was ideal, lovely, large terrace was perfect for outdoor dining and the apartment itself was surprisingly spacious and immaculate. The manager, Guilliano, couldn't have been nicer; he even treated us to a pizza when we encountered him in the little restaurant downstairs.

If we are lucky enough to return to Stresa, we will definitely stay in this apartment again.

Thank you, Chantal!

Stresa delight

  • 5 of 5

Now back safe n sound and just wished to let you know we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Stresa. What a delightful part of the world and Stresa is a really pretty town.

The apartment was absolutely perfect – just what we were looking for. We were only inside the apartment to sleep otherwise we were out and about or sitting on the terrace at the back or the balcony at the front.

Giuliano could not have been more helpful and made us feel most welcome – please pass on our thanks once again to him.

And thanks to you for all your help and advice in making what turned out to be a wonderful holiday.

The property was extremely well kept, and laid out, although bed was put away daily (our preference). Giuliano was more than helpful and obliging, nothing was any problem. We had a really comfortable and enjoyable stay, and would certainly stay again if in the area.

Listing description accurate.

Did all the tourist things, stayed in Stresa for 2 weeks and did not run out of good restuarants, Vicoletta was best formal, best informal Papagallos (the parrot one)

Accommodation was a great find.

Smartly spacious and good location

  • 4 of 5

The property was clean and tidy. We enjoyed the clever space saving solutions and the beds were very comfortable. Both the front deck and back patio were wonderful for dinner. We would absolutely stay here again!

Absolutely perfect

  • 5 of 5

The property was cosy, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Ideally situated in the centre of Stresa but not noisy. The owner was more than helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we would definitely stay again.

Stresa is a beautiful, elegant town on Lake Maggiore and it lies at the foot of the Italian Alps. It is graced with fine Liberty-style architecture, an abundance of colourful gardens and a long promenade bordering the lake.

The town itself is only 50 km from Milano Malpensa Airport, and 85 km from Milan. The apartment is 800 metres from Stresa railway station with direct train to central Milan (45 mins) and only a short walk (100 metres) from the lake. The bus stop for lakeside towns of Arona and Verbania is a few minutes' walk as well as the bus stop for the Alibus service which runs a shuttle service to and from the Milan airports.

The apartments are located in a period house in the historic centre. All are very modern, newly-refurbished and fully equipped with free Internet WiFi, Satellite Television and Air Condtioning.

The area is pedestrianised but there is parking very nearby on the lake and free parking within 200-300 metres. It is also very close to the Palazzo dei Congressi.

There are numerous restaurants, cafés, shops and supermarket in the immedicate vicinity.

At the lake, you will find the ferry boats that take you to the Borromean Islands of Isola Bella with its Baroque palace and Italianate gardens, Isola Madre with its museum (a former Borromeo palace) and botanical gardens and Isola dei Pescatori (a quaint fishing island, which is still inhabited and has several fish restaurants and gift shops). You can also visit other lakeside towns such as Intra and Laveno by ferry or even go all the way to Switzerland.

The cable-car which whisks you up the Mottarone mountain (1500m) is within walking distance and from its summit you can admire the most spectacular view of not only Lake Maggiore but the 6 other Alpine lakes as well as Monte Rosa.

For garden lovers there are the Villa Taranto, the Alpinia Gardens and Villa Pallavicino to discover. For music-lovers, Stresa hosts the world-famous music festival which runs every year from June to September - for schedule of events.

The romantic and delightful Lake Orta can be visited in a day from Stresa and boasts the beautiful island of San Giulio in the middle of the lake and the Franciscan chapels of Sacro Monte (a Unesco heritage site). Also worth visiting are the hermitage of Santa Caterina and Rocca Angera, a medieval fortress with fantastic views from the ancient tower.

Stresa is an ideal place for walking with stunning mountain scenery, whether it is for a gentle stroll along the nearby passeggiata with its grand hotels or for more serious hiking such as in the Val Grande Nature Reserve. All the water-sports are available on the lake (water-skiing, sailing, swimming, wind-surfing) and in the winter months, you can ski, go snow-boarding and ice-skating.

There is mountain biking and tours with expert guides who know the area well are available on request. Tennis, riding and numerous golf-courses. The trenino tour of the area departs from Stresa car-park on the lake and is fun for all the family! There is also a beach and children's playground by the lake.

I have other holiday rentals in Stresa and on Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta, Lake Garda and Lake Como - please contact me for details.
