About Mike and Mary Hayward
We had been coming to Duck for almost two decades to vacation. Each time we were here we would fantasize about owning a little something of this wonderful island to enjoy whenever we could. Finally, we took the plunge and now own Dune Nest, WaveHi! and Dolphin Dawn (all in the same lovely Colony by the Sea). Dune Nest is just the right size and is our little place to escape to when the pressures of real life get to us. We hope you too will find that peace of mind and sense of rejuvenation that we get each time we come back to Duck. We look forward to sharing it with you! We hope you will select Dune Nest as your vacation rental and help us with providing great reviews to share with future vacationers.

Why Mike and Mary Hayward chose Duck
Dune Nest is located right on the ocean on one of the most beautiful east coast beaches in the U.S. It has the best view for year round beach front enjoyment! Spectacular sunrises and moonrises greet you daily! We have worked hard to provide a comfortable place to relax with many details we enjoy for our own comfort and wind down time. The town of Duck is a very walkable, quaint coastal village with super friendly folk and wonderful shopping, dining and many fun things to do. You can rent kayaks, canoes, bikes, tandem bikes, etc., to enjoy the many water activities Duck has to offer. Take yoga classes on the Duck green in the summer or in the winter practice yoga at Village Yoga. We love it here and come all the time.
What makes this Condo unique
All year round our favorite thing about Dune Nest is the oceanfront location and view. When you step out on the deck the sight and sound of the waves is the most magical thing in the world. Lounging on the deck we enjoy watching the sunrise, seeing the dolphins play and pelicans fly by while sipping our coffee. Evenings bring the colors of the sunset across the eastern Atlantic sky and moon rises that are spectacular. It's a great backdrop for a glass of wine to wind down from a day of total relaxation. Perfect. Fall and winter is also a spectacular time in the Outer Banks. Less visitors mean the pace is slower, quieter and often you can go for long walks on the beach without seeing anyone else. The weather is beautiful and cool with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the heat of the summer still radiating in the ocean and pool. We swam in the Atlantic in mid-October last year and it was great! In addition fishing is great with piers and surf offering you many opportunities to bring home dinner to cook up in Dune Nest's fully fitted kitchen. Don't forget if you are a golfer, there are many courses nearby and you don't even have to have a tee time -- most of the time! For us shoppers, its those 'end of the season' sales that keep me excited and of course all of these activities help you work up an appetite for the many good restaurants that Duck and the nearby towns have open. No reservations needed! As the weather changes it never ceases to amaze us how there are so many more shells on the beach in the fall and winter. You will see evidence of our finds in Dune Nest! We look forward to seeing you anytime of the year!

We only stayed 3 nights, but it was everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. Thanks so much to the owners for bending over backwards to help us with extenuating circumstances.
Great location and view
The unit is will stocked and has an amazing of the ocean (but not the beach). We loved the pathway to the beach and although it was early March and we couldn't make use of everything there the facilities are extensive. The only downside were the uncomfortable bed and sofa which is why we didn't give it 5 stars.
We are delighted you loved our well stocked gem and yes, that view of the ocean is amazing! It is so close! We'll take a look at the bed and sofa bed comfort and adjust. Thanks for the heads up. See you next time!
Winter Get Away
Nice property in Duck , which we found is the place to walk, shop and eat. Ocean view was fantastic!
I would give this a 5 and be back every weekend if it weren't for the mattress
We really loved this property and given it was just the two of us, we felt like it was just the right size. The view was amazing, the condo felt updated and cozy, the location is right in the middle of town, it was super quiet (we only saw one other car in the entire complex). All in all, it was truly wonderful!
The only tiny issue, which I think is more specific to folks with back issues... I REALLY struggled with the mattress in the master bedroom. I tossed and turned most of the night day 2 so because of that I am torn on if we will be able to return, which really bums me out since I loved everything about it otherwise.
Loved the place!
The best part were the sunrises and proximity to the beach. Very quiet. We celebrated the New Year here. Loved the condo. The only delta is the lack of storage for clothes... a dresser would be great.
Our condo is located in the much sought after area of Duck, Outer Banks North Carolina. The village of Duck is quaint, beautiful and welcoming with wonderful local unique shops, cozy cafes, grocery stores, delicious restaurants and water sports entertainment. Bike and walker friendly, Duck also has a unique sound side coastal boardwalk that provides great bird watching over the Sound and beautiful sunset vistas, dining, shopping, and dog-walking. Kayakers float by adding to the scenery. Great for families and couples who wish to walk around Duck after a fantastic day on the beach. Don't forget yoga on the Duck Green in the summer season and in the winter yoga at Duck's Village Yoga studio.
For car trips and sight seeing during rainy days or in the Fall and Winter, you are spoiled for choices: lighthouses, NC aquarium in Manteo, Jeannette's pier, shopping, great eating, and a must visit to Jockey's Ridge, the east coast's largest sand dune and site of the Wright brothers first flight! Visit the Wright Brothers national monument and museum nearby and learn about our country's aviation history and first flight. Head north to Corolla for tours to visit the wild banker ponies, protected and wild. Go south for some outlet shopping at Milepost 16 or further south to visit Manteo or coastal light houses. So much to do!
