The 'Round' House is a beautiful private home situated on 180 feet of Caribbean beachfront with mountain views of the Honduran mainland and Oyster Lagoon (aka Lower Lagoon). The dock access is in Oyster Lagoon and is just behind the house. The beach gently slopes into Utila Bay, with coral reef the full length of the beach and an 80 foot drop off less than 100 yards from the house, providing a beautiful area to swim, snorkel, and shore dive. This fully equipped home with two bedrooms is perfect for two couples or a family.
The house features a wrap around covered deck, extending 8 feet on the bay side, perfect for watching the sunset over the lagoon and sunrise over Utila bay. It also affords views of the reef and its 'creatures', mountain range of the mainland, and a beautiful view of Utila town across the bay. The deck has a mahogany porch swing, table, chairs and hammocks. The lagoon side dock is perfect for watching the bird and animal life on the lagoon or launching a kayak or being picked up for a charter boat ride.
The air conditioned bedrooms are spacious. The master bedroom contains a king size bed or opionally 2 twin beds, plus a full-size bed, sitting area, walk-in closet, and private bathroom. The second bedroom contains a double closet and includes two twin beds or a king size bed. Both bathrooms include two sink vanities and full bathtubs with shower facilities. With windows circling the house it is airy and light.
There are bay views from every room except the master bedroom, which looks over the lagoon and its surrounding mangroves. The house is furnished throughout with comfortable rattan furniture and has a large modern kitchen, dining area and living room.
Below the house is a large 'bodega' which houses the laundry facilities (washer and dryer), two large water tanks and the hot water heater. Water is supplied by the municipal well and also a private well for backup purposes.
The landscaped grounds, on the sandy beach, are full of local flowering shrubs, shade trees, and palm trees; plus an ever green privacy hedge. The grounds are maintained by Angel, our English speaking home caretaker and wonderful friend. Angel helped build the house and has been with us ever since.
The 'Round' House is located on approximately one half acre on a peninsula in Blue Bayou. It is just a five minute bike ride or 15 minute walk from the west end of Utila town and the public beach area. You will be just far enough out of town to provide privacy and solitude, but just a mile away is our charming town with restaurants, bars, dive shops, stores, internet/phone services, grocery stores, and the friendliest local population you will find in the entire Caribbean!
The house is cleaned weekly with linen changes. Angel cares for the property and is onsite 3 days a week. The other 3 days he is right next door. He is extremely friendly and will help you in any way he can. He will ensure you have butane for cooking, your drinking water delivered, and let you know where you can get anything else you want or are in need of.
We also have kayaks for 5. One double, and three singles.
Please contact Sue with any questions. I am the owner, live on the island year round, and am happy to assist you. Once you reach Utila, Angel will meet you and help you get to the house. You also have our cell phone numbers and prepaid cell phone to contact us during your stay.

I fell in love with Utila the moment I landed. Moved here in 1994 and never left! I have taught school and run serveral business in town. Now I am semi-retired and enjoy managing my rental homes and helping others plan their adventures in Utila.
The Owner purchased this house in 1998
My family built this home in 1998. I have enjoyed living on the beach for many years, but also wanted a home in the country side. Now I enjoy the best of both worlds while sharing the beachfront 'Round House' experience with others who wish to vist Utila.
We stayed with Sue (owner) 4 years ago in a house across the street. This time we decided we'd like to try her ocean front home. The place is fantastic. Far enough from town to be out of the hustle/bustle, but a quick golf cart ride to get there. The public beach is right up the road, and right down the road is a little pier bar with great snorkeling. Easy ladder access there and a nice sun deck.
The house itself is very spacious, the kitchen well outfitted. We cook a lot and it had everything we needed. Two super large bathrooms and two large bedrooms, each with GREAT a/c. One bedroom even has a king and a queen bed in it, and it still feels huge.
Views can't be beat. Looking out over the water, you can see the mountains of the mainland. There are butterflies and humming birds in the bushes. The GIGANTIC wrap around deck has plenty of chairs and a couple of hammocks to enjoy the breeze and the ocean which is literally a few feet from the house. There is a washer and dryer in the room under the house, and a nice Weber gas grill as well.
