Brittany and Robert Gonzales
About Brittany and Robert Gonzales
Want to hear a love story? Once upon a time there was a boy and a girl who lived around the corner from each other in Nashville, Tennessee. It was a good life, but they worked all the time and, sadly, never met. But they shared this crazy dream of someday living on a tropical island. Somehow, some way, the girl moved to St. John in 2010, and the boy found her there when he moved in 2011. They fell in love, got married, bought some real estate and fixed it up real nice, and started Island Abodes! Brittany MacNealy was born and raised in the Mississippi delta. After college at Mississippi State (Hail State!) she moved to Nashville to run fundraising for a great nonprofit. Her parents will tell you that she dreamed of living at the beach since she was a little girl. So in 2010, after 5 “cold Nashville winters, she moved to St. John to be the Director of Fun at the Westin St. John. For 4 years she oversaw Resort activities and managed the pool and Kids Club. It was a great experience and awesome training for Island Abodes’ future GM! Robert Gonzales was born and raised in New Orleans and moved to Nashville in 1991 for law school at Vanderbilt. As a business lawyer, he specialized in restructuring companies. He worked hard and built a great practice. But ask his long time law partner or mentor and they’ll tell you something like “Robert always said he wouldn’t sit at a desk forever. Twenty years in Nashville seemed like long enough. So, in 2011 he relocated to the islands he’d been visiting for over 10 years, met Brittany, and the rest is history! When were not helping guests, we love to explore the North Shore on paddle boards and hike the National Park trails with our coconut retriever” Morgan. Brittany also volunteers at Gifft Hill School and the Animal Care Center. And Robert is an ordained minister who officiates beach weddings. He’s also big into tropical fruit farming, so be sure to ask him what’s ripe! We look forward to welcoming you!
Why Brittany and Robert Gonzales chose Estate Chocolate Hole and Great Cruz Bay
The location is close to all of Cruz Bay's bars, restaurants and shopping, but far enough away for peace and tranquility. Indoor and outdoor living rooms, native stone work, fruit gardens, easy access just above South Shore Road.

We Couldn't Have Asked For a Better Experience!
From the beginning, communicating with the owner/manager Brittany was a breeze. She was so friendly and responded immediately, sometimes within minutes, to every email from the time of booking to the day of arrival. Once on island, she was able to have the villa ready earlier than check-in time which made our journey that much sweeter. On an early morning walk, I ran into KC and Basil, the on island vacation hosts, who couldn't have been any friendlier. They had sent a welcome email the day after our arrival to make sure we were settled in and we sure were. We were drawn by the photos of the villa and wowed once we walked through the front door. The spacious great room opened up to the large deck and inviting pool complete with floats and noodles, a super comfy resort type lounge, patio set, and Weber grill. Morning coffee with the view was the perfect start to the day. Hanging on the deck, in the pool, grilling often, we thoroughly enjoyed family time with our two sons, one who will soon graduate college the other off to the U.S. Air Force. The bedrooms were perfect - bedding was very comfortable and the A/C and fans throughout the house made the intense summer heat a distant memory. Every switch was clearly labeled so there was no guessing as to what switch turned on which light. Spending most of our days at the glorious beaches and jetting into town (which was so close) for happy hour and dinner, it was such a treat to come back to our home away from home. The closest market is walking distance and has everything you need, though you do have to brave a few hills. We only brought carry-on bags for ten days but, from the welcome basket complete with breakfast treats, snacks and couzies to the shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers in the showers to the endless coffee pods for the Keurig coffee machine, much to my delight, we made it to the end of our stay without having to purchase any of these items. It seems insignificant in the grand scheme but it was those little touches that made our stay at Down Yonder one of the most memorable of our St. John vacations. Bonus - you get to take home anything with the Island Abodes logo on it as a souvenir-coffee mugs, cups, couzies...
Having lived on St. John and returning often for vacation, hands down, Island Abodes and Down Yonder Villa take the prize. I would stay again and recommend anyone to stay here, or at any of the Island Abodes properties, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. Amazing!!!
This is our 7th trip to beautiful St. John & 1st since the hurricane. Garden Suite was great for my husband & I. We loved having breakfast on the beautiful patio. It is conveniently located to Cruz Bay & all the beaches, quiet, comfortable & great amenities. We will stay here again. Thank you Island Abodes!
Charming with great location
Charming garden suite with everything you could possibly need in a great, quiet location to enjoy all the beauty of St John.
Had a great stay last week of April 2019. Really cozy villa made for a wonderful visit to St John.
Great Stay in Chocolate Hole
We enjoyed staying at the Garden Suite for our trip. The house was equipped with everything we needed. We usually bring our own beach towels even when rentals provide them, since the provided ones are usually small and kind of thin. This was not the case at the Garden Suite- our beach towels stayed in our suitcase since the ones in the house were big, soft, and fluffy. There were even extra sets of beach towels and bathroom towels to use during the stay in case we needed them. The sheets on the bed were super soft and comfy. Nice views on the patio and a great secluded feeling with all the plants giving you privacy from the surrounding area. We enjoyed breakfast and planning our day on the patio each morning. The extra bin of assorted sunblocks, bug sprays, and especially aloe has super helpful as we ended up getting burned despite our numerous applications of sunblock. Easy access to main roads, the Starfish Market, and downtown area. It wasn't far of a drive to go to the beaches along the North Shore either. It is a little close to the main road and it can get a little noisy at times, but there were even ear plugs provided in case we had difficulty sleeping. Brittany was such an amazing and helpful host! She gave us tons of extra tips that were helpful during our stay and for traveling to/from the island. We will definitely look for other Island Abode rentals for future stays.
Garden Suite in Paradise
The Garden Suite was the perfect 2 room apartment with a lovely covered porch. It had a cute little water view. It is on the smaller size but perfect for 2 people. My daughter and I totally enjoyed our stay. It was clean. Very private. Close enough to everything. We cooked a few meals on the outdoor grill and ate at near by restaurants the other days. Garden Suite had thoughtful amenities to get you started. Coffee :) Tea :) Snack Bowl :) Cooler and Beach chairs were a plus! We stayed 9 nights and wished it could have been longer! Would definitely go back.
