5 Bedroom, 5 Bath Lodge With Shore Front Views - Pet Friendly- Sleeps 14
About Laurie Eckrod
We bought Holland Point Preserve in 2011 from a former Washington Redskin and his wife who built the house in 1990. My husband is a avid hunter and fisherman and wanted land that he could hunt and fish but also allow the non-hunters in the family to enjoy the Eastern Shore. We also wanted a property that was close to our home in Virginia. Being only 2 hours from DC, this property had everything we wanted and more.
Laurie Eckrod purchased this Lodge in 2011
Why Laurie Eckrod chose Taylors Island
We bought this property after looking at many others because HPP has everything. The house was sold completely furnished so all we had to do was bring some groceries and clothes and we were set. The spectacular sunrises, that we can view from the Master Bedroom, the sound of wildlife serenading us to sleep and the abundance of privacy were also factors in our decision to purchase 'this' property. We couldn't have been more happier in our choice.
What makes this Lodge unique
Because the house sits at the end of Hooper's Neck road on 263 acres, there is nothing that can disturb you. We have endless amounts of land that can be explored, wonderful water activities to enjoy or you can just curl up around a roaring fire and hang with friends and family. Everything that is needed to 'stay put' is in the house or can be found within a few miles.

Better than the pictures..Great for extended or multiple families. Wish the property was more conducive for swimming, but we managed! Be prepared to entertain yourselves as there isn't much in the area.
Remote.... But Not Remote!
Simply beautiful inside and out. Will certainly re-visit next time for an outing.
Home was easily entered via code and key.
Amazing water view across a long and wide expanse of green grass. Noticed no bugs or mosquitos, but entry way a few wasps and dragon flies hiding in the bushes. Rooms are very clean, spacious enough for a group of 13 of all ages. And of course the highlight was the spiral staircase to the tower.
Kitchen more than fully loaded with appliances, dishes and glassware.
All was perfect for our mini reunion and a 16 year olds birthday at the huge round table.
We had fun and so would anyone else!
Thank you for your kind words about the house and property. We are so happy you enjoyed it and welcomed any feedback you had to offer. Please come back soon and we will try to keep those pesky wasps away! All the best to your family.
Taylors Island July 2019
My family, 8 adults, 5 children and a dog thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Taylors Island. Because of the remoteness of the property we had great family time. One thing that I think was not emphasized enough was the water access. The water was warm, shallow enough for he little ones, but deep enough for the kayaks and our canoe. It made for a very safe experience and the highlight of our time there.
The house itself was large enough, was nice the way the bedrooms were in separate wings, made it a little quieter for sleeping. Hot water on one side of the house was not consistent, but that will be looked into.
The owners were very easy to work with and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review. We will make sure to emphasize that the water is by far one of the best features of our property. We will also look into the hot water issue on the one wing of the house immediately. Thank you again for being awesome guests at Holland Point. Come back soon.
Stunning house, huge property, amazing vacation
We're a group of 12 adults who have stayed at a lot of rentals together, and Holland Point blew us away. Even the terrific pictures on this site can't do justice to how incredible the space is. The house is truly massive, with a beautiful wooden construction that has been well maintained. It's got a huge kitchen, a perfect dining room table with a lazy susan, extremely comfortable living room. We spent a ton of time in the crow's nest, 40-50 feet above the main floor. It gets hot in there during the summer daytimes, which made it into a good sauna during the day, but was perfectly pleasant after the sun went down.
The bedrooms are all in the two wings of the house and are very well air-conditioned. They're also pretty well insulated sound-wise -- we could stay up late having loud conversations without bothering the people sleeping at all. The beds all came nicely made with individual towels and washcloths. The master suite is especially gorgeous but you really can't go wrong with any of the bedrooms.
The views from the house are terrific, as is the property itself. We hiked along the mowed paths pretty far back into the property and still didn't hit the end of it. It's pretty hot and buggy in the summer, so we spent the majority of the time in the water. There's a beautiful dock which lights up at night and encircles a beachy cove -- great for floating on tubes. We also made use of the two kayaks, which was a lovely touch.
Laurie was terrific at communicating with us throughout the whole process. We'd absolutely stay here again! And you should too!
Wow what an awesome review. You took everything that we love about the place and wrote it down so eloquently. Thank you so much and we are so happy you enjoyed your stay. Thank you also for the small “to do list”. We love improving the house to make everyone’s stay more pleasant. Please come back soon!!! All the best, Laurie
This is our third stay and it was like coming home. Our party of 11 (7 adults, 4 teens) and 1 dog thoroughly enjoyed playing on the lawns, skipping rocks on the water, and lounging in the very comfortable house. The fully stocked kitchen with double-oven made Thanksgiving dinner prep easy and the dual dishwashers made clean up a breeze. Holland Point Preserve is big enough for everyone to find a place to sit and enjoy a book, websurfing, puzzle, board game, meal and more. We look forward to another visit!
Thank you Jan and family for coming back to Holland Point for another Thanksgiving. We are glad you had great weather, been very rainy, and that you enjoyed the time with family and friends. We also hope you enjoyed some of the slight changes and appreciate your kind words about the property. Have a wonderful rest of 2018 and see you again next year😍. All the best.
Everything you could ever want!
Loved this spot so much! It was perfect for our group of 14 people and we would definitely stay here again.
Thanks so much for your kudos about Holland Point. Come back soon and stay longer. Glad to have had you and your group!👍🏻 Laurie
Located at the end of the road in perfectly peaceful Taylor's Island. The tidal marshes of Taylor's Island have been relatively untouched by the development of small towns and villages on the nearby shores. Holland Point Preserve's 200+ acres is a classic illustration of Chesapeake Bay tidal marsh habitat, overlooking the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay, Slaughter Creek and the Little Choptank River. Holland Point lodging is a marvel of architectural beauty with wide hearth pine floors, incredible exposed beams and views from every room. Originally owned by the founder of the American Hunters and Shooters Association, Holland Point affords those vacationers enamored with the outdoors immediate access to the Blackwater Refuge, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, oyster picking and swimming off of the sandy shores are right out your screened porch. The water depth at the private dock is 3' or less at low tide so kayaks, canoes and jetskis are your best bet. Enjoy the screen porch as well as the open floor plan. In the off seasons a roaring wood fire in the great room, dinner roasting in the kitchen and a good book are all you need for a complete day. It’s the perfect place to host your friends, family, or corporate retreats. Holland Point Preserve is a 'stay put and enjoy' type of vacation. Holland Point is designed to assist guests in forgetting there is another world of crowded beaches, boardwalks and hotels. For once, treat yourself to a vacation that you don't need a vacation from.