The owner is VERY helpful, and a delightful person. Her "handyman" Angel is also awesome and will help you with anything and is available any time. He'll pick you up at the airport, or he will deliver your rental golf cart there, and meet you, so you can follow him to the house. He is even happy to wait with you if you want to grab groceries on your way to your island paradise home. Once there, if you have any questions or problems (we couldn't figure out how to light the oven), just use the supplied cell phone to give him a call.
Utila is not for everyone. There are no Hiltons or Marriotts, no 5 star lodgings or restaurants. But you WILL find delicious inexpensive food in numerous funky places. Do not come here if you want the upscale life. DO come here if you want very friendly people, snorkeling right from the beach, inexpensive diving and a sense that, in some places at least, all is right with the world. Especially at the wonderful Round House at Blue Lagoon. Thanks for your hospitality Sue! We love it here. We will be back again for sure.
The round house on Utila is the perfect spot. There is so much privacy. Many places to chill on the property . Our favorite spot is the deck. So beautiful. Can't say enough about the view. The closeness to the water is amazing. The reef out front is really nice. We also walked down to the public beach everyday. No need to book "tours" . We did not rent a golf cart just took taxis to town everyday. Great food in town. We also love coral beach village via water taxi, just down the road. The Home and grounds are spotless. I was so impressed. Book this house. Everything you need!!! I can't wait to return to the Round house!!!!!!! Caretaker takes care of you!!!!
We just spent 7 days at The Round House in Utila with another couple. It was absolutely awesome! Best view on the island right from the porch! Very quiet and peaceful. The owner Susan and care taker Angel did a great job arranging for our every need. Would definately recommend staying at the Round House!
We stayed at the Round House while diving in Utila. It was our first visit to Utila and won't be the last. But we'll schedule another visit ONLY if we can book the Round House! It is perfect for two couples--my husband and myself and our son and daughter-in-law. The view from the deck allows watching a local chain moray, hermit crab in a conch shell, and at least two medium sized iguanas. Located well at the end of the beach, away from all the noise, it is in primarily a residential area. Coral View Dive Shop is a two minute walk--glad we chose them. The main part of town is a mile away, so we rented bikes from Angel ($3 per day per bike). Quite an experience weaving through the tuc tucs and scooters and pedestrians and other bikes. We loved it! Bring a small flashlight for the return trip since there are no lights on the last stretch of the beach--just a brilliant Milky Way in the night sky. Lots of inexpensive but excellent dining options in town. We had cereal for breakfast, cheese for lunch and ate out every night for under $40 for four adults. Sue (the owner) and Angel (the caretaker) kept an eye on everything to make sure our stay was comfortable. Electricity is expensive on the island and because we chose to run both AC units every night, we ended up needing to buy additional electricity for our last 1.5 days. The cost was only $18--very reasonable. Didn't get to use the kayaks, we were so busy.
Our stay at the Round House could not have been better. We were traveling with a 5 month old and it was so enjoyable. The owner even bought a portacrib for us to use. We made good use of the covered deck so no one was sunburned yet we got to read while looking over the ocean. Much of the time we were in the ocean since the snorkeling and fishing right out from the house was fantastic. Town was a 20-30 minute walk so eating out was easy. We also used the large, well equipped kitchen for fixing some meals. All in all, I would return tomorrow if I could.
Wow! What a beautiful peace of paradise! The roundhouse is was perfect! Gorgeous views of the mainland, the bay and the stingray swimming in front daily. The spotted eel by the shore...the lobsters and nurse shark within walking distance out front. We were 2 couples and a teenager. Perfect accommodations. Roundhouse was very clean and equipped with everything needed. Water refills when we placed the empties outside. Kayaks available when needed and a bicycle. Morning coffee on the porch and a rum punch with the sun setting...what more could anyone want. The caretaker, Angel, was very attentive to our needs. He truly is an "Angel"! I could use him at our house! We rented a golf cart through Angel to get around. $ 200 US for the week. We found this the best way to travel. You could walk to town but in the heat it would be tiring. Sue, the owner was excellent to deal with. The VRBO process was very good too. Would recommend the Roundhouse...you won't be sorry!
