Overview

About the property

3-star 3-room holiday cottage: kitchen and 2 bathrooms/toilets

The holiday cottage received 3 stars (by an independent certification organisation). The holiday cottage is part of a big house with lots of space both indoors and outdoors: there are 2.5 acres of surrounding grounds, including some flat areas, many sloping areas, and a forest for hiking 100 m away. You can go hiking directly from the house without using your car. A topoguide of local hiking paths is provided for free. The rest of the house is reserved for owners but is not used during the high season. All modern conveniences and quietness are guaranteed. You can either rent 2 rooms (only during the low season) or 3 rooms and an extra room (only upon special request). The indicated rate applies for 4 people/3 rooms. Add €50 per extra person. Babies and children are welcome: a changing table, high chair, small baby bouncer and bath, and many toys and games are at your disposal. The house is bioclimatic, environment-friendly, and ecotourism-approved by the Regional Nature Park. So there is no need of air-conditioning. We put emphasis on the environment and its conservation with a solar water heater, “green” electricity, organic cleaning products and toiletries, etc. The house is located in the heart of the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Nature Park at the edge of a very nice small village. There, you can enjoy the multiple touristic jewels of the Ardèche and the many events during high season. The small village is located in the middle of the countryside, among low mountains. The Saint-Michel castle is located 2 km away from the village centre. The village centre (150 m from the house) has a very nice minimarket/bar, which is also open on Sunday. During the high season, inhabitants and summer holidaymakers (boules provided) play “pétanque” (bocce ball) every day. A communal tennis court sits 50 m from the house. In the holiday cottage, I provide you with a very complete welcome booklet, many guides, and touristic documentation for giving you the opportunity to start your holidays without having to go to the Tourist Office.

About Mireille Bernex

Now retired, I used to be a teacher for BTS students. I took advantage of my retirement to complete the surface of my house, which is not finished yet, and to turn it into a comfortable and welcoming holiday cottage.

Mireille Bernex purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Mireille Bernex chose Saint-Michel-de-Boulogne

I finished the holiday cottage part of the house in April 2014. I am the one who designed this house. I wanted it to be ecological: no negative impact on the environment. I built it for myself because I wanted to live in a very beautiful place on one hand and in a house that is healthy for me and for the environment on the other hand. I found this beautiful place in the Ardèche, in Saint-Michel-de-Boulogne: a wonderful sloping ground (unobstructed views) in a tiny village that is extremely welcoming. For personal reasons, I only live in the private part of the house in autumn and winter and exceptionally in spring and summer. Guests are alone, and I will always our presence in case anybody would like to rent the house for a period that we are also staying in it.

What makes this cottage unique

According to me and the holidaymakers who stayed here, the assets of the house are: the peace, the wonderful views, the indoors and outdoors space, the healthy character of the whole house and its products, the beautiful, easy, or challenging hikes you can start directly from the house, the quality and quantity of fittings, the very nice village, and my jam, of which I offer a jar upon each arrival.

Inoubliable

  • 5 of 5

I do accept holiday vouchers. To get to the holiday cottage: if you come from Aubenas, follow in the direction of Privas and turn left after Vesseaux and the hamlet of Chauliac, towards Saint-Michel-de-Boulogne. If you come from Privas, follow in the direction of Aubenas, pass the small Col de l’Escrinet (around 800 m in altitude), take the second street on the right towards Saint-Michel-de-Boulogne, cross the village (pass the minimarket/bar and the church) and take the small sloping access path just after the sign indicating you are leaving the village, on your left-hand side.

Activities (a few examples):

Hiking/walking on site and communal tennis court to book (very cheap) at the minimarket/bar. Feel free to do your food shopping on site at the minimarket: the owners are very nice and helpful and prices are sometimes lower than in other places. There is a local bar in the nearby village: “L’Arbre à Pain” (very cheap and excellent local dishes). Do not hesitate to ask the grocer for good deals, addresses, and interesting places when the house owner is absent. The Ardèche region has so many things to offer that it is impossible to state them here. Do not miss the local pork products (charcuterie) as well as the sweet chestnut specialties (there are 2 popular high-quality producers in Aubenas and the very famous Clément Faugier in Privas), the local jams and nougat, the Picodon (goat’s cheese), etc. There is a repertory-type cinema and a general public cinema in Aubenas. There are many events at the village and in the surroundings. In the village: electronic music festival at the village’s medieval castle (first weekend of August). In the neighbouring villages: sweet chestnut festival, village feasts, bread festival, etc. Do not miss either the Caverne du Pont d'Arc which is an extraordinary replica of the Chauvet Cave.
