I have never written a review before, but I felt inclined to do so for this house. I rented this house as a surprise for my boyfriends 40th birthday along with 6 of his friends. I have never rented a house before where the pictures are actually not as good as the real thing. Some of the pictures are not updated also......which was a nice surprise. The picture of the family room does not show the actual HUGE TV that is now there. This was amazing for watching all the college footballs games during the weekend we visited. The kitchen is an absolute dream, with anything and everything you could ask for. Our group has already talked about doing this trip again next year. What an amazing house with the most spectacular view. Thank you to the owner for sharing your home with us!!! Cant wait to come back.
We stayed in this rental with two other families and still talk about the fun we had. The house is in a stunning location - very private and secluded - and it's possible to take very picturesque walks from the home. The kitchen is well stocked and the mattresses are dreamy! I have no complaints whatsoever. We booked this place ironically because of the ridiculous review at the bottom complaining about swallow nests outside. We love all wildlife and thought "wow, actual swallow nests! How cool is that?" The birds are numerous (and do not divebomb you) and wonderful to watch while you sit outside on the patio enjoying a local bottle of wine. I recommend seal watching and having lunch at Sebastian's. Thank you for a memorable holiday. We will definitely return!
This is a beautifully scenic, wonder-filled location and a very comfortable house. The views are spectacular, especially in the early morning and at sunset, and the home is perfectly situated on the property to take advantage of the changing vistas. The house is so full of creature comforts, you may not want to leave. But, you'll want to take advantage of all there is to see and do in the area.
The kitchen is large and open to the dining room, perfect for more than one cook or entertaining a large group. The great room has a large TV and a fireplace to enjoy movies or a quiet evening. The furniture is comfortably over-sized. The house has lots of windows so you can enjoy the stunning views wherever you are. The master bath has great ranch views from both the jetted tub and shower. All of the bedrooms are comfortable with plenty of closet space and more windows.
This property boasts swallows, owls, hawks, coyotes, rabbits and lots of ground squirrels. There was a herd of nearly 50 Tule elk just north of the house. And, of course the Elephant Seal Preserve is just a few miles south of the house. There is the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse and Hearst Castle nearby.
There are several wineries offering tastings and some very good local restaurants. The Main Street Grill in Cambria has a terrific tri-tip sandwich. Sebastian's (more of a snack bar) inside the historic general store/post office in San Simeon makes delicious sandwiches. Try the Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich on a french roll--but share with someone--it's huge! The little store building also houses the Hearst Ranch Winery and sells Hearst Ranch beef.
The owner is conscientious and very easy to contact. Seriously, this house is a perfect location for sightseeing, exploring the Central coast or simply relaxing with a good book.
We just enjoyed our second vacation at Rancho Piedras Blancas and have to say that this property is perfect for gathering with our family members from all over the state. The large layout on a single story is great for multiple generations, with bedrooms on the exterior and beautiful ocean and mountain views in the centralized living room, kitchen, and dining room spaces. The master bedroom is massive (bigger than most hotel rooms) with an entire wall of windows facing the coast.
And, what a treat to enjoy the large property with our 3 year old twins – the little suburbanites marveled at the coyotes, owls, squirrels, rabbits, hawks, swallows, sea lions, and other wildlife that make this place so special. For those who love the nature of the central coast but also enjoy the comforts of home, the remoteness and beauty of this property is an extraordinary experience.
We have plenty of favorite things within a short drive to please the entire family: horseback riding at Outback, the lighthouse tour, Linn’s pies, Hearst beach, playground at Shamel park, the farmers market on Friday, gourmet sandwiches from Sebastian’s, and baja mochas from Cambria Coffee. Or, just sit in the tub and watch the black cows grazing on golden hills.
The property is in excellent condition, extremely clean when we arrived and well stocked with linens, cookware, and paper products. We also noticed some upgrades to the video and BBQ which were much appreciated. A word of warning: if you stay here, you may start to wish that you owned this incredible place and daydream about it between visits, like we do. Many thanks to the owner for sharing this rare estate!
This house is the perfect embodiment of Central Coast living. It's location is absolutely perfect, between Hearst open range and the Pacific Ocean, close enough to Cambria for a night out or groceries, yet far enough away from city lights to stargaze. Sunrises every morning, sunsets every night.. swallows swooping in chaotic formations in the afternoon, coyotes cruising the landscape in the evenings. Bring some wine and a good book. Cook meals in the large kitchen or BBQ out on the back porch while the sun sets in the ocean. Enjoy the three fireplaces. This house provides the perfect location to relax in a peaceful setting. 4 large bedrooms, the master bedroom has enough space to be an apartment on its own. Large common area, kitchen, and dining room. We loved our stay! Hearst Castle is 10 minutes down the road. Hiking in Big Sur is just a short drive up the road.
The house is stocked with all basic items, linens, coffee maker, pots and pans, serving utensils, etc. Bring your own toiletries (of course) and food to cook. There is nothing extravagant except for the views and peace and quiet. This is a good base to enjoy what the Central Coast is all about - scenery, wine, food, and easy living.
This house is very spacious with beautiful views. Very accommodating for large groups. Excellent kitchen with great appliances. Will stay again and recommend to others.
Hearst Castle, Galleries, Cinemas(Hearst Castle), Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Sanctuary which is a national wildlife refuge, Piedras Blancas Lighthouse, Zebras on Hearst Ranch, Worldclass Windsurfing beach, and the wildlife of the animal kingdom.
