Great location, but cottage in need of updating
The cottage is in a great location with easy access to castles, gardens, the Dordogne river. However, the photos of the cottage are not accurate. The lounge now has a very uncomfortable futon and a leather sofa which is also not very comfortable. There was no DVD player. The whole cottage is tired and in need of a good clean and updating. The wardrobe in the master bedroom was very small, about 80 cm wide and 1.5 m tall, plus it was full of blankets which I had to take out to put clothes in. Also the air conditioning units are very noisy and although we could open a window in the master bedroom as there was a mesh, the other bedroom window had no mesh. The kitchen could do with a good clean. I had to buy new mugs and a cheese grater as the one provided was rusty. The pool was nice although in need of some minor repair plus there was a large number of wasps. The sun umbrella in the photo seemed to be missing, all we had were two cheap (one broken) umbrellas. The loungers needed replacing as did the lounger mattresses. The most frustrating thing was that we were unable to use the pool for the last 3 days as it turned green with algae covering the bottom. We were unable to contact the property manager and in the end had to contact the owner, who did get someone round very quickly to put chemicals in. Unfortunately the pool was still green with algae on the day we left. This could be a lovely holiday cottage if some work and repairs were taken. It is a lovely area and the owner has always been courteous and responded to all our queries.
I'm surprised of your comment because when you arrive, everything seemed perfect and also in your departure.
You said that this does not prevent you to enjoy your holiday.
So I'll answer point by point.
The sofa date of 6 months. I chose qualitative, with a thick and firm mattresses for a regular and comfortable sleeping for families of 6 people.
The black leather sofa is a "Roche Bobois" synonymous of quality.
The wardrobe of the master bedroom is really sufficient for vacation, knowing that there is also a large dresser and a large closet in the 2nd bedroom with large shelves.
The air conditioner is warming up before going to sleep and when the room is refreshed, you can turn it off and sleep well.
The window to the mesh to open without the insects fall into the room.
The DVD player is built into the TV in the 2nd bedroom and lots of DVDs in English and French are available.
In the kitchen there are cupboards with updated dishes for 8 people, you just have to look in all the cupboards (cups, mugs and bowls really enough).
There are plenty of utensils and the grater had been replaced, it's just the old that has not been discarded.
Yes, the pictures of the stay is not updated because all furniture in the DRC are new, beautiful white assortment (February 2016) and I have not changed pictures of the advertisement.
Of the pool, the water tour at the end of your stay really due to non-rigorous use of your hand. Of land was found to pool bottom ... We must rinse his feet before swimming ...
We reacted quickly to intervene and treat water.
It is true that 98% of our guests are very satisfied with their stay, and that's what counts. People keep coming back and we send their friends.
charming cottage, concenient location
It is well equipped, very clean cottage at absolutely gorgeous country side of Dordogne. All main attractions, grocery stores, restaurants are 15-30 min drive. The cottage is exactly as it is shown on photos, well stocked kitchen, great pool and spacious terrace for outside dining. I have no reservations to recommend it to anybody who is looking for low-key, relaxing holidays in a beautiful part of France.
A great stay
We have just returned from enjoying a great stay in the Cottage at Coux et Bigaroque.
The accommodation was just as it was described on the website – full of character, with a beautiful living and dining area, and a lovely, spacious, private garden, with a pool for splashing about in.
The living room is well-stocked with everything you need for a good holiday; books, DVD’s, games (indoor and outdoor), a well-stocked kitchen and a space for outside dining.
It is set on the outskirts of a village, where you can pick up groceries etc but we enjoyed going to markets to pick up fresh produce; St Cyprien on Sunday morning was my favourite local market, and Sarlat - the biggest and probably the best - was about 15 minutes away.
This was the first time I had used this website, and dealt directly with owners to book a holiday, but Elizabeth et Ralf made it very easy – they responded promptly to my initial booking enquiries, and email correspondence, and provided helpful advice on the best route to take from the airport
The property was well-located for visiting all the main sites and activities in the Dordogne and Vezere valleys. This was our first visit to the Dordogne and we loved it all, but in particular Sarlat, Roque Gagaec, Domme, Monpazier, St Cyprien, Les Eyzies, Font du Gaume and Lascaux caves, Beynac, the Chateux de Castelnaud, and slightly further away Rocamadour.
I’d definitely recommend this accommodation (and the Dordogne) for a great holiday!
A stone cottage in a pretty hilltop garden, with views over open countryside, situated to 20 km of Sarlat, right in the heart of black Périgord. In only 1 km of fitted out ranges and watched (in season) by the Dordogne. The airport of Bordeaux is at 180 km, the station of Le Buisson in 5 km, the highway to Bergerac is at 45 km, the village and its businesses are at 3 km and we have a magnificent golf 18 holes to Siorac in 5 minutes. There are numerous riding schools for ballads in forest, aquatic parks and of leisure activities, tennis courts, the national museum of the prehistory, numerous markets and the places of interest :caves of Lascaux, castles (Joséphine Backer), numerous 'villages from France' classified the nicest, La Roque Gageac unless 25 kms. Nice ideal place for romantic vacation or in family.
