Enjoy the LACK of noise, crowds, or pretensions. Bring your own horses and ride the trails! You can also rent horses as well. 'Civilization' is 30 minutes away (Boone, Blowing Rock, Wilkesboro, and Lenoir, North Carolina). Once you visit and enjoy the cool mountain breeze you will not want to leave!
We built this cabin on a dream with little money and a lot of sweat-equity.....in the days when Leatherwood had no bans against noise on the weekends! Started the foundation in May, 1993 and finished in December, 1993! Truly a labor of love! We have pictures of this process in a photo book on the coffee table. Our cabin holds so many precious memories for our family and friends. You'll be hard pressed to find a better view as you sit on our deck---the reason the original developer ear-marked this property as his own. Peaceful, charming, gorgeous views....all tucked away in privacy. Come enjoy our labor-of-love.....and leave your worries behind!
We headed for Blue Ridge from Washington to get away from the grind. We weren't disappointed at Idle Spur! This cozy cabin tucked in the gated Leatherwood Ranch was even better than we expected. From our late night arrival until our departure we felt totally at home in this cabin in the woods. We had a minor issue getting into the gated community, but he owner was a phone call away and saved the day. The hot tub was our highlight as were the nightly wood burning fires. The weather warmed and offered a nice hike along the Daniel Boone trail. The "ready-to-bake" pizza from down at the community center was a nice break from the home cooked meals. Best for single family vice multiples.
This home was very adequate for the 2 couples who stayed to enjoy fall foliage in the Carolina mountains. Since the third room is a bunk room, I would not recommend it for 3 couples. The location suited us well for day trips to Blowing Rock, Boone, and Grandfather Mountain. The home had an unexpected Texas flair, which seemed only slightly out of place in NC given the horse theme of the Leatherwood Stables. We had a minor plumbing issue, and the owner was immediately available by phone. He was very helpful and resolved the problem within hours. Our favorite parts of the home were the view from the deck and the outdoor hot tub for star-gazing (although we did have trouble with the jets). The home could use some updating and a few more towels (and bathmats), but the location, space plan, and view were great. A nice home!
Had a wonderful time at this beautiful cabin! We enjoyed family time together taking in all of the nature that surrounds your property!. It was a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life...the serenity and beauty of the mountains was amazing as we walked, hiked, biked and fished the Leatherwoods Mountains community. The cabin was perfect for our family....clean, great layout and specatular views. Perfect for kids, families and couples!
