About JERRY HOGAN

Thats me on the left. I have been fishing the Smith river since 1980 and two buddies and I purchased one acre of land on the Smith in 1989. In 1990 we purchased a new double wide modular unit and placed on this acre. I grew up in the Bay Area and worked 30 years for AT&T. My wife and I met in high school and were married in 1960. I took early retirement in 1991 and moved to Crescent City in 1992. My four kids are grown and we now have eight grand kids. Upon moving here I got into the fishing business, owning a tackle store in Brookings, Or. In 1998 I started guiding for Salmon and Steeelhead on the local rivers, mostly the Smith. Now I am mostly retired except for managing and booking this vacation rental. During the off season garden, travel with 32Ft trailer, fish and visit kids/grand kids.

In 2015 we sold the vacation home to two guys from out of the area that had been renting for many years and did not want to stay anywhere else during fishing season. So my two long time customers bought BMH LODGE and I still take care of all rentals for them.

JERRY HOGAN purchased this house in 1990

Why JERRY HOGAN chose North Coast California

This is not like a lot of California. We have the ocean, the giant redwoods, the cleanest and clearest river in the U.S., the Smith of course. Our county of Del Norte has only 25,000 people and no polution.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a great holiday week we had! The house was cozy and well equipped. The guys got fish and we hiked and ate a wonderful Thanksgiving meal. We saw a bunch of Salmon coming up to spawn on our hike up Mill Creek... Beautiful! Thank you so much... we will be back!

Beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the BMG lodge. It is situated on the bank of river smith. The river is literally 15 feet away from the patio of the house. Having 2 bathroom in the house helps. 5 min away from the Jedediah Smith Redwood State park and half an hour away from Crescent City. Definitely recommend this place.

Owner's Response: Its always nice to hear from our guests that they had a wonderful stay. The Smith River, Redwoods and ocean beaches are one of the reasons I have now lived here for 24 years. Thank you for your stay, Jerry

One week at BMH Lodge

  • 4 of 5

Upon arrival the ambient temperatures were above normal and without air conditioning it was difficult trying to get the temperatures to a comfortable sleep temperature. An additional fan in fan in the family room would have helped draw the outside air in because any breeze was non-existent. After temperatures returned to normal, the breezes picked up and the temperature in the house was maintained at a comfortable level. The scenery off the back porch was idyllic and we enjoyed watching the birds on the river. The neighborhood was very quiet and neighbors were friendly and a joy to visit with. We used the lodge as a base to ride our motorcycle on day trips visiting national, state and local parks for picnics and enjoying the scenery. Amenities were good and the internet was very good once we finally got connected with the help of their technical service. Overall the stay at the Lodge was very relaxing and enjoyable, even the one day it rained and we just "hung-out.

We are ready to move in

  • 5 of 5

We loved every minute of our stay. The neighbors were friendly, the location is beautiful, and the house was clean. We fished every day, and went to Brookings on the recomendation of the property owner to fish with Jim of Charthouse Sportfishing. I would highly recommend the experience, we were on a small 24 foot boat and had a fantastic time catching lingcod and rockfish all morning. Gasquet is amazing, we were ready to move in and it was very sad when it was time to leave. It was a great laid back stress free vacation. Exactly what we were hoping for.

Great Get-away in a Rural area

  • 4 of 5

This was our 3rd vacation to the BMH lodge on the beautiful Smith River. We had a very relaxing time watching the river wildlife. The house is large & comfortable. The décor is definitely a "hunting/fishing" theme. The WIFI works well, but no cell phone service, both of which for us were a huge plus. There are 2 TVs as well. Although we prepared our own meals in the well-stocked kitchen, we made 2 trips to Brookings & Crescent City, each within an easy 1/2 hr. drive.

Our 2 dogs also enjoyed the stay. The deck is completely enclosed for security so we didn't worry about them getting loose.

If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, try the BMH.

Great Property

  • 5 of 5

A perfect spot in a perfect location. We enjoyed every minute of our week at your property, the dogs most of all. It was a great cozy spot to come "home" to after days spent hiking and exploring the Smith. Evenings on the deck were worth it all alone. We will be back. Thanks!

Super Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Omg we had such a great time visiting and adding the area. We had all the comforts of home and sitting on the deck by the river was very peaceful. My dogs were happy that I didn't have to tie them also. Would definitely go there again. Temperature while we were there was perfect.
