We are quiet, retired professors who enjoy sailing, skiing, travelling and reading. We have travelled much of the world, but we love Maine and would not want to live anywhere else.
Ginny purchased this Apartment in 1952
Why Ginny chose Surry
My parents bought the property in 1952. My father was an Air Force Officer so we lived all over the United States, but every summer we came to Maine. As children we loved our summers in Maine, and as adults we grew to love the other seasons as well (especially fall and winter!) My husband and I built our retirement home on the property in 2002 and added the apartment for family and friends in 2004. We began renting the apartment to the public in 2015 and have truly enjoyed sharing this beautiful place with guests from all over the world.
What makes this Apartment unique
It is unusual on the east coast of the US to see mountains right next to the ocean, but Acadia National Park offers this unique scenery, and we have a wonderful view of this from our front porch. We love the quiet pace of Newbury Neck -- biking on the road, walking on our wooded trails, enjoying the beach, and simply soaking in the amazing views.

Secluded, yet close enough to everything!
Firstly, what a location! The home is set way back from the road, which dead ends at the end of the peninsula. Sitting on the deck, we enjoyed wide views over acres of this beautiful private property of lawn and a blueberry field, to the bay and mountains beyond.
Having summered in this area for many years, we know and love this perfect and secluded corner of Maine. The idyllic village of nearby Blue Hill offers many art galleries, a few select shops, restaurants, historic homes and more. For serious Maine shopping, Ellsworth, is a few miles away. And, of course, nearby Acadia Park and Bar Harbor, as well as other scenic villages, are legendary. All this and more is there for you, yet you are located in a quiet, scenic spot far away from the crowds! By, the way, walk to Perry’s Lobster Shack, where you can enjoy the best Maine Lobster on the pier, byob, and walk back home.
Ginny and Denny are amazing hosts. They are pleasant, available in case you need something, yet unobtrusive. They have thought of everything their guests might desire, before we the guests even knew what we wanted! There were 4 bikes and helmets waiting for our use. With life jackets supplied in the apartment, walk down to the boathouse, where swallows nest in the roof, and find 4 kayaks provided for guests! Beach towels are also supplied; as are first aid kits and more!
The apartment itself is well maintained and super clean. Snow white bedding and towels, comfortable mattresses, and a kitchen perfectly equipped, down to a good solid ice cream scoop!
This home away from home is a true treasure, and we feel very lucky to have found it.
Maine escape in paradise!
This is a wonderful place to stay if visiting the Acadia area. It is just enough off the beaten path to be away from the busy tourist areas, yet close enough to restaurants, groceries, and Acadia. Ginny was very welcoming and a great resource to help us have a fantastic vacation. The rental was spotless, had everything you could possible need, and was truly a peaceful retreat. I'm not going to describe anything more because I hope her future visitors are just as pleasantly surprised as we were with everything this vrbo has to offer. Thank you, Ginny!
New England Trip
Our trip took us to Acadia National Park. We stayed in Surry and could see Cadillac Mountain across the bay. Our place was wonderful. Fully equipped to meet all our needs. Quiet and peaceful and our hosts were there if we needed them. We are already planning to go back just to stay for a week just to enjoy this amazing place. Thanks for having us.
An amazing relaxing time
Ginny was a fabulous host! She met us when we arrived and showed us everything. She left cute little notes every where to make our stay comfortable. The scenery from the home is breathtaking and we could walk to the beach in minutes. They had bikes for us and kayaks. Dash got to play with their puppy Abby. They even helped us setup a campfire on the beach. Overall we all had a really relaxing fun experience at their home. We will definitely visit again soon and stay longer.
Peaceful, picturesque and comfortable
We spent a long weekend in Ginny and Dennis’s lovely apartment. The apartment was well organized, very clean, spacious and perfect for the two of us and our dog. The apartment will easily accommodate four people as there are two nicely sized, private bedrooms and two bathrooms. The mountain and water views and easy water access from the apartment is exceptional, our only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer! Ginny and Dennis are caring and kind hosts who are there when you need them or will give you all the privacy you desire. We hope to return next season for more lobster and hiking adventures in nearby Acadia national Park!
We loved our stay at the Gibsons. They were extremely attentive to us. We had everything we needed and more. We just wish we'd had longer to stay.
We are located on a scenic peninsula with beautiful views of Acadia National Park across the bay. To see a wider view of our location and the surrounding area, zoom out by clicking 4 times on the '-' sign on the Google Map above.
Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are 35 miles (45 minutes) away by car - close enough for an easy day trip for sightseeing and shopping - but far enough away to escape the crowds and cruise ships at the end of the day. We are 12 miles from the village of Blue Hill, known for its excellent restaurants, art galleries, summer concerts and a beautiful hiking trail to the top of Blue Hill Mountain.
Our peninsula, 'Newbury Neck', is a popular destination in Maine. Our property has 1000 feet of private beach accessible by a five-minute walk or by car down our private drive. The Newbury Neck Road is about 7 miles long (see Google Map above) and is a very pleasant bike ride through trees and open fields. The apartment faces east, so from the deck or living room you can watch a beautiful sun/moonrise over the mountains and bay.
We have about 10 acres of wild blueberry fields on the property. Depending on weather, the blueberries usually ripen in August. You are welcome to watch us harvest our berries or pick some yourselves if the fields are producing during your visit.
Fall foliage is always worth seeing. A walk in the woods or a drive through the countryside may offer glimpses of breathtaking colors. The leaves usually start changing color in mid-September and peak by mid-October.
