Casa da Montanha, (Mountain house) is located in a farm close to the Douro Valley were the Port Wine is produced, (12 km) that has been recently recognized by Unesco as world heritage. Close by are historical villages, medieval monasteries, and a fascinating medieval village almost intact since the 12th century. Being so close to the river Douro this makes possible for visitors to envoy trips by boat on the river including the visit to wine cellars. This property that covers 8 acres, lawns, shrubs, and trees most of them oak, has been in my family for the last 200 years, the house is located at 750 metres high with a spectacular view over a beautiful valley facing a mountain of great beauty. Sitting in the garden or by the pool, gazing the view, breathing fresh air, it's a great place to relax due to the fact of being totally isolated in nature, the nearest house is the owners house at a distance of 60 metres .

Jose was very helpful meeting us at a nearby location and taking us to the property. He made sure we had anything we might need and shared information about the local area that we really appreciated and made the most of. The house is quiet and peaceful just as we wanted making for a lovely retreat to relax and explore the Douro Valley further.
Thanks a lot for coming and thanks for your kind comments. Hope to see you again.
Beautiful mountain house
This house is worth the drive to get to! It has a beautiful view and is comfortable and unique. Jose was great to deal with. Met us in town to show us the way to the house. He is very friendly and helpful with suggestions of what to do in the area. We had a great stay. Thank You!
Thanks a lot for your comments dear friends
We stayed in this wonderful house for 4 nights and could not have been happier! The view is gorgeous and it was so peaceful and relaxing. The weather was very hot and we enjoyed the pool immensely. It was a great area in which to explore the Douro Valley. Jose was full of suggestions and tips and had lots of maps, guides, etc. available. Lamego was delightful and very close by. Also 2 large grocery stores not far away for everything you need. This place is a little slice of heaven. Great if you want to leave the real world behind and get away. (Although the wifi and TV worked great.) Many thanks to Jose for the warm Portoguese welcome for our first trip to this amazing country.
More picturesque in real life!
Peaceful in the day with a stunning view and atmosphere in the evening.
I only hope that I can return again to experience the pleasure of your cabin, Jose.
Thank you very much I'm happy that you both enjoyed to stay here.
Stunning view in a stunning location. This Beautifully restored cottage offers every comfort and is well situated to take in the Douro Valley. Jose the owner is convivial, welcoming and helpful, he goes the extra mile to ensure your visit is a success in every way. A car is a must. We have wonderful memories to take home to Australia with us...thankyou Jose!
Thank you so much Glenn and Melinda, it was a great pleasure to meet you.
We wanted a place to get away from it all. We couldn't have found a better place if we'd searched for years and years.
The pictures on the web site don't do justice to seeing the real thing.
The owner Jose is a lovely guy who would do anything he could to make your stay the best it could be.
The cottage has everything you need for that stress free holiday your looking for, Satellite TV (but to be honest the view out of the window is far better than anything on the TV) Good Internet connection, Swimming pool is spotless, the cottage is well situated for travelling to all the beautiful places around. But after being out getting back to the cottage is never a disappointment, just get yourself a glass of wine or a beer and sit on the patio by the pool and watch the sun go down listening to the bird song all around you, before going down into Lamego for a lovely meal at one of the many restaurant/bars.
I hope this review gets across how much we enjoyed our stay there, but don't take my word for it, just book it and experience it for yourself.
Ps. Jose if you want a maintenance man to look after the place for you, just give me a call I'll be there as fast as I can.

The Mountain house is located in the mountain region that involves the Douro Valley, were Port Wine is produced. This surrounding area is considered as the treasure of Portuguese Medieval architecture heritage. In this region you can visit a considerable number of Norman churches and Cistercians Monasteries dating from early middle ages. The house is at 15 minutes distance of reasonable good restaurants as well as a big supermarket. Placed at 135 km from the iconic city of Oporto.
